How Good Was the League This Season?

Featured Replies

Just remember, those writing off MCFC next season, likely would of written off our season when AVB was sacked.... yet we got a CL ND FA cup. Probably would of written off JT after raga froze him out.... certainly wouldn't of expected him to become the only player in the past decade to win th BPL while playing ever minute of the season in form as one of Europe's best CBs. They probably would of scoffed at Mourinho coming back to win another title when he left the first time. Probably would of chortle when told Mike would be a MOTM performer in a CL final etc etc

That's the beauty of sport, it's unpredictability. Sure some things are very likely but just make sure you have a friend with a couch to sleep on before you bet the house.

Except for Arsenal, i dont see any other team improving sufficiently to challenge us next season

I dont think we were particularly good this year, yet we walked the league. Even if our team stays the same as it is now (which it wont, but for the sake of the argument), Utd would need to make up 14 or so points. City and Arsenal 10+. Thats is a very big leap all of them would have to make

The macnhester teams will need to spend big, and by the looks of their last years signings, their scouting department is garbage. City have 2 wolrd class players in Aguero and Silva and thats it. Utd have a fecking army of has beens on obscene wages. Both clubs are a fecking mess. They arent worriying me in the slightest. Im already writing them off and im pretty confident about it.

As i said already, arsenal can actually challenge us. They had some injury issues, but theyre still up there, and with a new striker and some new defenders they can be contenders.

Dont care about that. that CL wasnt won off of player quality. it was won off of determination and a huge experience in the competition. One frank lampard has more CL nailbiters under his belt than that whole Man CIty team put together. How many of them have actually played in a CL semi final? Yaya Toure?

Even if that Chelsea team was past it, just look at who we are talking about here. Lampard, Terry, Drogba, Cech, Cole . . . they have a history of absolutely dominating the English competition, not just turning up in spurts and winning a title on goal difference.

How anyone can put this Man City team shoulder to shoulder next to that Chelsea team is beyond me. Not to mention our team is led by Mourinho, and theirs by fecking Pellegrino

The season we finished 6th in the league?

They might advance to the final of a cup competition like Villa have this season but I was referring more to their league form. Cup competitions are different from leagues though and upsets are more possible.

I don't really buy we did this. You keep saying it like we did, but I doubt it. Waiting for Jose maybe. Not pep. No ways we held off for pep then somehow get Jose in the 11th hour. He would have been approached and dealt with months in advance.

But it wasn't the 11th hour. Pep announced he was going to Bayern in January and Jose was appointed in June.

But Man City at worst are gonna finish third this season, same as we did in 2008-09 and then in 09-10 we won the title.

The cup competition comparison is clearly just to say don't write off players who have won things because they can show they still have it. Man U were hopeless in the 01-02 season but they managed to come back and win it on 02-03.

I think the league is as tough as ever, but the quality on show isn't consistent enough. There is a lot of very good footballers in the league, but they haven't been consistent enough.

I think what the league has lacked this season is great games. I can't think of many that i thought were great games.

The one great game came early on and it was us against Everton.

That had everything.

That was my favourite game of the season. Liverpool v City and Tottenham and Arsenal were pretty good, but i can't think of many more.

The media tried to use the slant in 2012...It didn't work.

Met up for a catch up straight after barcelona thrashed them the other week. It's not the media putting a spin on anything, they are mates.

Never said it was.

I said they used that in 2012 to try to convince their audience that Pep was going to City.

He didn't, he choose Bayern.

You discounted the similarity of Pep being a preferred choice of the City hierarchy in advance of his "availability" to our obvious arrangement between Mourinho and Roman prior to his return based on the 3 year working relationship that the two have.

Txiki and Pep are friends, ergo it is not outside the realms of possibility that a similar situation will present itself up in Manchester.

Nobody is trying to convince anyone that it will absolutely happen. It is simply a possibility and there is every chance that Pep could be primed for City with Txiki playing a vital part in obtaining his signature. Based on their close relationship and history, akin to that of Roman and Jose.

Add to that the fact that Marti Perarnau who wrote the account of his debut season in the bundesliga said that Pep's intention is to "pass through England starting from Bayern and culminate in a national team".

Would hardly constitute flying pigs if Pep goes to city.

The league is exceptionally good, the best in the world. Spain, Fermany, Italy, France etc don't compare as there's seldom an upset and it's never particularly close apart from the top 2 teams.

I know I would rather have 10 games a week where it was extremely difficult to predict most if not all the results

rather than watch Bayern walk it, PSG buy it, Juventus fix it and Barca and Real duke it out for it.

League is strong, I looked at Swansea, 8th on the table, did the double over United and Arsenal. How did the 8th ranked team in the other leagues do this season? Burnley got a point against us, and beat City at home, you don't see that too often in other leagues. Then you have the like of Spurs, when field their best 11, it's quite a team.

The problem with this argument is that it works both ways. Is it a case that the small teams are stronger or the big teams are weaker?

You can't definitively say either way. Results aren't a great statistic to use for this question.

Like others have said, I think the quality of the players in the league has certainly risen but for the top 6 teams they don't have a coach to match. The ten point gap suggests Jose'sJose's ability sticks out like a sore thumb.

We started the season with a fantastic form, we were playing awesome football and were the best team in the league. We've made a record, we're on the top since the first game, we have the best defence in the league, everything is good in the team. We started to lose from our form after the first half of the season and it's legit. We deserved to win the league, we've lost only twice in the league. To win the best league in the world is means a lot, every team can win every team, but we stayed strong all the season. I think we did great this season in the league, best team in the league has won the best league in the world.
