I can't think of any other club at any other time that have boasted two of the worlds best keepers in their squad. We are very lucky.

Not that lucky because one will have to go sooner or later, as there's no sense in having two world class keepers in the same squad. And whoever it is, probably Cech, will inevitably end up playing for a rival. I can't wait for that thread. I still favour Cech. While Courtois has done well, he's done nothing that Cech couldn't also have done, and Cech might even have done better.

I think it's a huge advantage to have two world class goalkeepers. Right now they are both playing at the top of their game, imo. I don't see why Mourinho can't alternate them until one proves he deserves to be the #1 and/or one fails and shows he has to be the backup.

The big benefit Courtois has is the command of his 18 yard box. That must give the back four so much confidence and he's looked mature beyond his years when coming for the ball. Hopefully he's not out of action for long.

Trust me, you won't see me complaining about Cech if he does end up at a rival for a number of reasons.

Why Lampard then?

Will pick Courtois everytime. I remember the past few seasons how corners and crosses into the box were always a nervous affair (might be exaggerating a little?) but now they are mostly dealt with comfortably by Courtois. He seems so calm and with an improved defence infront of him we will be piling up the clean sheets.

Thank you for everything Cech, a legend without a doubt. But please play outside of the EPL when you leave.

I think it's a myth that Cech has had problems from corners and set pieces. We have never had a serious issue with set pieces in the 10 years that Cech has been in goal for us so i don't even know why people bring this up. Cech has always been very good in those situations. Only Courtois is better than Cech with set pieces and corners in the Premier League.

I don't think i have ever seen a keeper as underrated as Cech before. The only clubs Cech wouldn't be 1st choice at is us, Bayern Munich, Juventus and Real Madrid. We will always go with Courtois because of age, Neuer, even though i personally think he is overrated ( 3rd best player on the planet ? i don't think so ) is never going to get dropped for Cech, Buffon is Juventus for the rest of his career no matter what happens and Casillas is Real Madrid's golden boy who can do no wrong.

It wasn't an issue until about two years ago.

I still don't think it's an issue now. Cech is rarely making mistakes from set pieces or corners.

But you acknowledge that he does? Courtois doesn't.

Cech's problem is he looks indecisive and that causes panic in the defence.

Every keeper makes a mistake from set pieces from time to time, even Courtois makes mistakes. In the game against Southampton ( I think it was them ) he made a right mess of one corner which he should have dealt with, it happens. And Cech doesn't cause panic in the defence, we have always looked very comfortable with Cech in goal.

He's still a better shot stopper than Courtois though.

I don't agree with that. He's made some absolutely fantastic saves for us.

I simply can't agree with that on the evidence of last season (and pre-season he chucked one in, and for the national team if I remember correctly). There was the error at Stoke which swung momentum their way. There was the game in Paris. There was the West Brom game. Just a few examples off the top of my head.

Courtois and he are at least level on most points, but Courtois is so far ahead of him when claiming crosses.

Cech might not have had a majpr problem with crosses and corners but seeing Courtois make it look a lot easier just shows there was room for some imporvement. Nothing against Cech i love him to bits but we have to look to the future. In an ideal world Courtois would be a few years younger and could start playing for us just as Cech was hitting the end but we play the cards we are dealt and we have been dealt 2 of the top 5 keepers in the world.

All players make mistakes, it's silly to say otherwise. That includes Courtois, even if for some reason some act like he's Schmeichel, Banks and Yashin combined. One flaw I've noticed is a tendency to commit himself too readily, which can leave him in no man's land if he misses. It happened against Newcastle, as one example.

I'd have thrown in Jennings's name. Never seen much of Yashin.

But you're right. All players do make errors but there's an important distinction between one off mistakes and a persistent, recurring issue.

Yes he's made some fantastic saves, but Cech proved in the last match that he's just a step ahead of Courtois in terms of shot stopping. Cech has made some saves in the past, that being honest, Courtois just wouldn't have been able to replicate, the Hernandez save springs to mind. We would not have won the Champions League with Courtois in goal, with all due respect to him, but he's a top keeper and he's going to get even better.

The goals that he's conceded have been down to shoddy defending 95% of the time though, but Cech may have saved a couple of those goals.

Cech is better. It's a fact.

Courtois is conceding way too many goals!

Lot of completely unprovable points there. I'd point to Courtois's saves against United or his save against Nugent in the Leicester game as proof to the contrary...or maybe just his performances over the last couple of years including his role in Atletico's La Liga win and run to the CL Final.

You can't for a moment prove that Courtois couldn't replicate them. It would be like me saying that Cech couldn't replicate the save Courtois made in the San Siro, or that we would've won the league last season if we had Courtois instead of Cech. Utterly pointless.

True, you make a good point, I'm still putting Cech just ahead of Courtois in terms of shot stopping though, just my opinion, not saying that Courtois is a mile off of Cech's shot stopping, but still behind him. I stand by my point regarding the Champions League Final in 2012, that's the best performance from a goalkeeper that I've probably seen and I doubt that many, if any keepers could have done what he did that night.
