Brilliant performance from Cech last night, flawless other than a dodgy clearance or two. He had excellent command of his area and made a couple of world-class saves. Courtois has a mountain to climb to unseat this legend.

The difference between Cech and arseholes like De Gea and Hart is that they all make the best types of saves, but Cech doesn't have to do the action hero diving for the cameras. He just does his job and gets on with it without being a narcissist.

Bit concerning these comments from Courtois Snr. Almost seems as if he wants his son to be handed the #1 jersey.

 

Cech isn't exactly a dinosaur and as we have seen from the likes of Van Der Sar, you can go on for a long time.

 

He was very sharp today, and his leadership is crucial. In my view if Courtois can prise that jersey from his hands on merit then fine, but if he has the KdB's about him and expects the jersey on a platter then he can sod off to whomever will pay us the highest price.

He had a good game last night but I don't think he was forced to make any saves I wouldn't expect he or Courtois to make.

I wouldn't hold his father's comments against him.  Agents are typically pricks.

I really hope he can be convinced to do a season in tandem with Cech. It'd be a travesty if we let him slip.

Are you honestly implying Courtois hasnt been proving his worth? For gods sake heres a 20 page thread discussing whether we should offload Cech and make Courtois our starting keeper.

My point about Courtois is it seems that he is demanding to be our number 1 but hasn't played a single in our league yet so in that sense then yes I am suggesting he hasn't proved his worth for us yet.

I don't think he's demanding anything, he's rightfully pointing out that he's playing well and it warrants him being given a chance for him to prove his worth.

I honestly don't have any problem with him essentially saying "I'm too good to be a second option."  I don't read that as demanding Cech's job.  He's proven at Atletico that he's world class and it's only normal that a world class player doesn't want to sit on the bench (see also Mata, Juan).

 

It doesn't benefit anyone for him to be on the bench, playing 1 game in 3 behind Cech.  Either dump Cech and install Courtois or sell Courtois for a handsome fee and reinvest the profits in a top-quality striker.

What do we all think of Courtois' comments about Mignolet saying he'd like to become Belgium number 1?

 

"You have to know how to stay humble and respectful, and he should remember that." is the quote being run.

 

Seems a bit of a pot calling the kettle black situation given his comments over a long period about Cech position as number 1 at Chelsea.

Kompany is the one to have made it at a top club, is captain and is therefore justified in speaking his mind, more so than the other two. i wish our young players would zip it and focus on performing well and forcing Mourinho to bring them into the first team that way. too much talking will get Jose's back up, and is certainly not going to help their chances of being in his starting eleven

Especially with all the talk of building the team for the future, it has to be Courtois. Cech is great, and I love him just as much as all of you, but winning comes with tough choices. If Courtois is capable of sliding in already, he needs to because at 20, its only going to go up for years and years to come.

Yes he has and he's still quality...but we had same decision with cudicini as we have now...that worked out rather well...as I said earlier in this thread, it's a tough decision and very harsh on cech, but courtois is the future

No and he will be always remembered as a chelsea legend...but courtois is just as good now in my opinion and is only 21...
