Lukaku - Play or Loan?

Featured Replies

I see the papers are saying (again) "play me or loan me"

He isnt quoted as saying something so black and white, but if he is implying that first he needs to work on his first touch? It resembles a drunk Sunday league player at the best of times.

Bags of potential, but seems very impatient.

That is all.

Blimey give the kid a break !

He won't be 20 until the end of the season !!

He has had to cope with all the 'New Drogba' hype all his career so far, one wonders what the

'Real Drogba' was like at the tender age of 19.

He needs to play for a team that plays 4-3-3 or 4-4-2 at the moment, 4-2-3-1 is a difficult

system for any top striker to play let alone someone with little experience.

He needs to learn how to find space and 'come to meet the ball'

Holding the ball and using his strength will come in time.

In the USA the Milan game showed his rawness, he seemed static at times, but

against Seatlle he more than showed his potential.

I would like to see him on loan in the Premiership, at QPR or Fulham.

A stones throw from home, so our coaches can easily monitor his development.

Again not because I'm a Belgian.

But did Lukaku get time to proof himself?

Put any other striker in place and they all got problems to score, because you have to get chances,if you dont reach the striker the striker can't score.

I'm not saying that he is our number 1 striker, but I think if we put him in on a regular base (we have enough games) there is a chance that we have a real star in the second round of the season!

We just need some time to adjust the team ,so with the players we have it can be very fine for a striker in the future. And once that happens,I think even torres could be back on track just like we can burst Lukaku, and with sturridge behind the hand I think we have a good trio to rotate and hopefully with torres as the first striker this year.

I just think we need one more player that is capable to play a role as a real second striker, and hulk should be very nice for this.for periods or games when it is necessary.

Throw him out on loan then, but it will be hard to find a proper team that would play him.

Dont be so ridiculous, plenty of "proper" teams will want him. Jesus, players arent given very long now to prove themselves.

If Lukaku goes to Fulham or any other team on loan we really need to buy an backup. I'd be happy if he'd stay but it is not my call is it.

I agree with dkw on the proving issue. Romeu for example was like an old Chelsea player from minute one. You need to show something right from the first minutes or you don't play again for awhile. In Chelsea and other top teams it is as cruel as that.

He needs a loan for sure, he isnt up to scratch right now for us. He still has lots to learn, lucky for him he already has the body and age is on his side so he could become a decent footballer but he still needs a bit of work.

He's just a boy. He needs some time in the starting 11. Time he won't get this year for chelsea. A loan to Fulham will be great for him. Lukakau has a lot of potential. He'll come back next year as a star.

Not as pessimistic as most about his development, but getting a lot of game time this year will be very beneficial to his development. If Fulham is going to give that to him, awesome, if not, let's keep looking. I'd rather he start every game in the Championship than get 8 games all season in the Premier League.

Wasn't there interest from Werder Bremen? They don't seem to have any well known strikers bar pizarro whos now 33. Could have been a good thing for him and De Bruyne if he was a starter..

By loaning him to an English club he will eventually fit into one of the home grown category thingys.

Give the lad a chance, he's only young and he's not been given the opportunities his price-tag suggests he should have.

Let's not forget, Lampsy never really looked like he'd ever be a consitent 20 goal a season midfielder when he first arrived at the Bridge!!!

Lukaku just has to work hard to become the player his potential suggests, he has to continue to develop and adapt whether that be at Chelsea or away on loan, and hopefully it pays off and he comes good as a first-team regular at Chelsea in time.

No Pizzaro, he went to Bayern.

Remember Barcelona's "new Messi" Bojan Krkic who destroyed everything as a 20-year old?

Where's he polishing boots now?

Bar Wayne Rooney, I can't think of a single striker in the last decade who showed anything more than raw promise at 20 that went on to be successful.

Some of the Argentinians, Aguero and Tevez, were pretty well regarded around 20 and have gotten better. I do agree that it sometimes easier to name former "the next big thing" than it is to name actual successful strikers.

I see your point, but Aguero and Tevez were playing at much smaller clubs with much less potential- and neither were top scorers nor marked as natural goalscorers, something that changed in their mid-20s.

The only other example I can think of is Alexandre Pato, but his career has been devastated by injury.

Does Torres count? He was captain of Atletico Madrid at about 19 and he was scoring goals for fun.

Romelu is yet another victim of the ridiculous expectations of the fans. Line up behind McEachran and Kakuta son.

I don't think the expectations are ridiculous. We have the right to be excited about these young players and hope they are the next Drogba or Messi. I think most of us know it is 1/1000 from these brilliant prospects that will get to a super star level.
