Diego Costa to Chelsea

Atletico Madrid CEO Gil Marin: "Our intention is not to sell anyone unless the player asks to be sold. Because of our run in the CL we have the money to mean we don’t have to sell."

Would be typical for him to slip out of our hands at the last minute. Unless he's permanently crocked of course, then he'll be over to us like a wasp on summer pudding.

Rather give lewis baker, patrick bamford and lukaku the chances to impress. Might not work but we wouldn't be spending anything plus they aren't injury prone players really.

Ummm just look at our main competition from last season:

Liverpool: 52 goals from their strikers (31 Suarez, 21 Sturridge...#1 and #2 in the league)

Manchester City: 42 goals from their strikers (3 options)

Manchester United: 42 goals from their strikers (4 options)

Arsenal: 24 goals from their strikers (2 options)

Chelsea: 19 goals from our 3 strikers...and then if you wanna count Schurrle's 8 (which I don't since he played on the wing most of the times he scored), you are up to 27

We need somebody who has the potential to score 19-27 goals ON THEIR OWN.  NONE of those players you mentioned (even Lukaku) will be able to do that for us.  I am not even sure if Costa is the right guy for that job, but it's really our only legit option for a realistic price.

Didn't Sky say this would be announced after the Champions League final?

To be fair, this is still after the Champions League final.

I still think this is going to happen. We're just doing the right thing and giving Atletico time to grieve over their CL final loss.

Costa is a ruthless motherf**ker and that is something we desperately need up front.

If for some reason the deal caves in we should go all-in on Cavani, Mandzukic and Falcao.

You don't know that none of them have been given a chance, and costa is injured a lot and looks suspension prone in the PL. Not to mention his release clause is a lot and he has only had one really good season so far and didn't do much against us. And finally he is no spring chicken either, he's not that old but still he's 26 I believe and only had one great striker's season so far.

To win titles you need to spend. Baker, Bamford and Lukaku are not going to win us the Premier League.

So you would go into the season with a 21 year old striker who is the only one to have PL experience, a young striker who got goals in League 1 but didn't always make the squad in the Championship and a midfielder who never played in the PL, who for some reason you list as a striker. Don't get me wrong I think all three are immensely talented and have a big future ahead of them but we are a club that should be challenging on all fronts. Also, why do people keep calling Costa injury prone, he had a hamstring injury from which he didn't fully recover yet was thrown back in. Its not like he is made of glass.

Costa is a very limited striker, Cavani is the way to go!

Courtois
Azpi
Shaw
Cahill
Terry
Matic
Pogba/Rakitic/Kroos/Fabregas

Willian
Oscar

Hazard
Cavani!

I'd be surprised if this one was a done deal at present.

Atletico are very Porto-like in their negotiations. Wouldn't be surprised if they agreed to sell Costa to us and have now had a change of heart and are trying to persuade him to stay.

It's a release clause though I believe, not their asking price.

Yes but we're probably wrangling over how it will be paid, how Courtois fits into it, the whole time they can go behind our back and start persuading Costa to sign a new contract with a higher release clause.

This is a very weird post

Behind our back? You make it sound like somehow Chelsea should be included in contract talks between Costa and Atletico.

Because they agreed in principle to sell and now they're attempting to renege.

If they haven't done it in the leagues they were playing in (and they haven't), THEY WON'T do it at a top flight club in the PL, or in the CL

And costa has only done it for 1 season and he's much older and has had a few injuries this year and was completely nullified against us. Difference is they won't cost a dime and costa will cost a fortune. I'd rather buy jackson martinez than costa, also kram is right baker is an attacking midfielder my bad I just assumed by his strike rate he was a striker.
