Areas you see a lot of Chelsea fans

Featured Replies

Wimbledon overall mate was always staunch Chelsea as far as i'm aware, obviously you had local Wimbledon fans, but dont forget they were non league until the mid 70s, Chelsea used to turn out for them in some games in the 70s/80s, they had Leeds at Selhurst in the fa cup in the mid to late 70s & half of London turned out for them so i was told.

Wimbledon v Tottenham in the fa cup at Plough Lane in about 87 also saw loads of local Chelsea turn out for them, myself included.

I used to drink in Wimbledon in the early 90s & got to know some Wimbledon lads that went everywhere with them, they were decent lads at first but then a few of them started getting lemon, one lad was always decent but because of the others we went our own ways.

Very true this, I can never remember SW19, as well as the surrounding parts being anything other than Chelsea areas, probably why Wimbledon always suffered support wise once they climbed up the leagues a bit, as CB said a lot of local Chelsea used to go and watch the Dons when they were non-league, even one well known Mitcham poster from this very site used to get over Plough Lane now and then, but that part of the world always was, and I hope still is, a Chelsea manor through and through.

I see more Chelsea shirts and hats and stuff in and around Bedford than any other team.

Always had a good turn out from Bedford, as long as I've lived in this part of the world anyway. Northampton and Hemel too.

Lived in Streatham when I was young lots of kids in primary school supported Chelsea. Moved to Beckenham in 77. Surprised looking back they were all Scouse glory hunters with the rest Palace fans. Brother took me to the bridge in 78 When travelling up for games to Victoria it was packed with Chelsea coming off the various kent coast trains. Remember flags from Hastings, Ramsgate, Bromley and Margate. I'm sure others will say other places I've not mentioned.

Remember the Wimbledon v Leeds match at Selhurst well, it was a replay after a draw in Leeds. Wimbledon were in the Southern League then, but the match was a sell-out. The Leeds mob came down expecting very little opposition, only to be confronted by a large mob of Chelsea and Millwall. Needless to say, the Leeds mob took a hiding and got ran everywhere after the game, great fun!

There's plenty of Wimbledon fans in Raynes Park- on my road there's several bring the Dons back to Merton Stickers- talking of which if they move to the dog track, I reckon that's SW17 and Wandsworth borough not merton- the dividing lines the lovely old Wandle, which separates the two. So they're not coming back to Merton at all if we're splitting hairs. Ps It wound me up something rotten the allocation for the semi at highbury they received. No chance of selling yet they wouldn't put the tickets back our way.

Ps ps what with rocketing property prices the Wombles can't afford to live on Wimbledon common these days. They've all been forced into Raynes Park !

They'd be better off trying to move in with Tooting & Mitcham, they have plans to build some new stands, also they come under Merton.

Great thread lads.

.

Im 40 and went to school in Harrow .

Growing up in the 80s there wasn't a lot of Chelsea where I was in the northern part, it was mostly Spurs and Liverpool.

A lot of kids families tried to get their kids to go to Watford as there was no violence, but that was social suicide at a time when all that mattered as a kid was to be either hard or good at football

South Harrow and Hatch End was alot of Chelsea.

Wealdstone was Spurs, Chelsea, QPR,

Northolt and South Ruislip was 50/50 QPR and Chelsea though the main pub the Eastcote Arms was famously Chelsea.

As mentioned South Oxhey was west ham and Chelsea and Hemel was the same.

Some London areas will always be the same- Islington Arsenal, Edmonton Spurs but Harrow is one of those areas that has seen its support change hands.

I moved away and came back late 90s ish and the area had become Arsenal, remember popping into the Apollo in West Harrow and it was all Arsenal.

Back when I was a kid the FA cup was the be all and end all and Spurs did well in them and what with Hoddle they were very popular.

Arsenal playing some games at Wembley in the CL got them a lot of support later on.

Now a lot of kids are into Chelsea.

Thing is I don't think theres that many people who go to matches from the area these days, but who does?

Places change as do people, I see lads down the pub ,London Irish who used to cheer for Ireland cheering on England now.

Briefly lived with a bird in North Harrow/Pinner in mid 90s- the only time I've ever resided north of the water- and a lot of the lads my age and older were Chelsea, and everyone younger was Arsenal. Used to play Sunday football for Mirrabeaus wine bar- virtually all the team could hold their hands up including a couple of CFC boys. Ps every QPR fan I've ever met hails from Northolt

I lived right by the Eastcote Arms for years and you right, I used to drink at Harrow Boro and that was also Chelsea.

Loads of QPR in Northolt and South Ruislip, they moved out from White City and the Bush in the 70's and 80's, my wife's family included.

Fascinating thread. Chelsea is popular across mainland UK, mainly south granted, but will I'm sure become an equal global commodity to, and of course superior to, Manure in no time at all. Social mobility is within the world of football and dare I say that some deny their London area roots and adopt Chelsea. Of real interest would be the stats of those who support Chelsea and who were born within the confines of the team's patch alongside those in London who have adopted Chelsea and those who have turned their backs, and heritage, on Spuds just as an example, due to the Semitic association perhaps.

No different perhaps from those who transfer from one newspaper to another for the purpose of social mobility. Let's not forget though that the game; the players; the skill; the joy is at the heart of those who are regulars in the stands wherever they are from.

I hope we have no former Tottenham fans who became Chelsea supporters because Spurs have a strong Jewish tradition.

In the 70's there was a small Chelsea crew from Kings Lynn, good bunch of blokes. Also a few Chelsea in Penrith.

Quite a few dedicated Blues in Cornwall, my cousin and his mates regularly get to the Bridge, even got their own fan club branch.

mirabeaus eh? sunday mornings in McDs ? we were some team back then and yeh we were mostly made up of Chels including our keeper and  Blues brother from north of the border ET, or SE as he was known.

Sadly we've just lost one and his funeral this Wednesday at St.Jo's in Wealdstone will be well attended by a lot of old faces from those days. it's a sad business this getting old thing.

I'd be really interested to know that too. I was born in Hammersmith and the home I was born into was more or less next to the ground. It'd be cool to know how many people there are with a similar story. From what I can tell, not that many. Our fans have historically flocked from all over the home counties, such as myself having grown up in Kingston.

Cornwall blues I remember they used to go fancy dress to the last home games not sure they do it anymore.

Harrows finest- I must know you? Remember Noel, Del, scotch Eddie the manager. Played half a season- probably 95-96- think we won the league. Your not Tony are you?

no pal, I'm not TH but I know him.SE wasn't the manager TL was. I try not to do names on any forums available to the public for obvious reasons.

As previously said there will be a big turnout for one of own this wed with plenty of reminiscing about the old days.

Villa away with the drunken coach driver;on the way to Manure in '88 when 3 minibuses of Spuds from our area tried to settle old scores on the M1; Derby away with the flying seats.stories that always get an airing at weddings and funerals.

With ticket prices going up at Chelsea and if Wimbledon get back to Plough Lane and start having a bit of success I think there will be a new breed of Dons and they might become the majority in that and surrounding areas. A lot of Chelsea have moved out and been replaced with the middle classes and South Africans.
