While we knew for about 2 of those weeks £30 million would not be enough.

If "panic mode" has been entered since the City game and we are planning to throw money around on 2-3 more players to improve the squad, I'd bet on maybe 1 more final bid near £40m. 

 

I'll say it again, for a club to make a 3rd bid, after the opposition manager has said a handful of times the player isnt for sale, indicates that either Martinez is playing the media/fans and telling them what they want to hear, or there is encouragement coming from Stones and/or his camp.  

 

This was also what a licensed agent said on radio after the 2nd bid rejected news broke.

All we are doing is pissing Everton off by not giving them the value they want...it's clear we want him.

leaving it to the last 2 weeks after a month of bids we knew were getting chucked out is a bit strange to say the least.

Just sat here wondering what Kalas and Christensen must be thinking they are at least as good at Stones...

 

So why did Kalas struggle for game time in a top tier team in Germany and finds himself playing in the Championship this season? 

 

Christensen has played no senior football so how can you possibly know he is better than Stones who having only just turned 21 already has going on 100 senior appearances. 

Wonder if they still think Stones can join Barca, or Madrid or Bayern next year and will be worth £60m on grand old team.

 

Just been on there, are they still actually being hypocritical about our players answering questions on Stones.

It's all relative. Stones is young, he's English and he's a good defender. Mourinho can make him a great defender. Pairing him with Zouma gives a new CB pairing for 10+ years.

 

Otamendi is a good defender, better than Stones, but he's small and he's 6 years older than Stones. For Silva the same applied: better defender but he's already 30 years old.

 

Also: Stones still has 4 years to go on his contract.

 

I think we should just pull the trigger on this one. It's very clear by now that Everton will hold out for their asking price and they won't budge. Just match their asking price and make him a Chelsea player. We have wasted plenty of time already. The sooner these guys can join our squad, the better.

He's not worth 35 or 40m as a player, but like i said, many conditions come into play. 4 years left on his contract, Everton that don't need to sell, his potential, ... If you take all of that into consideration, i think it's not that big of a deal to pay a bit more.

40 mill for a Stones who is only 21 and has over 50 official games for Everton.I mean the potential is huge but 40 mill is way too much.

To put the fee into context is only £4 million a year over next ten years, stop fluffing around and pay the darn money.

We probably don't have to sell anyone. 

 

We did good business in the last couple of seasons to barely spend anything. 

 

We've there abouts broken  even this summer I think, possibly even slightly in profit. 

 

Throw in the new Yokohama deal, the improved TV too and I dare say we could easily go out and spend £100m if we wanted. 

Come to think of it, we did fleece them for £28m on a striker who cant trap a bag of sand. So.

 

EDIT: Where is BlueDylan lately, he was a decent poster who didn't wear Everton tinted specs 24/7.

We don't need to sell anyone, we have +-130m£ we can spend. I'm not saying we need to buy Stones, but just pull the trigger already. Either buy him for what Everton is asking, or just stop pursuing him at all and look somewhere else.

 

We don't need a striker. What we do need is a CB, a CM and an AM.

Because we can actually win the league that we play in? Madrid are obviously a top side but they haven't been that successful or late bar the CL win and I can't see that changing as long as barca are around.

Also we are (narrowly) even less of a circus!

He's not a nailed on starter every week there as far as I'm aware, they rotate the 3 of them. Here he'd be pretty much guaranteed to play pretty much all of ours IMO.
