When you look at how confident we feel when Shwarzer is between the sticks it really makes you wonder why at Cechs age being a far better keeper than Mark ever was people worry he's getting too old.

 

I think he could play at the highest level for a good five more years injury and fitness permitting, would love him to finish his career here as a veteran back up keeper like Shwarzer.

I think we should bring back Courtois.

 

I think we can have another gem in Courtois if handled correctly. I think Cech is more recently having a bit more trouble with shots close to his body, and has a few  moments when coming for corners, then changes his mind, and gets stuck in no mans land.

 

We had a similar situation with Cech & Cudicini, and for me the main thing is to know when to replace ageing players, rather than being forced into a panic buy further down the line.

Cech hasn't had his best season so far, but it's premature to say he's in decline. There have been issues all over the team, especially Oct/Nov, and I think he's still a first-class keeper. Courtois has great ability and real potential, but I can see Cech being worth keeping as first choice for at least another couple of seasons. If after that time his performances continue to dip, then Courtois will be more than able to fill his shoes. But half a not great season isn't necessarily the end. When push comes to shove Cech's got the experience to be a better big-game keeper.

Courtois was phenomenal against Valencia this evening, really unlucky to concede a stoppage time equaliser.

I've seen a fair bit of him this season and I genuinely believe he's the best goalie in the world or at least very very close to Neuer.

Courtois is very theatric at times which i absolutely detest in a keeper but then again if he can hold onto a ball he will instead of pushing it out.

 

Im not going to pretend to watch loads of athleticos games so im guessing people on here will have a much better and valid opinion than me

Courtois is fantastic and getting better all the time. These days he is even comfortable enough to scold the defenders if they make a mistake.

 

The club has an extremely tough decision ahead. My guess is they go with Cech and let Courtois go.

In my opinion Cech is still very good for us now, although some may point out that his performances have been on the decline lately we still cannot take away from him how good of a goalkeeper he is. However, we must also look to the future of the team, which is Courtois. This being said it means that we cannot let him leave the club and have to eventually get to the point where we make a stand and start to incorporate him into the first team setup. He is the future of the club and the transition must eventually be made.

If theatric means 'not clumsy' it's all fine by me :-)

He was a volleyball player when he was younger, probably the reason for his elegance...

Hazard learnt to dive and not get hurt in judo, maybe we'll have to send our strikers on a course basketball or some other sport where you score a lot...

He will come back, I believe Cech will hang around if it means he won't be playing regular football. He has too much love for the club, he doesn't have to prove himself week in week out to keep his spot in the national team.

Can't even understand why people would be happy to let Curtois go to keep Cech. Chelsea must do their damned hardest to keep him. After the world cup he either needs to be loaned to a premier league club or kept here to fight Cech for a place.

Not really, as mentioned, not everyone in here watches Athletico so its quite natural to post vids of Courtis doing well your you and everyone else who doesnt watch him play.

true, I wouldnt call that youtube video an 'amazing save'. For one he saw it a mile away, so had plenty of time to move... it looked like it was going wide anyway and he dived like Bruce Willis in a Die Hard film :D :D :D

Mourinho will decide who will play next season.  We've seen how ruthless he is when choosing his players and all the talk of a future project make me believe he will choose Courtois.  He spoke massively of the kid when at Madrid so it will all depend on whether Thibault will accept another loan spell, but from what I can remember he did say this was the last time and that he didn't want to be a backup keeper.

On the other hand Jose does seem to be attached to the old players from his first time in charge.  My personnel opinion is that we should go with Courtois, Cech's been amazing but like when we replaced Cudicini (which I was mad about at the time) we need to choose whats best for the club and its future, but I'm think we've got the right man to make that choice.

So Cech leaves (lets face it why would he stay with us? He can be a number 1 in 99.9% of clubs in the whole world) so who do we have as our number two goalie?

I agree. Look what he did with Casillas last season. Reputation doesn't count for much as far as he is concerned. If Courtois joins us for preseason, there will be a shootout and the best keeper will play. In my opinion that will turn out to be Courtois but Cech is still a top keeper. It's a good situation for the club - the best keeper stays and they get a good pile of cash for whoever leaves.

I dont think Courtois will want to come back unless he is given certain promises about game time.

I can't speak for others, but it's Courtois for me. Incredible talent.
