Nemanja Matic - Great Player?

Featured Replies

Sorry if somebody's already answered this but if we appeal, when is the decision made?

Is it possible that we appeal, lose the appeal, but Matic can still play at Wembley because the FA haven't made their minds up yet?

My brain's scrambled so I'm not putting this question very eloquently.

I hope somebody understands my question and I hope somebody answers it.

Think about it folks, that person could be you.

I'd have thought we'd have to appeal pretty soon which gives them over a week to make a decision. I can't see it.

Davey, no one here can really answer that for you because this is the same FA who literally re-wrote part of their rule book and applied it retroactively to go after one of our players.

You have no idea how you'd react, unless you were in his shoes, I'm pretty sure most people wouldn't be able to control themselves though.

Sure, If I was a player I would not have reacted like that at all, knowing my absence could very well fk up our season especially in such a vital phase.

We've already dropped 2 points because of that.

I know we deserved 2 clear penalties.... it's because of his reaction we dropped those 2 points which would have lead us further to the title.

Any appeal will be sorted before the final.

I can't understand how anyone would say matics actions deserved a red card. Yellow at worse. People are pushing and shoving each other all game, it's not like he raised his hand. It was just a push.

It's violent conduct.

I need to see it again but I don't think he raises his hands, it's just a bit of a shove. I think there are grounds for appeal, and I certainly hope we do so.

It's violent conduct.

It's not violent conduct to push a player. If that was the case then 3 or 4 players would have been red carded in that melee against everton.

Matic is one of the most important players. So far he was very cool calm and collected and I wouldn't guess he would act like that but to be fair he lost control - his emotions kicked in which is totally understandable knowing that he could have his leg broken during that tackle.

He shoved him to the ground. That's certainly "intending to cause harm" which by the letter of the law is a red. It doesn't matter if it isn't much harm. So pushing a player is violent conduct.

I think if it was a crowded situation with shoves all around, then Matic stays and gets a yellow as is commonly seen.  I think it was because they were relatively alone/isolated and Barnes goes down like a sack of potatoes that gets Matic sent off.

I was surprised that Matic's reaction didnt result in the ref giving a yellow to Barnes because it was clear something bad had happened.  Hopefully this is because the FA has said, leave it alone unless you're sure so we can deal with retrospectively.  And in than feeling of hope Im going to go put a tooth under the pillow for the tooth fairy.

And that is a very, very dangerous precedent to set, atkinson has made a real rod for the f.a's back, because now everytime someone gets pushed, refs will be looked at for not sending off people pushing other players? we will wait and see? how many times this season have you a player pushing another player.

So, for the Costa penalty that didnt get called, he was shoved in the back.  You claim that's a red too?  He was shoved to the ground.

They are completely different. One was intending to cause harm, the other was not. One was tussling for the ball (still a pen) while the other was off the ball.

As ridiculous as it may seem, it is in fact violent conduct by the laws of the game. Players pushing and shoving each other while playing the ball is completely different.

I think a red card was harsh and I hope we appeal, and win.

The problem I think we have is that he ran a bit of a distance and then shoved him, which makes it look worse.

But the letter of the law says nothing about intent, only about violent conduct.  Violent conduct can be intentional or unintentional but a shove to the ground is a shove to the ground regardless of intent.

Sad git that I am, I looked up the definition on this document:

Here it is:

Violent conduct

A player is guilty of violent conduct if he uses excessive force or brutality against an opponent when not challenging for the ball.

I genuinely do not think Matic is guilty of that. If he had struck him he'd have been guilty, but the fact that he shoved him rather than punched him showed a degree of restraint, making his - entirely understandable, if heated and costly - reaction less than 'excessive'.

In some part we all have to defend him, but we all know that his red card made a huge change for Burnley.

Everytime I watch this and I support Matic in that situation, and of course his legs more important than win. But I think he could just push him and do it by different way and not like he did.

Wayne Routledge given red card for reacting to Karl Henry challenge

Swansea manager Garry Monk criticised referee Anthony Taylor

FA confirm Routledge red card rescinded on Friday evening

Swansea winger Wayne Routledge has successfully appealed against the red card he was shown against QPR on New Year’s Day and will face no further punishment.

Routledge was sent off for his reaction to a strong tackle from Karl Henry in the 86th minute of the 1-1 draw, with Henry booked for the challenge.

The dismissal had left Routledge facing a three-match ban but that has been lifted after his appeal was upheld.

It can be seen that way but I think with the way he gets up, heads straight for him and has to be restrained by our players can be seen as excessive even without focusing on how much power was behind the shove.
