February 11, 201610 yr With Mou almost certain to arrive at United and Mata about to become obsolete there would you want him back? Me personally, I'd have him back in a heart beat, probably still one of my favourite players.....even now he's at Manchester. 27 years old so still plenty of life left in him.
February 11, 201610 yr Used correctly he's a huge asset to any team. I wouldn't be giving United all their money back though.
February 11, 201610 yr Doesn't it depend on the coach we bring in and if he actually fits the tactics? Shouldn't that be what we move towards before deciding to buy square pegs? Ignoring that, Juan's a great player and a great bloke but I don't think you can build a great team around him. There's very few players you can do that with in world football and he isn't good enough to be one of them.
February 11, 201610 yr Top player, top lad, have him back in a heartbeat. Have more affection for him than most of our current players.
February 11, 201610 yr It's a no from me. I don't think you can play him and cesc in the same team unless you can some how get maca to merge with essien and create the ultimate defensive shield. Again, Jose took a lot of flack when he sold him but look at the facts, we won the league a year later at a canter and Mata in 5 years in English football has never played for a team that has seriously contested the title, despite those two teams being Chelsea and United. I'm not saying we wouldn't have won the title had we kept mata but its almost impossible to make a seriouse case for it being a mistake to sell him and ergo, as much as the little fella will always have a place in my heart we need different things right now. BTW I was majorly in the no camp with selling him in the first place
February 11, 201610 yr I would have Mata back in a shot - possibly for all the wrong reasons! Sorry, barak!
February 11, 201610 yr He should come back. Twice Player of the Year and his link up with Hazard and Oscar was a joy to behold. Say what you like about Benitez, but the style of play between those 3 under him was verging on orgasmic at times. Oscar to right mid, Hazard to the left, Mata in the middle. Willian to come on as an impact sub and tear tired defenses absolutely ragged.
February 11, 201610 yr Hmm I don’t think we were all that great to watch under Benitez tbh, we were from memory still rather meh. I mean compare that team to the one Jose had in our title winning season at pre Christmas…that’s the best football we have played since Carlo’s title winning season IMO.
February 11, 201610 yr I don't. As much as I loved him, I can see the limitations that Jose saw in him. Don't think he is suited to the current PL league where everything happens at breakneck speed and we have powerful players all over. He would do well in Spain maybe in Valencia.
February 11, 201610 yr Say what you like about Benitez, but the style of play between those 3 under him was verging on orgasmic at times.Well that didn't happen. Edited February 11, 201610 yr by dkw
February 11, 201610 yr I would, purely because our goal threat at the moment is limited to Costa, and...erm.. not a lot else. I agree that building a team around him probably won't win the title alone, but at the same time he'd offer an excellent option. Think back to the 2nd half of last season, and most of this season- our attacking play is turgid and predictable. He also has a magnificent beard.
February 12, 201610 yr I would, although I don't think he was the same player he left us, still could contribute a lot. We could definitely use more creativity instead of work rate in the final third.
February 12, 201610 yr Never! he showed the type of person he is when he left! I wouldnt want a coward playing for Chelsea
February 12, 201610 yr what the f**k did he do to show that he was a coward? The first time in his Chelsea career things were not going his way and he sulked like a baby then jumped ship at the first opportunity, he showed he is not a fighter but a coward.
February 12, 201610 yr The first time in his Chelsea career things were not going his way and he sulked like a baby then jumped ship at the first opportunity, he showed he is not a fighter but a coward. Jumped ship?? You realise the club were happy to sell him? In fact actively got rid of him to cash in on Mourinho 'spare wheel'.
February 12, 201610 yr Jumped ship?? You realise the club were happy to sell him? In fact actively got rid of him to cash in on Mourinho 'spare wheel'. The club cant force a player to leave ask Winston Bogarde, if Mata really cared and wanted to fight for his place he could have waited until the summer to see if he had worked his way back in the team, but he couldnt wait to leave at the first opportunity.

February 12, 201610 yr He wanted to play at the world cup, he wasn't going to the world cup sitting on the bench.
