Nemanja Matic - Great Player?

Featured Replies

Fingers crossed for matic. Glad he's okay but still think he was foolish to react. These challenges happen every week.

Who remembers our Cahill taking out Sanchez? Bardsley on Hazard? McNair on Wilshere?

It happens every week, no need to react and ultimately cost your team two points.

Sorry cech but the tackles you mention are not in the same league as this one, with the possible exception of Cahill which I would have to see again , but even that I think was retribution for Sanchez putting one on Tibo.

There is no place for these tackles in football, he's high , he's dangerous and HE KNOWS exactly what he is doing. So to defend the challenge or dig Matic out for reacting seems silly to me he had every right to react like that. These tackles DO end careers. And if someone took away yours, mine or anyone else's source of income or intended too, I'm not so sure I would react as calmy as Matic did

That is right Sanchez took out Tibo, who had to be subbed out & if I am not mistaken taken to the Hospital for observation. Sanchez might have not lost his temper but le voyeur did as he pushed Mourinho, which was all giggles in the press conference. I am sure if it were the other way, Jose would be being hauled to jail.

Any one who has suffered a long lating injury at the hands of a bad tackle will have no problem with Matic's reaction. We don't want another Paul Eilliot situation.. just look at the picture ball is long gone, its late, its of the ground, it's high. it's a leg breaker

Awful tackle, should be looked at after.

How does this one compare to the one Mikel put in on Arteta last season?

Both Mikel and Arteta slide in for that one, very unfortunate that Arteta came off worse from it but it's not as premeditated or dangerous as Barnes challenge.

Agreed.

It's not the same situation at all that one.

Disgusting Barnes is getting away with this, you can only imagine had it been Costa that he'd have been hung, drawn and quartered by now.

Good that we are appealing but I honestly don’t see it being overturned.

I remember that. Nothing alike as far I'm concerned. It was a fair 50/50 and no intent. Those tackles will happen in a contact sport. And Mikel is as honest as they come. Barnes though is a real scumbag, his intention is arguable and the resulting injury could have been career-ending.

What is interesting was the media influence in the Costa ban incident.

I wonder if they will be swayed by the outcry of fellow pro’s and pundits saying Matic reacted like a man who’s leg was intentionally trying to get broke.

To me they're both bad tackles. You say it's premeditated which I think is an incredible claim to make considering the speed of the incident. Doesn't mean it's not deserving of a red but you're making claims for something far worse than what you can prove.

Again, not something you can really prove but I'd expect some bias when asking the question.

Ignore it. I'll delete the video and post because it serves no purpose here.

Well considering he kicked Ivanovic's hamstring in mid air and planted a knee in Zouma's back in the same match I really don't think it is a stretch to say that what he did to Matic was intentional.

It wasn't an isolated incident in that match from Barnes.

Didn't say it was, but if you're saying he went out to seriously injure a player rather than put himself about in a physical manner then that's a bold claim to make.

I wouldn't make that claim without knowing it was fully intentioned.

But I can see that I'm disagreeing with certain people so I'll state that he should've seen a red for that, should've seen a yellow for the Ivanovic tackle and that we should've had at least one penalty but Atkinson was atrocious.

Yup he could have had 3 separate red cards in that game.

It's hard for players to see their team mates studded and attacked while nothing gets done and then when someone tries to snap your leg on purpose then what are you supposed to do?

The ref clearly wasn't for caring and the players were getting zero protection.

Thugs like Barnes don't deserve a career in football, his sole intention is to 'hurt; fellow professionals...in any other line of work he'd be canned.

It's not like this was a one off incident...like FC mentions it was 3 times in the same game he tried to injure one of our players! That's not coincidence.

If I was a betting man I would put money on Matic's red being overturned.

I'm hopeful too, if that's the case let's hope Barnes also receives retrospective action.

I hope you're right. He does react aggressively but it's a push to the chest so it's a tough one. If it happened to an opposition player then we'd probably all agree that he'd have little to moan about but maybe the challenge from Barnes will factor into it. I didn't think Ivanovic would get off so hopefully I'm wrong again.
