Diego Costa to Chelsea

Featured Replies

I still don't really understand why people keep saying this. What does it really mean and why is it a good thing ?

He'll be our twat...........yeah, but why would we want that ? It's like people are getting their excuses ready just in case.

i'm partly joking - if his behaviour is really bad i would not be happy at all. the reputation and character of the club is important. people have pointed out here that despite all the talk about him, he hasn't a particularly bad disciplinary record.  obviously we'll not know how he will react to playing in England until he's been here a while but i'd like to think Jose knows whether he can handle him or not

lets get a sense of perspective... Costa is an aggressive and determined player but he's not a twat like Suarez or Barton

He isn't a thug and he doesn't (to my knowledge) dive or cheat or moan

We need someone like him who has a rough side we don't need another pansy

Yeah well i'm sorry to disappoint you mate but he does all of those things   and a thug is exactly what he is. It was only a week ago that he tried to head butt a player.

Changing the subject a bit here but will he still go by the name Costa or will he be known as Diego now ? From what i have heard he only calls himself Costa because of the other Diego at Atletico Madrid.

An Atleti fan posted in here earlier saying that he did dive once but it's not a serial thing, and compared it to Oscar's dive vs Sunderland (or whoever it was).

From what I make of it and what I've seen of him, Costa is the one who makes others role around on the floor with occasional off the ball incidents. To be fair I don't remember an occasion as to when he dived, however he can be wound up really easy. Still feel that we are getting a top quality striker here though - he plays to die on the pitch. That goal in La Liga where he took a massive chunk out of his leg on the post showed the courage and determination he has. Brilliant!

In which case I apologise

Again from the few matches I've seen him play in (ignoring the CL semi final) he just looks like a fierce competitor with an aggressive demeanour I wouldn't have him in the same category as the likes of Suarez,Pepe,Barton who are figures of dislike for every neutral

This is the kind of striker we need

he plays to die on the pitch.

Wtf does that mean ??

Call me old fashioned ( I am ) but there are some antics I can just about accept during the course of a match. Throwing snot and spit in an opponents face is not one of them, and he's done it more than once. He's a nasty piece of work and believe me if he tries some of his antics in the Premier League wearing our shirt the media will rip us to pieces.

The negative DM etc articles about him will start as soon as he signs. Whether this helps him to not do these kind of things again temains to be seen

He's had a great goal scoring season for Athletico but a friend who follows Spanish football closely told me that his record in previous seasons has been very modest. I hope we are not getting a one season wonder.

Any statos out there able to confirm or refute?

I was under the impression he wasn't getting the games in his previous seasons.

Also, some players just have those seasons where they step up and produce their best. Doesn't necessarily mean he will be a one season wonder if that's what you're thinking

OK, let's compare him to the person you're hoping we sign instead of him, playing in the same league against the same teams. You say you like stats, so here are some stats:

This season:

Diego Costa: 36 goals in 50 games.

Karim Benzema: 24 goals in 50 games.

Doesn't matter though, Costa is probably only a one-season show.

But wait...

2012-2013 season:

Diego Costa (playing 2nd fiddle to Falcao): 20 goals in 44 games.

Karim Benzema: 20 goals in 50 games.

----------------------------------------

Or let's compare him to another one of your proposed targets, Mario Mandzukic, shall we compare career European competition goalscoring records (as they play in different domestic leagues):

Diego Costa: 12 goals in 21 games

Mario Mandzukic: 17 goals in 51 games

The only person with a comparably better record of your 3 suggested alternatives is Edinson Cavani, who will also cost almost twice as much, so you'd hope he'd be a bit better at knocking in goals.

That said, if you compare Costa's 2012-2013 goalscoring stats when he was 2nd fiddle to Falcao, with Cavani's from this season when playing second fiddle to Ibrahimovic.

Diego Costa: 20 goals in 44 games (in a tougher league)

Edinson Cavani: 25 goals in 42 games (in a piss pot league)

His record is certainly better, I do think he's a better player, is he 20m better? Not so sure.

People writing off Costa don't know what they're talking about, especially if they're doing so with goalscoring stats or insisting he's a 1-season wonder.

His Instagram says he's coming Chelsea ..Welcome

You need to be more skeptical when it comes to transfers mate . I can tell you it wont be his official instagram account but just a fan made one .

It wont be official till it is on the club site but I do have to say that at this moment it does look promising .

yeah definitely, a hamstring strain can be quite fragile!

I just hope he is not rushed back, because if he ruptures or tears it, then we are screwed.
