August 27, 201510 yr He's a great defender timing wise. Good ability to read the game but as mentioned lots before, really lacks pace. Sounds like JT actually when written down but JT is miles ahead.
August 27, 201510 yr I quite like the look of Jose Gimenez. Very young and raw but done really well in Spain and only going to get better. He also plays for Atletico so there's a good chance he will end up here by default.

ATM have already sold/loaned out miranda. they have gimenez/godin/savic as their CB options. plus he was brilliant there last season. it will take stones' amount of money to pry him from ATM this late in the window.
August 27, 201510 yr 28, going to be 29. 30mil is 10mil too many. Sorry, was talking about Garay. The post above mentioned Jimenez
August 27, 201510 yr Sorry, was talking about Garay. The post above mentioned Jimenez ohk. in that case 30mil will be less in this window. gimenez is a brilliant player. much higher ceiling than stones and so close to the end of the window. it would take a massive offer to get jimenez.
August 27, 201510 yr I dont know much about him and I cant remember seeing him play. Ill take your word for it. How much we reckon it would take to pull Dier away from Spurs?
August 27, 201510 yr Even still Levy wont let Dier go for any less than we're offering for Stones I have to think.
August 27, 201510 yr Stones, to me, is unrpoven to what he can do. A couple seasons back we were "linked" with Ross Barkley and how he was going to become the next big England stud. Injuries and fall of form have hampered his development a little. Why would we take the risk on Jones being the next "big thing" to come out of England. As good as it would be to have home grown talent, its not bad to look elsewhere for young talent. Varane could cost between 15-25 million pounds, has experience in league and European competition. That sounds a lot better than 45 million those Toffees are holding out for, yeah right, thats David Lulz range and we see how that turned out for P$G.
August 27, 201510 yr Varane could cost between 15-25 million pounds, has experience in league and European competition. Thats a typo right?
August 27, 201510 yr Bound to be a typo, if we could get him form 25mill you have to believe he would already be in our shirt.
August 27, 201510 yr Thats a typo right? As far as I have read, I dont think weve made an official bid for him right? Dont see why £25 million would not be enough to pry him away from Madrid. Hes clearly second choice to Pepe, for who knows what reason. Think hed be better option than Stones.

Hes clearly second choice to Pepe, for who knows what reason. Think hed be better option than Stones. I think you need to check your info again. Last season he played in 21 league games and ended up playing for more than 2000 minutes. He's not "clearly second choice". Also, Pepe is 32 years old. Varane is their future. He's not going anywhere. We were linked with him earlier this year, Mourinho even made some comments about him. But in the end nothing concrete happened because there's no chance. Also, Pepe is 32 years old. Varane is their future. He's not going anywhere. We were linked with him earlier this year, Mourinho even made some comments about him. But in the end nothing concrete happened because there's no chance. Gotta also remember that Pepe was injured throughout the season, so his numbers would look really good. If he does not come to SW6, Benitez might play him more since he does have a habit of giving younger players a chance to play. We are always linked with any big name that may be "disgruntled" at any transfer window. Dont see why trying to spend £30+ million on Stones is a better investment than Varane, whos a year older, experienced and has shown he can play on the big stage. Seems like a better investment than someone unproven, IMO.
August 27, 201510 yr Why don't we just recall one of the on-loan defenders back, Kallas? Seems to be a waste of money if we pay big for Garay just to fill in the gap for a year or so, when we really want Stone or Varane for the long term.
August 28, 201510 yr Strange as he is 29 next month so not exactly a long term option Buying someone who is 29 doesn't add up to me. Don't see the point in signing this guy at all. He's 28 so not exactly one for the future, He's less than a year older than Pedro and plays in a position that ages a hell of a lot better. At 28/29, a central defender is just about to enter the peak 4/5 years of his career.

Its just hard for a player to be playing for chelsea and against suarez one day with promises from jose (i remember kalas saying something about that the one season he was here), and then to be loaned out to KOLN. also, he has been performing quite well with middlesborough. exactly the type of player we should be looking to develop.

August 28, 201510 yr At this stage it'll have to be someone with a buy-out clause that can be activated...which mainly means Italy or Spain...though I've read that Juventus managed to negotiate Witzel's release down to €25m...if they can do that then I don't see why we can either?
August 28, 201510 yr He's less than a year older than Pedro and plays in a position that ages a hell of a lot better. At 28/29, a central defender is just about to enter the peak 4/5 years of his career. Considering our back line has a 31 year old Ivanovic, 29 year old Cahill and 34 year old Terry it's strange. Chasing Stones made sense because we could build for the future, buying Garay and you risk a lot of your defence declining/retiring at the same time. The less chopping, changing and overhauls of a defence needed is a good thing in my opinion because they can build a better understanding by playing together frequently and over a greater length of time.
