Diego Costa to Chelsea

Are hamstring injuries something that are more likely to flare up again if you've had them in the past though? Provided he gets properly rested over the summer (misses the WC) and it heals fully, is there really any added risk at all? As opposed to something like ligaments which tend not to properly heal.

I wouldn't think this is the kind of injury to put a stop to the deal, although buying an injured player is never a good idea. Particularly one that seems so easy to redo.

In my view these big signings are all about momentum. If you don't play a little while, then you get re-injured and the goals don't flow as you get your confidence back, all of a sudden it's January and you are a flop. And once you are a flop then that is hard to recover from.

Depends on how bad his injury is, but it is a worry!

If its a big tear that rules him out of the world cup, he'd miss preseason and all the planning. We don't want to start the season on a bad note as it might cost us in the end.

If its a small tear and he recovers in time for the world cup / is rushed back its potentially even more worrying as he could freshly tear it again (after we've bought him), making it worse and definitely miss even more of our season.

Either way, if its as bad as it looks he may not be truly fresh for the start of the season.

After the Torres injury after an international tournament this does put doubts in peoples minds.

Atletico won't care if they rush him back (or Spain) if he's not going to be there next season...how much damage has been done or might be done is just guesswork...

I just hope we learnt our lesson and go through all the tests ect to make sure we are not buying damaged goods again.

We really can't afford to take risks on a forward again, we've been burnt already at least two times (Sheva and Torres).

If there is any risk his injury could have a negative affect on his performance then we should most definitely avoid him. I'm sure Chelsea and namely Abramovich are well aware of our failures anyway.

Even if we've agreed a deal he would still need a medical. Once our docs get a look at him we'll either go for it or not.

He's not the only striker we're looking at so why worry?

Because then it might mean Mandzukic is our first choice striker.

I havent trusted our Docs since we signed Torres.

What exactly has he done? the way people are talking it sounds like he has broken his leg. Im sure he will be fit for the world cup and for us in pre season.

Would people honestly prefer Mandzukic than to see Lukaku given a decent chance?

I would like to see Lukaku given a chance just to know if he can do it, but I have serious doubts if hes a line leader at this stage.

The severity is yet unknown, but once torn the hamstring can be ruptured if not properly healed, i.e. rushed back. And once ruptured its a long lay off with lots of rehabilitation and uncertainties.

I think we are pretty much nailed on to get Costa meaning our 2nd choice would either be Lukaku or Mandzukic. Like you, I don't think he is ready to lead the line of a title challenging side, but he is certainly good enough to play Costa's understudy in my view.

If that means our options for striker next season are Mandzukic, Lukaku and Torres then I will be happy enough. It is an upgrade on Etoó, Ba and Torres that is for sure. Demba will likely be off, he has made it clear he wants to play more, and Etoó is gone already it seems. If Mandzukic indeed becomes our number 1 forward I can see Lukaku getting a decent amount of game time.

I'd prefer we have another option that just Lukaku and Torres. We know the latter cannot deliver in front of goal often enough for us, so that would leave all the pressure on Lukaku. There needs to be one more guy who can deilver and is expected to deliver, whether that is Mandzukic or Costa.

Lets pretend for a minute that Ba and Torres leave, and Lukaku is our only real striker on the books...Mandy wouldn't cut it. We don't provide enough crosses into the area for him to utilize his skill set (hard worker, good header of the ball, tap-ins, etc) and I worry he'd be no better off than a Ba on our team.

Lukaku and who?

Costa is a worry for so many reason previously mentioned, doesn't really add up to be in for him this summer IMO. We can certainly be more creative in hopes for summer signings no? Dream for Benz or Cavani, let us not be contented with polished shinned sh*t.

I still believe Lukaku can do the business against two thirds of the premier league but we'd need something else for the games against the top sides and in europe

Mandzukic is a million times better at linking up play and involving the rest of the team then what Ba is.

The fact that you dont want to go for Mandzukic or Costa but rather Benzema tells me we arent going to agree on much football related any time soon
