Nemanja Matic - Great Player?

Featured Replies

Thanks, Ashley Barnes and The FA?

Jose said Nemanja Matic made the speech in the dressing room before the game, and used his pain to motivate his team-mates.

There was a funny story yesterday wherein José supposedly wasn't even sure whether Mati? would be allowed into the dressing room, seeing as how he's suspended for this match and the next Premier League match following the red card he received for retaliation against Ashley Barnes.  Turns out that he was allowed in there, and now we also know why Mourinho was so concerned!

It was all part of the master plan.  While Chelsea looked nowhere near as assured and fluid as we usually do with the big man in the middle, we got the job done.  Mati? even got to pull a John Terry, and put on his full kit to celebrate with the rest of the boys.

He does need to practice his belly flops a bit more though.

LOL MATIC

:laugh2:

Two wins from two games without him when I was fairly convinced that we'd struggle to get anything means I'm delighted but he's still the difference between us having the ability to control a game and not. We have the players to defend effectively and hit teams on the counter without him, but with him we can actually dictate the tempo and not have to focus on keeping a clean sheet after nicking a goal.

Glad he's back and hopefully well-rested. Needs to avoid bookings in his next few games though because he's on 7.

Indeed and with that it looks like you are admitting that you lost the argument in who is the player we could least do without - Matic or Hazard!!

Only joking - both are key players and it's horses for courses and all that.

But it is Hazard!!

Happy to have. I still think that with Matic you can control games better but Hazard has that spark of magic that gets you something when you're not playing well. Both are key, both are ways of winning games but the pragmatist in me would take the former every time.

And it's Matic!!!

Is this whole Matic injured celebrating a massive troll by Mourinho? I didn't believe it for a second but there is actually news stories and sky sports have video of the moment they think it happened and all that

Surely Mourinho was joking.

I'd say so, since we got no game this weekend. I think he's feeding the trolls for having a go at Matic for joining the celebrations without playing, JT style.

The Express are running an 'exclusive' story that Nemanja Matic and Chelseahave reached an agreement over a contract extension that will be signed in the next few days. This is probably a great time to point out that The Express is usually rubbish, but as this story would at least be logical and people are talking about it, we decided to take the time to note it.

The less-than-trustworthy paper claims that Matic is set to get a bump to 93,000 per week, a significant jump from his current 60,000 per week wage. The new deal would also keep the player at Stamford Bridge for one year longer than his previous deal did, until the end of the 2019/20 season.

Matic has certainly done enough to earn a new deal, and given that he's still relatively young, there's little reason to be worried about his performance dropping off significantly before the new agreement expires. Here's hoping The Express isn't just making this one up.

If he's already got 4 years left on his current one it seems oddly premature.

If Mourinho feel Matic has earned the reaise then i see no problem with it.

Its a good message to all the other players. Work hard and youll be rewarded, simple.

Not really. If the figures being quoted are true (£60k per week), his wages are not high - comparatively speaking of course.

Someone that's performing at the level he is, will attract attention from the Real Madrid's, Barcelona's, Man City's of the footballing world and they wouldn't think twice about increasing his pay to £100k per week or maybe even more.

His actual wages won't be a secret either.

The club are doing the sensible thing, he's come in and performed very well - to prevent the predators coming in, we've moved to attempt to ensure he's with us for a good while yet. It wouldn't stop a 'silly' offer from a desperate club (Man City at the end of this season or next season?) but will stop most.

Spot on and it's good for the club to reward players with better terms when they perform at a consistently high level. I seem to recall they did something similar with Mata and maybe Oscar.

Also interesting to note that JT received his first booking in a game Matic was missing and a striker got a free run at the defence. Vital player and glad he's back.

Have to wonder if he aggravated the injury. No way Jose would replace him at such a crucial stage otherwise.

Hopefully won't be missing for too long but may be a doubt for the Saints game now. Back to Zouma in the middle I guess if that is the case.

Thought he was very lucky to escape a second yellow today, in fact it looked to me like Mike Dean was reaching for his card, and he was rightly subbed by Jose straight afterwards.

It would have left us with the whole second-half with ten men.

Another one who has definitely gone off the boil, may be tiredness, but as with other positions, we just don't have the cover.

I think all of our players have gone off the boil apart from Courtois, Terry and Hazard. But some have gone off the boil to the point where they have become a liability.

Matic, Fabregas, Azpilicueta, Cahill, Ivanovic and Diego Costa have all dipped in form but they still have their positive moments.

Then you have Willian, Oscar and Ramires. These 3 are horribly out of form and i think their performances are costing us the most. I wouldn't mind seeing all 3 of them dropped to the bench. I think if they were dropped, the others would improve.

It only takes one out of form player to mess up the chemistry of the team, i think we currently have 3 of them.
