March 12, 201610 yr He's had quite a few poor games lately, maybe he needs a rest, he's the first name on the team sheet every game.
March 13, 201610 yr He's had quite a few poor games lately, maybe he needs a rest, he's the first name on the team sheet every game. Look's like he has forgotten how to play RB. It could take him a while to get used to it again.
March 13, 201610 yr When Lukaku get past him, he should have fouled Lukaku outside the box and get a yellow thus preventing that first goal.
March 13, 201610 yr When Lukaku get past him, he should have fouled Lukaku outside the box and get a yellow thus preventing that first goal. And if they had scored from that freekick you'd have said he shouldn't have touched him. Hindsight is wonderful.
March 13, 201610 yr His last games weren't great, but at least he's trying and doing his best every game.
March 13, 201610 yr I actually believe that LB is now his best position having converted similarly to how United used Denis Irwin. Reasoning behind it is that with most teams now playing inverted wingers this pushed them naturally onto Azpi's stronger foot.We do lose out attacking wise and he needs a good winger in front of him to track any overlap by the full back but he also covers the deficiencies of JT who whilst being a great one to one defender and organiser is sadly found out when it comes to defending space. Moving back to his natural position he has been needed to provide the overlap more and this has resulted in him not being as defensively sound as we have come to expect. A bit of swings and roundabouts me thinks.

Hindsight is wonderful.I didn't blame Mikel for the foul that led to PSG's goal so why will I blame Azpilicueta if he does the right thing but it unfortunately doesn't work out well? Am not a pessimist.

March 13, 201610 yr He's much more solid playing at LB as more attacking players like to cut inside against his strong foot. Looking back, that's probably why Jose persisted with Ivan at RB and Dave on the left. It's the right back we need to purchase.
March 14, 201610 yr As a right footed left back myself, I dont think stronger and weaker foot come into it when defending. Attacking, yes but defending I find easier on the left than the right purely because i prefer to look over my right shoulder than my left for the defensive line. Azpi seems very natural at left back and id prefer he stayed there and we could sign another right back. Baba is unconvincing as a left back, and id prefer to have 2 full backs we can trust to defend properly!
