I tried but they wouldn't accept anything less than £55m for him. PSG wanted £233m for Marqinhos. Crazy prices!

That is nuts..I guess I got my players at the right time.

Won the league again. That's 2 in a row, and 3 in 4 years.

Another Carling Cup, and semi final exits in CL and FA Cup.

Now we're moving to 60,000 capacity Zola Stadium.

Bit more transfer news...

Marco van Ginkel slapped in a transfer request stating that he wanted to move to a 'bigger club' so I booted him right out of the door. Got £16m off Barca for him, not bad a for a kid signed for £8m, spent two seasons on loan at Inter and then sold for double the money. I used the money to buy Steven Caulker off Newcastle for £16m so I finally have a defender!

A disappointing year, got dumped out of the Champions League by PSG in the semis, Carlo managed to beat them in the final in Paris to claim his 5th European Cup.

Man United were deadly in the league, in most years 90 points will claim you the title but unfortunately we couldn't match their consistency. Also got dumped out of both domestic cups, a barren season on all fronts.

The only bright spot was the new stadium, we're two years away from a move to the 57,000 seater Zola Park. In amusing managerial axe news, AVB's second spell in charge of Spurs has come to an end after he was unceremoniously booted out by the club's new owner.

MVG is woth 30million for me (I could sell him for 50mil if I wanted I assume), and has been one of my most consistent players...but I suppose sometimes things are unavoidable.

Seems we're both on our way to our new Zola Park

I have devised an evil plan to get Juan Mata back, allow me to elaborate.

As things stand Real aren't interested in selling, naturally enough, as Juan has been a pivotal player in their European Cup winning campaign. If he continues to be a first-choice selection I can't envisage his value dropping, so I need to find a way to influence his playing time. Impossible, right? Wrong. Here's why...

ibtIlTdZqCtDYm.PNG

It's not often that you're able to nab a 29 year old of Kagawa's calibre on a free transfer, I jumped at the chance. What does this have to do with Juan Mata, you ask? Well, Kagawa is on par with one of my attacking midfielders in terms of skill, so I now have an unwanted surplus in that department...

ib1YtXsajH9Vf4.PNG

Juan, meet your new competition! Draxler is naturally a left winger but with Bale and Ronaldo working that flank at Real he will end up getting game time at CAM... step aside Juan Mata. Ideally, after a season of playing second fiddle Juan's value will drop and Real will be willing to sell.

In the meantime I can develop Kagawa into a consistent first team player and raise his value, allowing me to sell him for a healthy profit and add to my Mata kitty. There's also the added bonus of only having to pay him 90k per week whilst Real cover Draxler's 140k per week, and the increased shirt revenue from Japan.

I'm confident it will all work out, Juan will be a Chelsea player by the start of next season and we'll have an improved Draxler to call upon as well. Bank on it!

A fairly quiet window on the transfer front, my main aim was to bring in some top rated regens for my youth system. The biggest acquisition was Sergio Ramos from Real, he's still got a fair bit of pace and his experience of winning three European Cups over the past five years will be invaluable in my quest to win one for myself.

How do you get the badges of the premier league teams and kits etc?

Mata was put on the transfer list in my game...he starred for Real when I first sold him, then he stopped getting played, as Real just kept buying players.

I was tempted to get him back, but he was down to 2 stars, and just wouldn't have got back in the team. Incidentally, they were also trying to sell Willian, who I also sold to them. They're not even registered for the competitions Real are in.

I finished the first season last night. It was a bit of a scenario, I messed around with the data editor before I started it. I did not want to replace José after 2 weeks so I removed him and his assistants from Chelsea and I also undid some if his tinkering: No Willian and Eto'o, and Lukaku and Moses stayed with the squad.

