Lamps for a coaching role? Why not?

Featured Replies

Not as daft as it sounds

Probably right now to retire from day to day play (after the world cup) obviously, as in al truth hasn't been quite as sharp last few months. But the club already have number explayers assisting with the coaching, so why not start with the U21's and help there - maybe can bring on John swift and baker to next level and progress into the main group

He has the nous, intelligence, charisma, etc and blimey would he get the respect.

Dunno if he has done any coaching badges yet but in any case all signes point to a good move for him and the club

Come on club and frank, sort something please

I read something somewhere the other day where he said he doesn't football to be his entire life.

Presume that's why he started writing the children's books. Can't see him wanting to stay on as a coach now or in the future, unfortunately.

You might be right. Would be great if he could act in some kind of ambassadorial role for the club in the future.

I can see one of a few possibilities happening after this season, which I'm pretty sure will be his last with us.

  1. Lampard becomes a coach, working with the first team or the youth team.
  2. Lampard plies his twilight years in the MLS, potentially helping his former England compatriot Beckham get his project on wheels.
  3. Lampard becomes a pundit for a few years, working alongside Neville and Carragher.
  4. Lampard drops off the football scene entirely for a few years and goes into writing.
  5. Lampard becomes a club ambassador.

No matter what happens, if this season indeed turns out to be his last Lampard can drive out of Cobham safe in the knowledge that he can have few regrets. He's won practically every honor in domestic and European football with us and has been a fantastic second-in-command to JT on the pitch in the process.

i think next season he will play with us, or no-one. cant really see him uprooting his family at this stage of his career. so we either offer him a contract, or he could retire

I think he's retiring after the World Cup. If he doesn't get re-signed over the summer (maybe, maybe not), then I think he's hanging up his boots.  But he might be manager/assistant manager, depending on how that rock paper scissors game works out.

I think the most realistic scenario is he stays one more year as a squad player accepting he's not in the starting XI any more. That would give him time to look at coaching options, maybe get some advice from Jose, figure out if he likes it or not and then in summer 2015 he'll either retire for good or take up coaching.

Though MLS is always an option.

Lampard is an active member of the Conservatives. I wouldn't be surprised to see him in politics.

NO!!  :shok:

Once Lamps finishes playing that's it he will not take up coaching, he also will not contemplate going to the states as that means leaving his girls,

more likely to become a pundit, he has intimated as much on Chelsea TV a little while ago.

Be a shame if he doesn't go into coaching, his professionalism and dedication us something I would love to see passed on to our younger players.
