Morgan Schneiderlin & Nathaniel Clyne monitored

The fairly reliable Dominic Fifield has said we are monitoring both Schneiderlin and Clyne with a view of potentially bidding for one or both in the summer.

Of the two Schneiderlin would probably be the better signing as he would add some needed quality and depth to our midfield.

Clyne though a capable fullback isn't likely to come to us to play second fiddle and would arguably be the third best right back at the club behind Ivanovic and Dave. So not too sure why we would be interested other than him being homegrown.

Schneiderlin is an interesting one because he counts as homegrown but he'd cost more than £20 milliion in all likelihood. Seems pricey for cover and would rather go with Mikel for a year and develop a youngster.

Clyne is good, he's English and he's been consistent over a number of seasons but he'd also be expensive and he probably wouldn't dislodge the best right-back in Europe.

Interesting, I didn't know that. Although after having a little read I am surprised that he's been at Southampton for so long! I assumed they had picked him up from someone like Nantes two years ago...

Schneiderlin is a good choice because we can't expect to pay out a ton of money on a central midfielder so he would be a lot cheaper than a pogba or the like.

I'm not sure he's the player we need next to Matic although that pair would be one of the most defensively solid in the world. I also think he'd cost too much and is too good to be backup to Matic.

I'd take Schneiderlin but i'm not sure about Clyne.

When Clyne is playing in the bigger games he often looks clumsy and out of his depth a bit. I think the level he is at right now is the highest he can go.

Would be absolutely gutted if you get Schneiderlin, he's the only player in the market that can do a "Carrick role" in the sense that he's capable as much as a holding midfielder as he is a deep lying playmaker and we're quite thin in that respect. He'd fit right in to our starting lineup but I'm not sure if he would in yours with Matic and Fabregas being the foundation of your excellent midfield.

He's a top bloke, seems like a great leader and with all due respect to Southampton he really deserves a push to a Champions League side.

Will be an interesting one.

Very interesting indeed, but I feel he'll be wasted on our bench if we do get him

He'd probably force his way in as a starter, with Oscar making way. Matic, Schneiderlin, and Fabregas midfield, especially in the bigger games requiring a solid midfield.

We should only even be thinking about getting Schneirderlin if Oscar makes way, but as long as we have Oscar in our team its a silly deal