It was a quite successful season but ended with a bit of a sour taste. We won the Super Cup to kick-off a slow but ultimately greatstart. Had a very easy run in the League Cup, the only challenge was in the semis (Spuds) and the in the final (Manu), but my B team gave them no chance. Walked away with the PL comfortably, it was a one horse race from the go. As I noticed once you put together a good run and the players get in a good form it is quite easy to maintain the run. Lukaku is a beast, he scored 42 goals (26 in the league). Went out from the Cup against Fulham, 1-0 away loss. Was going to win the CL too, crushed Bayern and Rea l in quarter and the semi final, 2 goal lead at HT against Barca in the final - only lose the lead (f**king Messi scored in the 93rd minute) and then the game on penaltien. JT missed our last one... I feel a bit like Avram Grant. More witty, handsome and successful mind, but still...

OK no screen shots but I have to tell this story. It is both gripping and sad.

I started a game with Genk in the Pro League (inspiration over to you KRC fan). I had done a Pro League save last year and it was a lot of fun. The league structure is so good and keeps it very exciting. I'll just talk about how to top 6 works as that is where I finished. The top 6 go into a 'Championship Playoff' whereby their points from the 30 game regular season are halved and then they play each other twice.

I finished the season top and 6 points clear of Club Brugge, thus had a 3 point lead. I made a flying start to the playoffs, but by matchday 4, things took a turn for the worst first losing to Lierse then Club Brugge. My lead was cut to 3. I bounced back with a win away to Cercle Brugge, but then a catastrophic 4-0 defeat at home to Anderlecht left me in 2nd.

Next up Thorgan Hazard's Zulte Waregem sitting in 3rd. I went 2-0 up, but Thorgan scored 2, before setting up a third in the 88th minute when I was down to 10 and with a right back in goal. Brugge's draw to Lierse kept the race alive and now it was a three horse race.

2 games to go and I trial by 2 points. At home to Lierse, 2-0 up again. Brugge are beating Zulte, so I am in must win territory. Then Tony Watt (on loan from Celtic at Lierse) scores 4. Yes 4. It seemed to be over. I didn't deserve the title, my young Genk boys had chocked. But just as Brugge were about to take the title, they let in a late goal to Zulte.

This left me 3 points off Brugge going into the last game. My GD was significantly worse, but league rules state that if teams are tied in the playoffs, the team who came top in the regular season get the higher place. So the title was still in my hands. We had to beat Brugge and then our shameful run of 6 defeats out of 7 would have been forgotten about.

It was 2.30 am, but the adrenaline was oozing. These are the sort of games we love FM for. The title match.

We got off to a flyer. My striker, Hassan, ended a 14 game goal drought to give us an early 1-0 lead. Was the dream on? Well seemingly not. In the space of 20 minutes my team crumbled. We went 4-1 down. Brugge were taking the pisch and having their title party on my own yard. My keeper was averaging a 2.7 (Never seen a rating so low) ; it seemed nothing could be salvaged. I had resigned to defeat, a 38th minute consolation goal by Hassan, did little to raise morale but did lead me to put tactics on Overload as I had nothing to lose. A mircle was brewing.

44th minute my right winger makes it 3-4 and then a moment for all Genk fans. My AM and club record scorer, Vossen, ends a 22 game goal drought to equalise on the stroke of half time. The flares were out and the place had gone wild. I told the players I was delighted and they were stoked. I felt we had to seize momentum after HT and stay on overload, a plan which worked a treat when player of the year Kara put me 5-4 up in the 60th minute. Game of the season? You betcha. The job from here was a slow retreatment back to base camp and shut up. Brugge had few chances, though De Stutter hit the bar and missed a sitter. But the lads held on and somehow we were Pro League champions!

I went wild in the Press etc and then my computer crashed. Brilliant.

Got to do it all again with 3 games to go.

Tears were shed. I feel your pain.

I remember a similar story when I tried taking Brighton to the Premier league on FM 2013.

In the play offs vs Hull. 3-0 after home leg. Lost 4-0 on the away leg due to 3 late goals.

Since then I have never used 'contain'. What a load of f**king sh*t.

