I just fear loosing Courtois, surely both Real and Barca would be sniffing around - Cech is a legend and could easily produce top class performances for another 5 years considering how keepers age but at the same time a 21 year old keeper already touted as one of the best around. I don't watch a lot of La Liga but surely if we let him slip through our fingers after the seasons he has had at Madrid it would be a mistake in the long run.

I don't know, this is one of the hardest decisions we would have to make

Maybe a swap deal with Costa?  We need to bring him back next year if we want to keep him, he's been out on loan for 3 years now, don't think he has much connections with us anymore, apart from on paper.

Costa and the 20M is when Chelsea should start entertaining any offer for Courtois. I think he comes next year as a starter ir he never comes at all. Love Cech and think he certainly has at least 4 years still un him as a top keeper but as previously stated by someone else, the youth factor should take precedence. He is one of the worlds best and in his early 20's. Give him a ten year deal with a guarantee to start.

sell courtois, keep cech; end up with money and one of the best gks in the world = win.

keep both cech and coirtois; have 2 of the best gks in the world = win.

every scenario is a win for chelsea. that's a lovely place to be.

If Cech wants to stay (likely), and Courtois rejects a future loan deal (likely) , then either they compete for #1 spot, or we sell Courtois.

Cech is premier league proven for a decade, Courtois is not. He's done well in Spain, Spain is not England.

Until Cech goes drastically downhill (which may not happen for years yet), Courtois wont be near our team.

Having seen more spanish football than usual this season and listened to the way people within the game talk about him I'd make Courtois our number 1 for the start of next season. If Cech doesn't demand a move then happy days you keep them both and if the kid needs some time to settle in the Cech gets more playing time.

It's hard not to be sentimental but I really get the impression that Courtois is too good to overlook.

I know a lot of people have taken to him, and making all sorts of claims about how he's the best in the world etc. I know he's done really well in Spain, but he isn't premier league proven, yet.

I just think its an unbelievably huge gamble to let Cech go, he would get into almost any team in the world for me. We'd miss him an awful lot as well.

For me he is nowhere near ready to step down in our team, and I don't think Jose will take the risk for next season. He wont want someone as reliable and dedicated as Cech leaving.

If we know one thing about Jose, its that he trusts the older established players more than young beans.

A silly term really, even more silly when applied to a goalkeeper where the variation in leagues is minimal for them.

I cant agree with that, the difference between the prem and La Liga for a keeper is immense, De Gaea himself said it took him a season to adjust. The pace is much higher, the physicality, the amount of high balls banged into the box. I would say keeper is one of the most difficult positions to adjust to.

By all accounts he was just as helpless with crosses and physical teams in La Liga as well so I wouldn't really attribute that to a change a league, more down to the type of keeper he was.

yup. he was known as being pretty poor on crosses and generally un-commanding in la liga, his reputation was of being an excellent shot-stopper first and foremost. courtois is a completely different kettle of fish, who is considered exceptional in terms of commanding his area, easily the best in la liga. he will have no problems adapting to the prem, if/when it happens.

Whats the Spurs keepers name? Anyway he said that it did him good to sit on the bench and actually watch the game close up because the premier league is like no other.

throwing Courtois straight in the team seems silly to me. Cech is already here and has broken records for his work in goal for us. If it aint broke then dont fix it.

De Gea and Gomes, both good shot stoppers who had very little else to their game. Of course they would struggle, they would struggle in any league, nothing to do with the EPL in particular, because they hadn't learned the basics, or just weren't very good at it, of commanding the box and dealing with crosses.

Courtois isn't the same.

I would hope they talk to Courtois, explain to him what he already knows that there is already a proven world class player in his position at the club. Sell him on to mid/high level team (just not Barca or Real and so on) with a promise he will be returning in 5 years, along with a buy back clause inserted into his transfer. Gives time for Cech to run out his career with us and we get a world class experienced player ready to replace him.

If Courtois isn't completely full of himself he will understand the situation, and not take it personally. If not, f**k him. Cech has earned his place and has plenty of time left. Look how long Van Der Sar kept going at the highest level.

sh*t, even supplement his wages if necessary while he's at another club. If it's legal of course. Could always do a 5 year loan term with a massive "loan fee" from the borrowing club, if that's legal of course lol

"A good shot stopper" is a pretty silly description for a goal keeper.

If they weren't all good 'shot stoppers' they wouldn't be in goal in the first place.

Why would he want to return to us in 5 years when just about every other big team in the world (Bayern probably being the only exception) would see him as an upgrade on their current GK option and would be desperate to sign him.

I think the pair of them should be given the opportunity to compete for the #1 spot next season, if Courtois is all he's cracked up to be then he'll win first choice, if not then we keep on Cech for another 7-8 years and either keep Courtois on as his understudy, or sell him on for big bucks.

That would be tough, and that is a valid point and a valid concern. But maybe supplementing his wages would help. There's always a method of persuading people. Just got to find the right way. Money often helps :)

I can't see Jose wanting to cast off Cech just because we have a very talented second option. He seems to be thouroughly loyal to his old guard. I'd imagine if Courtois wants to be a #1 he'll be sold to Atletico.

...as somebody said earlier here: it will always be a win - situation for CFC... no matter which option we'll take
