Nemanja Matic - Great Player?

Featured Replies

I've said before that I don't think we can win games without him.

Three games that were already tough, that could decide our season and his actions have got him banned from them.

To say I'm disappointed is an understatement.

MOTD choose not to show the attack on Zouma....

Could be because Jose never highlighted it, YES.

If I was Matic I most certainly wouldn't run up to Barnes shove him over resulting in an instant red card. I more likely would've ran over to the ref to protest. As bad as the tackle was, you still have to use your head. In matics case, a potential leg breaker doesn't give you the right to react in a way that gets you sent off. You have a responsibility to help your team.

You didn't see Ivanovic or Zouma get up to shove Barnes did you? When Cahill stepped on Sanchez you didn't see any rage backlash from fhe Arsenal player. Dirty challenges like Barnes happen every week, they are far from acceptable but you just don't react. It's not like Barnes was standing over Matic either, he ran enough distance to realise his reaction was wrong.

If we lose this title in May, this will be one of the games where we screwed up through a lack of mental toughness.

Still printing rubbish I see.

Czech Hook, you're not Matic and even the most empathetic could not possibly imagine what it is like to be a footballer, a footballer for Chelsea, a footballer at the top of the league.

I would never presume to advise as it would be like a Reliant Robin commenting on an elite high performance machine.

Let's just be glad a 26 year old still has his legs and career.

I hope Burnley get relegated

Nailed on, they are sh*t. Them and their Desperate Dan looking c**t manager are going back to where they belong.

Looking at the play-by-play there was no foul called on Barnes.  I am going to totally get flamed with saying this, but the foul on Matic looked bad, but I don't think it was as intentional as everybody is making it out to be.  Barnes is in the process of passing the ball and his follow through ends up planting on Matic's leg.

His foul on Ivanovic should have been a straight red though.  He clearly cocks his leg and extends it full force into Ivanovic.

I'm more than sure it was intentional. Barnes made 2 very reckless fouls on Ivanovic and Zouma earlier in the game, he wanted to hurt them too. If you look at the video and look at Barnes face you can actaully see him looking at Matic's leg as he plants his foot into him. I am in no doubt that what he did was intentional.

Yep, eyes, facial expression, body language and not even a moment of concern suggesting premeditation. If accidental there's an immediate reaction showing some form of shock or regret.Compare this nasty piece of work with others in other games and it's clear enough.

Oh look, nice to see consistency. Vertonghen just escaped a red for the same incident.

If the FA refuses to overturn Matic's suspension then there's some seriously shady sh*t going on.

Sorry if I've completely missed it but does anyone know if we're going to appeal? Can we even appeal?

This quotes Jose as saying it would be a waste of time, but things change and after today's interview there may be pressure.

Yep, i saw that, what a load of sh*te. How can Matic get sent off but not Vertonghen ?

Matic should have his red card rescinded.

Is there any reason that we would NOT appeal, other than Mourinho saying it would be a "waste of time" (although I suspect he was being flippant and not entirely serious)? Considering the precedent with Routledge and today's incident with Vertonghen (I haven't seen this one but people are saying it's comparable) we must have solid grounds to appeal. What I mean is, what would we have to lose?

I forget the exact words , but if the FA believe an appeal is being made just for the sake of it then they can extend the punishment. Matic was rash it has to be said, but his actions do have context and the fact he only shoved him should mean it was a yellow not a red. At the time, and at the match, I have to admit I couldn't work out why he was so irate - but I can now.

Who was the defender who pushed Costa over in the box ? Perhaps he could get a retrospective ban too :)

As Barnes is jumping towards Ivanovic, he cocks his leg and then forcefully extends it into Branislav's leg. I've done that same maneuver in martial arts. There is absolutely ZERO possibility that that was a product of his jump to head the ball.

This looks so more unnatural than the Costa incidents against the scousers , it's laughable.

Looking around, it seems the majority of the media are backing Chelsea and are in agreement that Atkinson was shocking.......wouldn't have expected that!

Do have to wonder if the FA will do anything regarding Atkinson, can understand him making a few little mistakes as refs are only human but missing 3 huge calls is shocking for this sort of level.

Not going to expect anything though as we all know the FA are a complete bunch of jokers
