We need to think long term here. Courtois is 21, could potentially be world class for the next 15 years.

Then how come buffon makes your list? He is 5 years older than Cech.

Just home from work and seen some of the presser from today on SSN.

Jose: "I cannot speak about Diego because he is not my player. I can speak about Courtois because he is my player".

Reporter: "Ok. Can you see Courtois staying at Atletico Madrid"?

Jose: "No".

God I love it when he teases them with a hint of a detailed answer then slaps them down with a one word blunt response.

I don't see how me thinking Buffon is one of the best in the world relates to Chelsea's future keeper situation? Just because Buffon is good, doesn't mean Cech will last that long.

Shepherds pie with a side of chips... next

In all seriousness, I have been a fan of the way Juventus play under Conte so I have seen a decent amount of Buffon (and it's not a if he's only just come onto the scene, he's been up there with the best for over 15 years). Similarly I have taken an interest in Courtois since loaning him out to Atletico and he is unbelievably good and my point is that it would be stupid to sell him.

So maybe its chec your not watching... or maybe you buy in to the media hype... I don't know.

But i'm telling you that if you watch every single game from all of them this season, All will make mistakes but chec will claim more crosses then both, and I honeslty believe chec will make more match winning saves then the other two.

Now that could be down to the league they play in but I honestly still consider chec to be the best in the world, the stats tend to back it up as well.

I'm all for courtios coming in but I don't see the hurry. Sign a new contract next season and of you go to a premiership club on loan to get some relevant experience.

I'd like to see Cech finish his career here but Courtois has many more years to offer and a world class GK is just too hard to find so we have to hold onto him.

Also Cech has made a few mistakes this season and they usually are in big games eg. that one on one on the goal line vs Man U and beaten at the near post from Aguero and Ribery

What a stupid comment to make, I'm a Chelsea fan! Not quite sure what you're talking about with 'media hype' either, I've just said my judgement is based on watching them.

There is no hurry, but the predicament we're in is that we have two world class keepers, neither of whom will be settling for a spot on the bench. A loan would be beneficial, but what message does that send to a world class player if he signs for a club in 2011 and doesn't play until at least 2015 due to being shoved out on loan constantly? If we go down that route it may end up that we lose him due to his own decision to leave.

2 years on his contract, now is the time to commit him to a new one. If he dones't want to sign then he can be sub keeper for two seasons...

Excellent attitude to have towards world class players pal, think sentiment seems to be blinding your view.

The boy has been aloud to play at a club of his choosing for the last 3 seasons. He's not actually aloud to go out on loan to Athaletico next season. Chec is 31 and the better of the two keepers so why dump him at this point?

Fact is chelsea hold the cards. If Courtois doesn't want to sign a new contract the club have to protect them selves. Its actually the opposit of sentiment... purely a business situation. it's also probably what will happen by the way

I love Cech, he's been a staple of our club for years, he was a member of our most successful team and he was instrumental in our CL title.  But Courtois is already considered amongst the elite of goalkeepers and has been in incredible form in Spain throughout his loan.  The problem here is that goalkeepers of this calibre do not seem easy to come by.  There are a lot of top clubs out there with dodgy keepers because the elite are pretty damn hard to secure and tend to stick around for a long time.  Even City have had trouble here.

We somehow struck the jackpot twice with Cech and now Courtois and I think we'd really regret letting this talent slip away.  I don't think Cech is in decline, he's been solid this season and he can still break out the heroics when necessary.  But Courtois is at least as good as him already, I don't think we'd see an immediate change in quality if we changed one for the other right now.  The difference is that Courtois is 10 years younger and he never sustained a serious head injury.  So I suppose my heart says Cech, but my head says Courtois.  What do we do if we let Courtois go and when Cech finally does decline we cannot secure a player of similar quality?  What if we're stuck with the situation Arsenal, Liverpool or Spurs had for years while Courtois is breaking records for Barcelona?  I am interested to see what Mourinho will do, but we're running out of time to make a decision on this one.

"Cech is one of the best goalkeepers in the world. I know that he has problems with his knees and his back. The goalkeeping coach at Chelsea told me that he does not know how much more time he can play at the very top.

"Chelsea spoke to me about being here [in Spain] for two years in a team like Atletico Madrid before spending a year in a team like Fulham or Tottenham so I can integrate in the English League and after that in the fourth year, the normal thing would be Chelsea."

This was a supposed quote from Courtois to Spanish radio station 2 .5 years ago,  does it have substance? I remember it at the time but was obviously a fairly dodgy source but an odd thing to make up and a fairly specific quote regarding Cech injury.

I think this will be Mourinho`s biggest decision on players this summer, over and above what players he tries to sign. There are quite a few options for our other weak positions, but theres not a many keepers around at the moment able to step into bit Pete`s big shoes.

That's what tips it for me.  If not Courtois, then whom?  We have no idea where the next world class GK talent will spring up from, or whether we'll be able to secure him.  Since Cech also has that knee problem we need to consider it carefully.  Mind you from Courtois' quotes on the matter it sounds like this has all been arranged before hand.  Cech may well already know when he's going to hang up his gloves and let Courtois take over, perhaps he intends to retire early rather than f**k up his knees and Courtois is being loaned on that understanding.

The ideal for me would be Cech to accept he cant play every game due to his injuries, become a coach and take Courtois under his wing while still there as a 2nd choice should we need him. That would be a great outcome for everyone, but I just cant see it happening.
