Thibaut Courtois

I don’t see how it’s nonsense to expect a player to tell his manager to his face if his desire is to leave?

Chelsea have been very good to Courtois and have played a massive part in his success and standing as one of the best goalkeepers in Europe.

If he’s planning on jumping ship then the least he can do is being honest about it.

We don't know what is really being said but there is every chance Courtois has told Sarri he wants to leave. On the phone or to his face it doesn't matter. I have a recollection that he told the club he wanted to leave a year ago. The club have had a year to find a replacement but haven't. The club aren't squeaky on this but if Tbo  has signed until the end of the season he has to stay.

Problem is he may not be so motivated and he will go on a free at the end of the season.

Great, has echoes of the Costa situation!

The whole world knows that rumour, Andy Noth!

Uhm. You are right, ForeverCarefree. Nonsense is not the right word! My apologies.

And indeed! Chelsea have been very good to Courtois and have played a massive part in his success and standing as one of the best goalkeepers in the world! If he wants to go, let him go. As simple as that. He was honnest, I guess. And you have already a massive talent, I have read on this page.

No problems at all.

Don't understand this bit. Who was honest? Courtois?

Because he certainly wasn't.

1 minute he wants to talk about a new contract, then he wants to move to Madrid, then after the WC the contract we offered isn't big enough and now he wants to be with his kids. Think he suffering from a concussion or something because the bloke is clearly confused about what he wants.

Regardless, i think he's treated Chelsea like sh*t running his mouth and he should be sold and sign a keeper that can kick a ball somewhere that isn't the stands.

Don't have that information, Rip.

Yesterday, he was in Genk and I believe he showed some respect for Chelsea. I guess he was honnest in what he told us.

I rather prefer personal reactions then media stuff.

Reading between the lines I think it's Courtois agent that is stirring. Maybe that's why Sarri wants face to face talks. There's no smoke without fire though and there were rumours of him wanting to leave last season.

Without knowing what is really going on I will refrain from insulting the guy.

Bottom line for me is that the team need a good goalkeeper and he is without doubt one of the best in the world. It would be great if the team could have such a great keeper for longer but if he won't sign we need to have a fully motivated Tbo in goal next season. He has a year to go and we can let him go on a free next year. I can't see any point in us letting him go on the cheap now without the possibility of replacing him.

A lot of rumours doing the rounds that Courtois has told Sarri he wants to be sold this morning.

Going to be interesting to see what the clubs reaction is now. Struggle to see how we can keep him for a season now.

Rumours that he's told Sarri he's off. The club has known this was coming so hopefully we've got a short list drawn up and have had talks already. I just pray now that it isn't Butland.

If true, hopefully the club has an idea of who to replace him with, instead of panic buying someone.

What am I saying, of course they don't.

He has a contract. He has to stay if the club want him to.

If Chelsea can get a suitable replacement and he wants to go then he should be sold but the club have already said they won't entertain any further negotiations without a replacement being in place.

He stays or Chelsea do something stupid and offer Everton £80-100m for Pickford.

He has to stay but he doesn't have to play well/be motivated.

We all saw the issues an unmotivated Sanchez had in his final year. Courtois certainly seems like the type of player that would stink up the dressing room and not give his all on the pitch. Can we afford to have that?

The club have cocked this up. They haven't found a replacement despite the writing being on the wall a year ago and we could go into the season without a quality goalkeeper. Something we have got used to over last 14 years and beyond.

Would any goalkeeper really deliberately play badly or "stink up the dressing room". He may lose motivation but he needs to understand that he has signed a contract to play next season. Goalkeepers are a strange breed and would look a bit stupid if they suddenly started letting in goals. I think their team mates would have something to say.

It would be great if we could magic up a keeper from nowhere but Real Madrid are only offering £30m when the going rate for a keeper of his quality is more than double. Why should the club sell at that price when they can have Courtois for another season.

The whole situation stinks. Our window closes on Thursday yet Real have another week or so during which they can unsettle him.

As I say, the club have cocked this up.

He clearly doesn't want to be here, and in a lot of ways I don't think he deserves to be either.

f**k him off, and let's work with players who are interested in giving their all, not pissing and moaning about wanting to be somewhere else every 5 minutes.

I agree with this post really, but regarding the highlighted bit.

I think if Thibaut Courtois has shown us anything during his employment with Chelsea, it is that he will say & do whatever he feels will benefit the interests of Thibaut Courtois.

So, if that meant whispering in Hazards ear constantly for the next 12 months about how great Madrid will be, how much they want him, and how much he should push for a move, in order to ensure his buddy goes with him (as he stated was essential when recently blabbing to the media) , then I am pretty sure he would do it.

On a lesser level, even if he didn't actively do anything like that, having someone in the starting 11 who has made it clear they want to be somewhere else, simply can't be a good thing in my opinion.

This is from March. Courtois is quoted as saying he will definately be here next season, and he will either extend after the world cup or leave on a free at the end of his contract.

So maybe the club could've forced his hand and bought a replacement, but he has strung us along big time.

You make a good point and no it wouldn't be ideal. Thibaut has saved our ars*s on a number of occasions and I would give him the benefit of doubt if it meant going into the season with Willy in goal. Yes the press have been putting about the story with Hazard and him going together but I suspect Hazard will go next year anyway. If Chelsea can negotiate a new contract with Hazard now we could get £180m for him at the end of the season.

Who would you like to see in goal next season?

I really don't know. Hopefully the club have something lined up.

The best solution I can think of, given where we are now, would be Keylor Navas coming the other way.

He would presumably want to keep playing, and aged 31 could buy us a window of 2-3 seasons to find a more long term replacement.

Bulka looks a promising talent, but quite frankly I think it's madness for people to be suggesting he should slide into our starting 11 after an impressive cameo in a pre-season friendly. We could learn a lot more about him in the 2-3 seasons where Navas was first choice.

I'd keep Courtois. Have a good look at Bulka. Then assess it towards the end of the season, maybe look for someone up and coming like kepa or lafont, if Bulka is deemed not ready.
