Nemanja Matic - Great Player?

Featured Replies

Fair enough, reflex reaction, we're programmed to survive and protect.

and yet he expected a better and more balanced reaction from a player who almost had his leg snapped.  Im sure these some irony in here somewhere.

Haha I'm literally laughing at the reactions to my comment. Ok I will accept the majority view that it was stupid but I still stand by my view. Matic should not react like that!!!!! Think about the bigger picture!!! You are not injured and you still have a game to play. Count your lucky stars. Matic let the team down today imo.

look i don't know what level you've ever played football at but pro's and semi pros know when someone has tried to do them, and when it's a mistimed tackle, and barnes tried to do him. and players react badly to that!

Sorry, I wasn't clear. I meant reflex reaction from Matic (survival) and protection from us for the despicable act towards him.

Croydonblue I play grassroots typical Sunday park football.

I always moan to my teammates how fortunate pros are. They get an injury and there are medics treating them in a flash. They get the best medical attention and don't have to carry themselves to a 9-5 job with a bad injury.

I've seen a leg break on the pitch and it was such a pain to get him to the hospital.

Was it a red card? Yes

Will the red card stand? Yes

Was it a bad enough tackle for Matic to be angry? Yes

Am I still annoyed at Matic for his reaction? ... Yes, because at the end of the day, it cost us 2 points.

Im just super raging over it.  I think Matic was pretting constrained considering the context.  This wasnt just a bad tackle.  This was a mediated assault by a guy who had done in two other CFC members, Matic would of known this and I suspect thats why he snapped.  Because he was half expecting it and just enraged when confronted with the fact he was on the same pitch as a guy who was seriously out there to hurt CFC players more than to play football and the ref was doing nothing.  Didn't even pick up a yellow and he could easily have gotten 3 reds.

I dont know if you ever played competitive sports, but Ive been in similar situations and it gets your blood going to see that happening and the ref do nothing.  And ive obviously never played competitively when the stakes are so high.  A broken leg would not of cost me tens of millions in lost wages and completely erased realistic dreams of professional sports glory.

Or let em ask this, what should Matic of done considering this was Barnes third go at injuring a CFC player and the ref had done nothing to stop it?  Would we be happier had Matic stayed on the ptch just to see Hazard or Fabregas stretched off 10 minutes later?  Because, based on the evidence, had Matic not reacted it was only a matter of time before Barnes targeted another CFC player.  Why wouldn't he?  Ref was ok with it and nobody else was doing anything to prevent him.

I'm aghast. These men are sportsmen using their bodies over and over, they need the best care over a relatively short career period.

In that split second of 'my leg' I doubt Matic was thinking about three points.

Barry bridges yes I expected a balanced reaction from matic.

A reaction that would've seen us claim 3 points and no crucial suspensions.

Could/should of had a better reaction?  Perhaps, but he was the only out there trying to protect CFC players from a   guy who was trying to do them in multiple times, I cant really fault him for that because a balanced reaction might just of allowed Barnes to just try to put in a similar tackle on Cesc or Hazard or Costa considering Matic's reaction was the only punishment Barnes got from any of his 3 attempts to injure CFC players.  The ref didnt do anything to deter Barnes behavior.

I know we compare this to grassroots but come on, as a professional you must adhere to common sense and realise your responsibilities.

A leg breaker for me on a Sunday will put me out of work for a few days at least which I need to pay the bills.

Agreed, I have to watch the old ticker and my BP is through the roof. During the match I posted that Barnes was provoking pretty much from the off. Your analysis is bang on.

i dont know what your job is but its safe to say a leg breaker wont force you to change careers

A leg break for Matic could completely destroy everything he has dedicated his life too.  You see the difference then?

Matic has his responsibilities.  I would say protecting your key players is more important than not dropping 2 points or do you suggest that its worth risking losing a key player to injury for a mere 2 points?  Perhaps his common sense was, this is the third time the refs done nothing so obviously I have to or nothing will be done.

What makes you think that Barnes wouldn't strike again had Matic just walked away?  People like that just get bolder the more they get away with it, why do you think Barnes was still out committing these horrendous challenges?

End of first half I predicted that either Barnes or one of our players would get sent off either via red or injury(or one of each) as a direct result of his repeated dangerous challenges that seem designed more for injury than ball winning.  I was right on that, part of why I was so livid it was Matic being sent off because if an amature like me is seeing this it is deplorable a professional ref misses it.  Now I cant prove it obviously, but there is no doubt in my mind that had Matic just gotten up, Barnes would of been at it atleast one more time and his challenges were getting worse and worse, bolder and bolder.  I shudder to think what his next challenge with intent would do, and to whom it would be done.

I think what got under Matic's skin is how Barnes just waltz away from the incident. Barnes knew what he was doing. Just curious if the FA will investigate his actions like they did w/ Diego Costa tsk.gif

Don't blame this guy. He did what everybody would. Only girl and opera singer wouldn't push this idiot Barnes. Because of this kind of men football is regarded as male sport.

Don't touch anybody, don't shout  at anybody, don't offend anybody... UEFA propaganda in action.

Pretty much sums it up for me too

I have played Coed footie here in the States & we have Women that will deck you for getting too close. Ok we do have some pervs that will get a lil' feel if you know what I mean & that will cause the same reaction or even worse than Matic had. Just saying!!!

again Im going to bang this drum until its broken.

Matic might have cost us 2 points (might of dropped em anyways) but he also might have saved one or more of our key players from a season ending injury or worse.

Also, there seems a lack of focus on the Costa penalty that wasn't awarded; it would have taken the game in another direction. Good reffing=good play.

Literally laughing !. Your not Jamie Redknapp are you?

I genuinely cannot believe some people on here are having a go at Matic.

Just take it a lot of you are robots with no emotion. The only thing I'm upset about is that Matic didn't knock the c**t out.

Sorry if somebody's already answered this but if we appeal, when is the decision made?

Is it possible that we appeal, lose the appeal, but Matic can still play at Wembley because the FA haven't made their minds up yet?

My brain's scrambled so I'm not putting this question very eloquently.

I hope somebody understands my question and I hope somebody answers it.

Think about it folks, that person could be you.
