We've got ourselves into this mess by not selling him sooner. All the signs were there and  It's the same with Conte. We should of sacked him earlier if our intentions were always Sari. Now we have Butland as the favourite to step in, there is no time to pursue other targets. Butland is the easy option.

We've have got into a habit of leaving things to the last minute lately and we are interested in replacing the best keeper at the World Cup with a keeper playing in the Championship. That's the reality of the situation. We should of sold him a lot sooner and been more vigorous in pursuing someone like Alisson. I am not ruling out Butland or whoever as a success for us but we've left it too late and that is becoming a common theme. Whoever is handling transfers for us over the past couple of seasons needs to buck up or step down. It seems we are trying our hardest to save money in certain situations and then we go blow it on signings that take us backwards and not forwards.

There has to be a direct link with not having a technical/sporting director at the club. 8 months after Emenalo left he hasn’t been replaced; players contracts and transfers in/out of the club have been a mess since the lady took over.

The communication between a player and the club seems awful. Why can't you report for training and just say I need this move. Sarri seems the kind of person you can talk with openly.

I said previously, maybe harshly and looking too much into it, but I'm thinking he made a conscious decision to have children with a Spanish woman. He knew he was on loan and most likely would have returned to Chelsea, but got his ex pregnant at a young age in Madrid and these are the consequences of his actions.

Unless Kovacic is a GK in disguise, It would be dumb. Would rather swap for Oblak.

we need a midfielder too so get him and try for a goalkeeper

Kovacic will cost lot more in today's market and this is way better than 35 million offered

why would Atletico  do swap ?

Thibaut Courtois was in Tenerife last week. On holiday with his kids. He,s not in Tenerife right now, neither in Madrid. #CFC https://t.co/JThj3rifyy

Thibaut was at home, yesterday. In Bilzen.

Today he's in London. Or his plan has changed.

He really is such a dislikable human being.

If he has genuinely gone AWOL then that is disgusting behaviour for a 'professional' on his wages. We should take it with a pinch of salt of course, but it really wouldn't surprise me- it would be in keeping with the way he has handled his desire to leave from day one (which is do whatever suits him).

We need a replacement; what happens to Courtois for the next 12 months should be very low down the priority list for Chelsea.

Would love to see him miss out on his 'dream' move to Madrid though, one way or the other.

I see the logic in what you're saying, but it's a bit tricky. It's all well and good to say we should have sold him sooner but we don't know what was going on behind the scenes. Courtois is a world class keeper, there aren't many like him around and they aren't easy to replace. Top clubs don't want to sell their best assets, and for a good reason.

For us even to entertain the idea of letting him go in the past we'd have had to have at least a ready replacement of the same quality and hopefully not lose money in the process. Real probably weren't desperate to land Courtois and were just biding their time keeping in touch with his agent and planning to get him on the cheap. Now they're making their move and offer very little because we're up against it due to the contract issue and the player forcing the move with only days left in the window.

He's gone AWOL because we probably told him that we are going to get a replacement in and we haven't.  It's a lack of professionalism on his part but the board should of been prepared for this situation. The signs were all there that he's wanted out for a while due to family reasons and we have had plenty of time to get a replacement sorted and have this run smoothly. Now we have a couple of days to get a replacement in and it's a good chance that the replacement will be a championship keeper who has not been picked up by anyone else. Real Madrid have taken advantage of our incompetence, they have a quality keeper who he's going to replace. There seems no sign of movement for him and we failed to pay what Liverpool paid for Alisson.

After that Mourinho season, Conte worked wonders. Then we sold Matic, Costa and replaced them with a one season wonder in Bakayoko and a super sub in Morata. Now we are on the verge of selling Tibo and Hazards contract situation remains unsure and even more unsure now with Tibo forcing a moving. We have lost a title winning spine and there's a very strong chance that our best player will be gone next season also.

The situation we are in now is down to poor management from the board. We've replaced top quality players with average and we are doing the same with this deal.

If history tells us anything Sari won't get the time either. Lets hope he does and he can work wonders like Conte did.

I usually don't like to moan but the signs have been here for a couple of years.

If he’s gone awol fine him a weeks wages. Tell Real f**kin Madrid it’s 40m or nothing. Then tell the player he’s a c**t and put him with Chelsea ladies. Piece of dog turd.

As an alternative to selling him now for £31M, or keeping him for a year and then seeing him leave for nothing on a free transfer, why can't the club just buy his ex and her kids a free mansion in one of those nice estates in Cobham ? He can then sign his new contract and visit whenever he likes  :-) Probably only cost a couple of million ... maybe five tops ...

Looks like Butland is the one we are going for. What a disaster of a replacement that would be. The club can't have seen his "performance" for Stoke against Leeds the other day.

Should have gone for Allison when we had the chance.

Allison is another over hyped sh*te keeper...£75m for him is a joke...still laughing at Klopp and his hypocritical views on buying the EPL...

Stick him in the reserves for the remaining year of his contract for all I care.

If he’s not going to be man enough to return to training and talk to the manager face to face then he can just sit out the final year of his deal and keep finding him his wages if he doesn’t turn up.

Acting like a proper knob head not coming back.

If it’s true I think he has to go replacement or not. Better to get 30-40 M while we still can.

This teaching a lesson and letting him rot in reserves is all well and good but very very costly and I don’t think we’d want him hanging around the club.

Compare the his behaviour to that of Eden Hazard.

One is a model professional, one is a self-obsessed little brat.

Hazard working hard at training today, and clearly accepting of the fact the club can't sell him this summer.

Should he still want a move next summer then I doubt many would begrudge him it.  He will be remembered as a Chelsea great.

Courtois can f**k off and be remembered as a prick.

Unbelievable, he's rumoured to have gone awol and acted the c**t yet still some people blame the club.

It's extremely unprofessional for his part and he hasn't helped this situation at all but the writing has been on the wall for a while now. We have failed to prepare for this outcome and the club should of known that there's a high possibility that this could happen and now we are forced into a panic buy. There's plenty of blame to go around and a lot of it falls on Tibos shoulders but as a club we've had a summer window to act and we haven't.

You could also argue we're reaping what we sowed here ... if you allow someone to go out on loan for three years to the same place, and to a culture and climate that is arguably more appealing than your own, should anyone be surprised if that person starts thinking of the loan destination as "home", especially having met a nice local girl, bought a house, started a family and so on ... he's only human after all ... and he demonstrated in year one of that loan that he was the right stuff as far as goalkeeping is concerned ...

Real arent even paying the market value, you cannot just blame the club for this
