September 16, 201510 yr I think we're the most competitive league, anyone can beat anyone on the day... it's far more entertaining than La Liga etc. You'd have thought that would make the English better in Europe mind.
September 16, 201510 yr I think we're the most competitive league, anyone can beat anyone on the day... it's far more entertaining than La Liga etc. You'd have thought that would make the English better in Europe mind. Tis indeed. Probably works the other way though, it's an annoying cliché but there are no easy games in the Premier League. Contrast that with La Liga where Real/Barca can win 80% of matches on auto-pilot, and concentrate resources on European matches. As we've seen this season, if you drop off 10-20% in the Premier League, pretty much every other team will beat you.
September 16, 201510 yr I don't think English sides can adapt to European football in recent seasons, i'm not confident about the Premier League keeping a European spot next season.
September 17, 201510 yr Someone change the thread title please? Perhaps, British capital team Chelsea do what the others couldn't....
September 17, 201510 yr Really? Can I have that as my new thread title, Gem? 'Karma and jinxing things?' Please!
September 17, 201510 yr Do you mean the one currently called The Life of Krc - Let the wind blow high, Let the wind blow low, Through the streets In my kilt, I'll go!?
September 17, 201510 yr Do you mean the one currently called The Life of Krc - Let the wind blow high, Let the wind blow low, Through the streets In my kilt, I'll go!? Yes, Gem, that's the one he means! Please change it for him. He will keep nagging you till you do!
September 17, 201510 yr http://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2015/sep/17/premier-league-clubs-champions-league-places-europa-coefficient Could get interesting! 2005-2009 was a definite Premier League era...since 2012 however it is basically us keeping the coefficient up there. A Champions League, a Europa League, and a CL Semi-Final. In comparison, the best that Man Utd, Man City, Arsenal, and Liverpool could manage in the CL were 2 United Quarter Final appearances. In the EL it's a similar story- a Quarter Final appearance for Spurs and Newcastle, both in the year we won it. To be honest, with a record like that Italy probably will deserve to have the extra 4th spot over England.
September 17, 201510 yr SO....Liverpool haven't even beaten a foreign toddlers' football team, then? Not in the knock-out rounds, no. That's because they are crap.
September 18, 201510 yr Crazy to think that since 2005, an English team has reached the CL Final 8 times. 2005- Liverpool 2006- Arsenal 2007- Liverpool 2008- Manchester United & Chelsea 2009- Manchester United 2011- Manchester United 2012- Chelsea
September 18, 201510 yr Feel free to add Maccabi to the Chelsea list and no one else to the everyone else list lol Edit: and if not for Overboard 9, with another CFCvMUFC CL final in Rome Edited September 18, 201510 yr by Barry Bridges
September 22, 201510 yr http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/34324794 "English clubs may lose fourth Champions League spot" - quite a good explanation of how it works. One thing - I genuinely have no recollection of Spurs reaching the quarter finals of the CL! I must've known at the time, but it doesn't ring any bells at all. Senility is here I guess!
