April 20, 201610 yr All I can say is...you know absolutely nothing about fan rivalry (or at least have never been caught up in it). Oh come on. I don't think people here need to be taught about fan rivalry by you. I don't mean this to sound rude (but it probably will) but you seem to be trying a little to hard to really hate all the team's you've read that you're supposed to, but you skipped the bit where football is a sport. You can't always win. Sometimes you lose. Sometimes someone you really, really dislike wins and you know what you do? You congratulate them because they deserved it. This whole idea of throwing games isn't just wrong, it's pretty pathetic. If you don't want someone to win something then you beat them. If you can't do that then the answer isn't to then throw a game. It's petty and it's very small-time. We've got to turn up against Spurs as we have done at the Bridge for all of your life and stop them getting something. We've also got to do the same against Leicester because that's why this club was founded.

April 20, 201610 yr Hands up how many Leicester fans you personally know I don't know any. Hands up how many Spurs fans you know well I know loads. Going to work or down the pub is going to be pretty painful for a year if Tottenham win it. Football rivalry is not confined to the internet if you don't want to read about or watch Leicester fans well don't go online or turn your telly off. Never understood why someone would go on Twitter to boast about their football team it all seems a bit childish to me. Edited April 20, 201610 yr by Passed It

That's exactly why we have to be generous towards Leicester should it come down to the final day.

You give banter, you get it in return. You're not special in that sense and to be honest we've had a bloody nice run of not getting banter. Look at it like this - it's character building. You've probably never seen relegation, you've probably never had to worry about your team going under (both those I might be wrong about depending on your age) and a few years ago you got to celebrate winning the biggest prize in football AND keeping Spurs out of the Champions League. No-one here has a divine right not to get stick from time to time. My advice, if a bully says something to you come back with a comment about their mum. Or their fat wife. The classics never die.

April 20, 201610 yr Bloody hell don't be so condescending. I'm a lot older then you and have seen Chelsea relegated three times. And I strongly object to the word banter or bantz. You've turned from a football fan to a crap agony uncle in one paragraph. Sorry about that assumption although I did say that I might be wrong in parenthesis immediately after. I also apologised if it came of as condescending which is obviously how you took it so I'll apologise again. I'll also apologise for the use of the word banter. Having said that the general gist of my point stands. Ribbing, mockery, joking, taking the piss, having a laugh, winding up....whatever you want to call it is part of the game. So is losing once in a while. I don't want to see Spurs win it but if they do it'll be because they deserve it and taking a bit of stick from my Spurs-supporting mates is part of it. I grew up getting stick from United fans, and now I give it back. I had a period of Arsenal fans popping off about Unbeatables and now look at the state of them. I also know some Leicester fans and I'm sure they'll give it. In fact being a Chelsea supporter has been about getting abuse for the last decade, but like I said that's life. None of that for me justifies throwing a game. Ultimately I'm a football fan, a sports fan and there are just some things you don't do. That's not me being a know-it-all either because none of this makes me special. What I am in this instance though, and this is perhaps a first for me, is right. There is no justification for match fixing or throwing a game and there's not an argument in the world that will convince me otherwise because I honestly don't believe there's a Chelsea supporter alive who thinks cheating is right. Know-it-all, absolutely not. Optimist maybe. Edited April 20, 201610 yr by ShedEnder91
April 20, 201610 yr Shedender - food for thought for you. If we play against Leicester how we played against City, and they turn us over 3-0 for example. Would you see that as throwing the game or just a poor Chelsea performance outplayed by a good Leicester performance? I'm not trying to be confrontational but just interested to see what you consider to be throwing the game or not?

I'd see that as just another poor performance probably, but that's not the extent of what people have suggested now is it? The person who started this whole discussion has literally said it's our duty to let Leicester win the title. Truth is I expect Spurs to beat us (sadly) but I could see us getting something against Leicester in their current state. If we lose both having gone for it honestly, I really don't care too much.
April 20, 201610 yr That's fair enough - to be honest I haven't read all the way through, was just interested to see what you (and others if they want to answer too) would see as deliberately throwing a game. Thanks for the reply though.

