The club cant force a player to leave ask Winston Bogarde, if Mata really cared and wanted to fight for his place he could have waited until the summer to see if he had worked his way back in the team, but he couldnt wait to leave at the first opportunity.

They probably can in fairness...'if you don't go to United and bag us 38m in the process, your arse will grow roots it will be stuck to the bench that often, because the coach has very little use for you in the system he wants to play'...something along those lines.

A player could still refuse to leave, even if they were told that, and that obviously wasnt said to Mata, he was given chances in the team, he gave up after 6 months, he wanted out at the end of the day, which is why i would never want a player like him back at the club.

Of course we can't force a player sign a new contract with any club. The club can however create circumstances where it's clear to the player that he's better of accepting any deal if he cares about his career and not only about wages.

Not true, he wasnt a mourinho player, so we cashed in. He didn't sulk, he just got on with his job despite the obstacles he faced. I wish he was still here!!

If you don't want a player here who won't throw away their career just to wear the Chelsea kit (under the warmup clothes while sitting on the bench, obviously) then you probably don't want any of our current players here either because I can promise you that in similar circumstances the vast majority of our starters would be putting in written transfer requests and forcing the issue. Look at what happens when some of them get subbed despite their terrible form.

 

Mata tried his best to get in under a manager who didn't fancy him.  He certainly never put in half shifts under a manager he just won major trophies with.   Very few players in this team I wouldn't have Mata over, even fewer in the places he'd be competing for.

That is a myth! Mourinho gave him chances, he played well against Tottenham and Mourinho rewarded his performance against them with starts in the next 2 games, but Mata wasnt good enough in either game. Mata had enough chances but his form wasnt good enough, it all ended for him when Mourinho started him against Southampton, where again he done nothing, Jose replaced him and the subs came on and won us the game while Mata sulked on the bench like a baby, he gave up, he wasnt forced out, my opinion of Mata will never change.

throw away his career??? he was getting games! its a myth that he never played under Jose, he had chances to play his way into the team he just never took them, i think most players in his situation would have stayed until the end of the season and tried to fight for their place, rather then embarrass themselves by sulking on the bench and then leaving at the first opportunity, if he had any fight in him he would have stayed until the end of the season and then made a decision based on whether he was playing regularly or not.

 

I even remember seeing an interview on Chelsea TV where Mata praised Azpilicueta for not giving up and working hard everyday in training to get in the team ahead of Ashley Cole, but Mata done the complete opposite! players like Azpi are what we need in the team not players like Mata.

Well this is history being re written if ever I've seen it.

Casillas was not dropped entirely by Jose. He was used for the majority of the league games. He was dropped for CL games. A pattern that followed after Jose left... Yes nice affable Carlo also dropped him. For CL games, and shock, cassilas was still at real after Jose left, so it wasn't Jose that forced him out. Let's add to the fact the rift between the two existed because casillas would leak dressing room information to his wife who worked in the media.