Going into season two I sold Essien to Everton for 4m, Moses to Monaco for 16m, Mikel to Real for 14m and Marin to Dortmund for 10m. Chalobah and Piazón will be promoted to make up the numbers. Manu was pushing for Ryan, I told them to f**k off and seeing that they were in the market for a LB I bought Shaw 18m (rising to 27m with addons) but with the transfer delayed for another season. Ash retired from international football so he can get one more year :)

Also sold/released a bunch of other younger players and brought in a few regens with 4.5* potential.

One thing that I cannot achieve is selling Torres.

Currently 11th in my season, improved a lot won a couple in the Premiership and won two games in the Capital Cup defeating Arsenal 4-0.Won two in the group stage of the UCL and drew one.My league form is concerning since i already lost four and all of them away.My current team is similar to the one we use now apart that i frequently give a chance to Chalobah in the defense and in the midfield very pleased with him.I'll post some screen shots soon.

Improved moved to second in the League but a drastic drop in form and exit from all the cup games and not managing to hold out on 4th Chelsea sacked me,i am the worst manager ever to play the game

I'm still playing 13 as Carshalton Athletic, it's season 20/21 and despite winning two promotions in my first three years can't get out of the Conference, still Tranmere away in the 3rd round of the cup coming up, COME ON YOU ROBINS!!

Inverted fullbacks are all the rage.... Such a hipster.

Ha, I think I've only ever played him at #3 on a couple of occasions when injury forced my hand. He's a bona fide thoroughbred centre half in the mould of Franco Baresi!

He's already rated 5* for current ability by Steve Holland, the next best players we have are the 4* Lucas Romero and the 3.5* Eden Hazard and Marquinhos.

I've finished my 6th season, it was a bit of a mixed bag.

ibiKsfZMU2TECC.PNG

We had a solid year on the home front, winning our third title in six seasons. We didn't manage to have an impact in the domestic cups but I wasn't too concerned about them.

In Europe we overcame Porto, Bayer Leverkusen and Schalke to reach our third Champions League final in six seasons. We were up against Bayern Munich in Barcelona.

We had to deal with two crucial suspensions for the final, I was forced move De Bruyne into CM to take up Goretzka's spot and I had to start Sergio Ramos in place of Azpilicueta. Even so, our line-up on paper looked strong enough to finally get us over the line...

We couldn't send Frank off with another Champions League medal.

This is why you save after each game.

Fortnightly three-file rolling auto save for me, saving after each match would slow things down too much for my taste.

Edited by Charles Ryder

Do I see Charly Musonda in the Bayern line up there?

Since everyone seems to have signed Luke Shaw, how is he doing for you guys?

My worst signing so far.. poor performances, hasn't developed and is down to 3 stars potential.

  • Author

Yep, I sold him to Southampton for 1.8 million and Bayern ended up paying 22 million for him one season later!

Ah well, it's not as if cash is hard to come by at a top club.

Shaw has been fine for me, though he's only ever been an understudy. I've just sold Baines but have bought a top notch Argentine regen to start at #3.

Started playing FM tonight after a brief (enforced) rest period.

Started the process of the laptop migration headache. Got my new laptop. It's a behemoth. Enormous, heavy, but very nice. Beautiful, enormous screen too.

---

Nearly finished another season. I should win the league, but I'm out of the FA Cup, after fielding a complete second string team in the 6th round, and 6th round replay against United to save my players legs. Ended up losing 3-2 in the replay against United's top team. Interestingly though, I have United in the Champion's League QTR's and the FA Cup match fell in the middle of the two legs of that. Won leg 1, 3-1, so I should win progress there with a fresh team.

----

On Shaw, he's been average for me. Usually finishes the season rated between 6.85 and 7.00. Generally ok, but rarely good.

i2VSH0sNHk3Hr.PNG

Not a bad purchase at 16.75 million!

Holy sh*t! He's stupendously good!

Got the attributes to play in centre midfield too!

He has 7 in 8 for me.. crazy, including 5 in the last 2 games (hatrick against Southampton and 2 against City)

How much did you get Nastasic for?

He stopped scoring after that run (I knew he would, but it was still disappointing). Has only scored a few more and now it's nearly the end of the season.