April 20, 201610 yr As much as I hope if Leicester need to beat us they do under no circumstances should a football team throw a match. Rivalry or not it's immorally wrong and the players on the pitch have a duty to try to get the win in every game. I do however forsee players already been on holiday in their minds and maybe one or two youth players getting a game so in terms of putting out whatever side the manager wants I do agree with.
April 20, 201610 yr I'd see that as just another poor performance probably, but that's not the extent of what people have suggested now is it? Their current state being top of the league, unbeaten in 8 with a fresh Vardy to face by the time we play them?
April 20, 201610 yr Their current state being top of the league, unbeaten in 8 with a fresh Vardy to face by the time we play them? Those are absolutely true stats, but so is the fact that 4 of their last 7 have been 1-0 wins, they've drawn at home to West Ham and West Brom and purely from my own perspective they look a little wobbly. Of course that's just my view but they don't look quite where they were earlier in the season and winning tight games is the mark of champions.
April 20, 201610 yr I'm sorry, but I just can't accept that. How far would you take this? For example, let's take a look at 2014. Liverpool were really flying that year, and to be perfectly honest, I think they deserved the title more than City that year. Even so, once I knew that we had no realistic chance of winning the league (after the Sunderland match), I was desperate for City to win the title. Why? Because I can't stand the Bin Dippers, that's why (is there a Chelsea fan who doesn't dislike Liverpool?). Luckily, we were placed in a position where we could shatter their chances by winning at Anfield, and we deservedly did so. We went there and executed our plan to perfection. And with a little help from Slippy G, we got the win... However, what if the circumstances had been different? What if we'd been playing City at that stage of the season? Knowing that defeating City would all but give Liverpool the title, would it be acceptable for our players to give their all? In my opinion...no! We couldn't miss out on the top 4 and our title charge was over (even beating Liverpool didn't help us). So, yes, I think if we'd have been in that position we should have let City beat us to stop Liverpool from winning the title. Basically, I think in a position like that, I would be encouraging the players (even if I was their manager) to throw the match... If you'd rather Liverpool win the title than throw a match then fair enough. All I can say is...you know absolutely nothing about fan rivalry (or at least have never been caught up in it). Really? You attended matches with me for over 40yrs before I stopped going? I'm well aware of fan rivalry and would like Leicester to win it as much as the next Chelsea fan. We though have the opportunity to beat both of the main teams in the race and should try our best against both of them. Whoever wins the league will be the best team over a 38 game season and will be like ourselves last year be justified Champions. We are Chelsea fans and many like myself have seen more than our fair share of disappointments, we might be entering a period were they are to become the norm, who can tell what the future will bring? Even if we don't win anything again in my lifetime I at least want to know the team have tried to win every game even if we aren't ultimately good enough. Yes it hurts when rivals are in the ascendancy, and Spurs winning the title will hurt me just as much as yourself, it would hurt me more though if we were found to deliberatly throw a game. April 20, 201610 yr Look, evidently you don't care about fan rivalry. I (and many others) do. It's as simple as that, really. I have a feeling that with the players, trying (not necessarily consciously) to give the title to one club or another is due more to personal friendships/rivalries with individuals at the opponent clubs than about fan rivalries. For example, Argentina and Brazil have a huge hostile rivalry, but Neymar publicly supported Argentina in the World Cup final because of his personal friendships. No clue what relationships our players have with those at Tottenham and Leicester.
April 20, 201610 yr well im sick to death of the leicester fairy tale already and would love it if chelsea f**k them up on the last day, claudio is a great guy but so are plenty others
April 20, 201610 yr Author well im sick to death of the leicester fairy tale already and would love it if chelsea f**k them up on the last day, claudio is a great guy but so are plenty others Seriously? You'd rather Spuds and Pochettino be crowned champions over Leicester and Ranieri? I'm sorry, but as a Chelsea fan, I just don't understand that line of thinking.
April 20, 201610 yr Not to worry, we wont stop either of them with the spineless dollops we currently have. They've both probably mentally banked us as a win.
April 20, 201610 yr Knowing this bunch of dickheads we'll probably get stomped by United and Spurs and decide to go at it full throttle against Leicester

April 20, 201610 yr plus the massive f**k off it would be to arsenal, they would never get over it !!
