I think it will take more than one error to change Joses mind. He said 4 or 5 errors is when he thinks about replacing his keeper.

Excellent keeper as he was, Cudicini was never as good as Cech. When he got fit again, Cech still kept his place.

Looks like Real have their own Torres-situation there. Casillas is playing on old merit. Friend of the king and the captain but wouldn't make Chelsea's bench. Schwarzer is better than him currently.

I'm talking about the time of arrival. Cech was not a proven top quality keeper, imo Cudicini was. Cech has gone on to become far better than Cudicini.

Not quite sure why that matters but so is Courtois, not to mention being 10 years younger.

Cech as his best is much better than Cuidcini at his best, yes. But at the time Cudicini was the best keeper in the league and Cech was an up and coming young keeper with a lot of promise. Sound familiar?

 

When Cudicini was fit again he couldn't get back into the side though, despite being the best keeper in the league and Cech being the up and comer. I think Mourinho decided fairly quickly that Cech was the better keeper and stuck with him.

Courtois has a far better comand of his area than Cech and I think that's an important aspect.

In Spain Courtois caught nearly everything that came in to him and very rarely flaps or punches at things which I am all for as that just leads to problems.

At 22 he IMO is every bit as taletened and able as Cech who I think is not at the level he once was but of course remains a class keeper. Courtois can only improve and for that reason I think it's important Jose sticks with him.

At 22 to be regarded as one of thew worlds best keepers is some acheivement, we are really lucky to have both while unlucky in that more than likely we will be saying goodbye to a club legend and a top bloke in Petr.

You've got to remember that Cech had only ever played in the French League, whereas Courtois has already excelled at the very highest club level. In that sense Courtois is much less of a gamble.

He's also as strong as an Ox.

He florred both Cahill was it? and a Burnley boy as he came for the ball.

Despite Courtois starting against Burnley (and Leicester too, probably) I don't think it's a foregone conclusion. With all due respect to Burnley and Leicester, perhaps the plan is to give him a chance against a lower level of opposition, i.e. Cech may start against Everton/Man City?

Well, we know that Cech has been one of the best in the world for ten years, and that he's still fairly young for a keeper. I don't see much of a gamble there. It's more of a gamble booting him out when he's still in his prime and hoping his replacement, who has played one match for us so far, will be as good.

Fair enough but I really don't think he's at the level he was a few years back but thats just me.

Torres is a different example really, he suffered a bad injury and looked a shaow of his former self before we spent huge money on him.

I think Jose has made the right decision, not an easy one of course but the right one for the club and it's future.

We'll have to agree to disagree mate. My whole outlook on this has been based on the fact that we should be looking towards the future. This is a very rare problem to have, chosing between two World Class keepers and I believe it all boils down to who is going to stick around the longest. Cech is and will always be a Chelsea legend, no matter what the outcome.

Really got to appreciate this against Burnley.  I can't see us ever conceding from a corner again.  The guy is a f**king titan of a man.  I don't know how he manages the acrobatics he can pull off with that frame.  

Lets just hope Courtious doesn't mug us off somehow with the contract extension. I don't trust these Belgium kids. Hazard is the only one that hasn't given us trouble.
