Takes some time, he is 23 and has JT infrount of him. First time he does it will be fine.

 

I'm a huge chec fan to the point i think he's underrated on even these forums and I desperately want to seem him break the clean sheet record, 8 games or so left but so far everything that Courtois has shows has been top class. Many have made a lot about his one on one save. For me the best momement was late in to the game, a deap deap cross that seemed to be going over him, he just plucked it out of the air and distributed quickly. He made it look easy but it was anything but. Keepers today don't do it like that any more they are more the shot stopping variate (pepe raina) Chec also commanded his box well over the years although some times you could see when his confidence wasn't high he would stay at home. 

Courtois easily justifying Jose's faith, I think his postmatch with GL very telling, "Courtois is my No1"

Brilliant performance by Courtois. He's a magnificent goalkeeper and heavily resembles Petr Cech before he sustained his head injury in 2006.

He saved us from a certain Leicester City goal in the second half. Had Nugent scored that goal, the whole context of the game could have changed dramatically. I absolutely love him in goals already and it was so hard to split between him and Ivanovic of who was Man of the Match.

Jose won't be told what to do by anyone...he wanted to sign courtois when coach at Madrid...just made the point many of us have on here already...it's not about quality, they're both the same level but one is 22 the other is 32...you can tell Jose is finding it hard to do this to petr, but at the end of the day he's taking stance that no one is bigger than the club and he's right

Jose was in a similar position when he first joined with Pete & Carlo. He dropped Carlo with no emotion etc and did what was best for the long term - Cech. I think he's just doing the same now, Courtois will be imperative for what we hope to achieve in the next 10 years, the club comes before any individual.

Needs to be the next few days really. If he commits to us for the long term then we can give Petr the option to choose is he wants to leave this window or stay and fight for his place. If we allow him to go and Courtios does not sign a new deal we may end up with neither of them in the next few years.

Courtois won't sign in the next few days but he will before the year is out.

Cech will be gone then in the January window.

What impressed me most about that save ( with all due respect to Nguent) was the speed he got off his line and closed off the angle. His distribution was good too, no more of the bounce the ball 6 times, then punt it down field madness. It's only 2 games against promoted teams, but I could see him bench Cech permanently.

YES! I really liked the way Courtois quickly threw the ball down the field to begin the counterattack. I actually think Courtois fits the type of keeper that meshes with Mourhino's concept of counter attack better than Cech. If I was Mourhino, I would stick with the young Belgian.

And that's tough for me to say becuase I really like Cech and wanted him to finish his career at CFC.

If only we hadn't seen Cech do this a million times this would actually be true.

Cech is far more partial to the big hoof upfield, as was Courtois when he first came to Atletico. I get the impression it's a result of Simeone's coaching. The same quick-thinking in transition is also evident in Costa's style of play.

In fairness, I think it is. UtdBen_ said it without malice, Big Pete gave a jokey reply and UtdBen_ took it well without getting angry or resorting to abuse. I'd say it pretty much is just banter.

Will Cech not get a testimonial at some point? The same with Frank and Ash.

Testimonials are a thing of the past. They were a good idea when players earnt like 2 or 3 times the average wage, retired at 32 or whatever, and then went on to run a pub or bookies, but pointless now they're all millionaires, unless they hold the testimonial and then donate proceeds to charity...
