Except this isn't football manager mate, Courtois is probably in the top 3 goalkeepers in the world, why would he want to waste a season on the bench at Chelsea when he could walk into Real Madrid or Barcelona's starting line-up?

Because he is under contract so he will do whatever the f**k we want him to do!

I'm sure if Jose said that to him he will happily sit on the bench for most of the season....

Courtois is known to command to his box well. You don't win keeper of the season ahead of Lopez, Valdes, etc on saves alone.

Known or have you seen it? I don't feel Valdes commands brilliantly, can't comment on Lopez.

Jose doesn't have to say anything to him although he obviously will. He is a contracted chelsea player until 2016. By the end of that contract if we do things the way I think we should then he would of played a full season as our number one keeper. Quite frankly if he wants to leave after that then there isn't much we could of done about it

Bottom line is it's very unlikely he will want to play second fiddle to Cech, even for a season. It's one or the other really and for me I'd have Courtois, I understand loyalty but the glaring mistakes Cech has made this season can't be ignored and neither can the fact that they are becoming more common every season. If Cech is happy with being on the bench (which I doubt because he's still a top10 'keeper) then I'd love for him to be our number two, otherwise he'll have to go..

Jose will explain to him that it's all part of the bedding in process. He will get his fair share of games and I'm sure if cech isn't performing then jose won't be afraid to stick courtois in permanently. Also next year isn't a world cup or euro year so courtois won't have to worry about that.

No need to panic

Both. He's fine with coming out and collecting crosses, relieving pressure from defenders, etc, he always has been. If I was to criticise him in any way it would be that he can switch off during long periods where he has nothing to do and that itself is me being really picky because overall he's superb.

Just can't see it happening mate. Also, goalkeeping isn't a position you can really rotate in the league very well.

We will see. All speculation at the moment. Who knows jose might agree with you and stick him in from the start next year. I wouldn't be against that at all but I think my way we get the best out of both. Courtois being on the bench might even push cech into performing better knowing there is a world class youngster on the bench ready to step into his shoes

I think Valencia last season disproved this theory. It can be done, it's just not common because most teams only have 1 good keeper.

Do you think it will happen though? Can you see either 'keeper wanting to play only half of the time?

Well this wouldn't be the first time we have had two very good keepers. I felt a little bad for Carlo when he had to play second fiddle and I will probably feel worse if a club legend like Cech has to do the same.

Edit: However, Courtois can only improve really and Cech will slowly decline. We will probably regret selling Courtois anyway, so it is imo more sensible decision to keep him and eventually promote him to the first team with Cech playing a part in the Fa Cup, similar to the way Barcelona rotate Valdes and Pinto.

Basically what Eggy said. They aren't little kids who will throw tantrums and we should stop acting like they are, they are professionals. They will do whatever is in the clubs best interest, even if it means sharing game time.

This all just screams football manager fantasy to me. No club, not even Barca or Real, have two world class goalkeepers.

I would argue Real have two world class goalkeepers.

Casillas and Lopez.

Interesting. Because if Lukaku had done what was in the club's best interest he would have been happy sitting on the bench, as we could have really used him as an impact player. His decision showed no consideration for the club's interest (and that's probably what irks Jose the most).

Most players these days just care about game time.

Lukaku being out on loan, developing and taking points off teams around us is in the club's best interest. If we wanted to keep him, we would have done so.

It's pretty much been confirmed that Jose wanted to keep him at the club but couldn't give him what he wanted I.e garanteed starting place

And if we wanted that we would have sent Ba off on loan and brought Lukaku into the team. In the end we ended up with a situation that benefits both parties, even though it doesn't seem that way at the moment.

One has won nearly every trophy on the planet and the other has the potential to be very good. Give the lad the option to come home and prove himself in the prem as is the Chelsea way. I think though that he already believes he has nothing to prove. And thats where negotiations will break down. Cech doesnt deserve to just be cast aside, although i do believe a bit of healthy competition never hurt anyone.

Helping us gain points is more important than helping someone else take points off our rivals, which they may well have done anyway. No, we wanted to keep him, we didn't.
