Diego Costa to Chelsea

Featured Replies

Love how 1 day he has a £32 million release clause and the next we are sorting out a £40m deal.  ::clap2::

A buyout is a clause that the player can trigger, not another club

Chelsea can give Diego Costa the 32 million pounds to buy out his contract should they so choose, but then Costa has to report it at income, and would owe 44% of that 32 million to the Spanish government. Obviously, Chelsea would have to pay Costa enough to meet the buyout and pay his taxes, unless they want to try the Messi/Neymar tax evasion approach that Barcelona favors.

Which would be 46 million in total, getting pretty pricey...

Footballing ability wise no. Everything else, yes. Very bad.

As far as I know hes never bitten anyone or been caught throwing around racial slurs. Which if you take that off Suarez hes really not that bad at all and hes one of the best strikers on the planet to boot. If he turns out anything like Suarez we would be lucky to have him

Nah. At liverpool he gets a pass for his diving, horrible tackling and all that.

The media tried very hard to get ramires/oscar/hazard pegged as divers so can you imagine anyone who acted like suarez would be treated

All the persistent rumours in the last couple of weeks linking us with Costa have now got me to a point where I hope we sign him.

He keeps on scoring, he's young enough to develop further and clearly has the desire to win.

Out of everyone we are being linked to he seems like the best one in terms of price and ability.

Keeping my fingers crossed for this one now.

There's also other cases like Javi Martinez and also Illaramendi where as if the club makes an offer to the same value of his buyout clause then they have to accept. Pretty sure thats why Bayern & Real paid so much because they knew the selling club wouldn't accept anything else

Gets a pass at Liverpool? Lol okay Jeff...

Doesn't he? I heard he was atrocious against Sunderland but there aren't many stories about it are there? He managed to bite someone (a second time), be done for racial abuse and is still somehow someone who is lauded week in week out like all is forgiven. He gets a massive free pass at liverpool.

It would be a total disgrace if Diego Costa pushes this deal. I thought he loved Spanish football?

FIFA allowed him to play for Spain not for his mother country. If this particular deal pushes through, other countries (World Cup) will start buying/loaning other players from different countries as well.

What does the club he plays for have to do with his choice of national team?

He strongly prefers to play for Spain rather than Brazil in the coming World Cup. FIFA considered him to play for Spain because he spent most of his career playing for Spanish football. If he transferred to different, that might ridicule the decision of the FIFA board.

He was allowed to switch loyalties because he qualifies under the residency rule of having lived in Spain for X number of years (4 I believe).

Although Costa had represented Brazil at international level those games were friendlies and not considered "real" games.

It's an unusual circumstance I agree but the country he plays his football in going forward has no barring on his choice of nation he represents.

Their playstyles are so similar. Why do you think Cavani would suit us better?

Both are similar but Cavani is slightly faster and has been a proven, consistent goalscorer for a few years now in Europe. Diego Costa looks class but he's only came into his own in the last 12 months really. Cavani bursts his arse every game I've seen him and seems like there's less ego/drama involved.

I wouldn't be pissed off with either but I think Cavani has more to offer the team. Anything's got to be better than Torres, right?
