What the hell did I just read above.

So we are heavily linked with lukaku with him being out no.1 target despite the mentally unstable person saying conte will never accept him as no.1.

we get gazumped and he comes out of hiding. What a troll!!!!

Take the L like a man, don't be salty about it

And yet he was conte's main target.

If that was true then thankfully we were gazumped. Im not convinced he was, i know the media reported it but you were on Talk Chelsea in 2015 no? You must remember WHS reporting we cut a deal with Yokohoma yet the media for months after saying we were still negotiating with Turkish airlines.

You complete fool, my argument with you was that you kept sending me 'love letters' and then GRASSED me up to the mods because I highlighted your instability. I said previously that I was NOT a fan of Lukaku. Get a grip son.

BTW, you harboring that grudge and then like a child basically saying "look I'm right" only further demonstrates your mental instability. Pacquiao, f**k off son, and grass me up to the mods again, I don't give a sh1t. I gave up playing your childish games when I was in Infant school, it is evident you didn't progress further than that level of education.

You got a bad memory :laugh2:

If that money were to go towards say Aubemyang or Belletti then I'd be delighted, trouble is I have not seen anything to suggest we are in for anyone like that.

You'd like to think if we bid that for Lukaku then we can for a better striker but who knows

I agree, bring him out of retirement. Worth whatever we pay

I do remember that. Maybe. But too much smoke without fire thing.

My take on things.

Firstly, criminal negligence that we didn't insert a buy-back clause when we sold Lukaku, especially after the seasons he'd had at West Brom and Everton. This isn't me being wise after the event. I've never understood the criticism he gets. He's not perfect but he's a damn sight better than most and it's patently obvious he was Conte's first choice so that should tell us all we need to know. People question his attitude. Really? He could have sat on the bench at Chelsea and bided his time and picked up a fat pay cheque, instead he chose to back himself and go and get games at a smaller club. I admire that attitude, personally. It shows ambition. It shows a desire to fulfill his potential. It shows a desire to graft.

What now? Morata? Overrated from what I have seen. I've only seen this Belotti fella on youtube videos but they are mightily impressive. He looks more likely than Morata to become a truly elite striker, in my opinion. Sure, people can say it's only youtube and you're only watching his best bits, rather than the times he fell over the ball or missed an open goal, but there are quite a lot of best bits considering he's only 23 and he plays for a smaller team. Those saying he's only had 1 good season need to consider he's played over 70 games for Torino and his ratio is better than 1 in 2. He played 36 games the season before last and scored 12. If he hadn't performed well he wouldn't have been their front-line striker the following season but he was and he scored 28 in 38 games, which is pretty phenomenal. He's had 3 seasons in Serie A, scoring 6, 12 and 28 respectively. He's got better every season, which is what you want from a young striker, it shows he's developing. Rather than say he's had one good season it would be more accurate to say last season was his breakthrough season, and that's something most good players have, a steady progression and then bang, they break through. Sure, we may not be able to afford him but given the choice I'd take him above everybody from what I've seen. He's just got something. It's evident from the videos. He plays with a lot of heart. I think he'd fit Chelsea quite nicely.

Lukaku? I rate him but I'm not too bothered, so long as we bring in a top-drawer striker. The world doesn't begin and end with Romelu Lukaku. I rate him but there are obvious flaws which have always left me slightly unconvinced, namely his lack of vision. People talk about his first touch but his biggest weakness is his vision in my opinion. His football brain, it's not the best, but obviously he'll compensate for that with goals, pace and brute strength. There was just something about his move to Chelsea, it just felt wrong, whether that was because he was trying to recreate something or because we were trying to reincarnate Drogba, it just felt to me like it was ill-fated and I can easily come to terms with the fact it hasn't happened. Utd will be strong next season, they'll be our main challengers next season, they've bought well and Jose always does well in his second season but we've got a pretty good manager and I'm confident the board will want to redeem themselves to everyone by buying a stellar name.

Lukaku will thrill and frustrate in equal measure I think. Suarez nearly won the league single-handedly for the dippers. Romelu Lukaku isn't on that level. He'll never play for Barca or Real. He has now reached his ceiling and we'll see if he's able to stay there. What's not in doubt is with him in your team, you're not going to be playing the most technical football, or the most precise, not that that's necessarily a bad thing, it's just the way it is. That's partly why I had my doubts about buying him.

If we don't get a striker then undoubtedly we have problems but I can't really believe the board will allow that, but perhaps I'm naive. Arsenal have upgraded up front to the tune of £50m. Liverpool have Firmino who's already a top player and will only get better. Spurs have Kane, City have Jesus and Aguero and Utd have Lukaku, Rashford and Martial. The board will know they have to act and I'm sure they will, or perhaps a truce will be called between Conte and Costa for one more season, although I doubt that particular scenario has any legs. Personally I'll be glad to see Costa leave. Just had enough of the guy.

If we get Belotti and Llorente as back-up we'll be in very good shape.

I've scouted him on the youtube vids and I say make that bid.

Another fantastic post, Davey. Completely agree with everything you've said and I'm surprised more people aren't wishing for Belotti over Morata. As you say, there's just something about him that screams "elite striker", a lot more so than Morata. Apart from his dribbling, link up play, positioning, creating space for other teammates, aerial prowess and of course very good finishing, there's just this never say die attitude about his game that I love. He chases down every ball and never gives up on any opportunity. It's something Costa at his best is quite good at and essential to our formation, something we wouldn't have gotten from Lukaku who can be lazy at times on the pitch. It's something I don't think we'll get from Morata either. I sincerely hope we make the bid for him. Don't pay the 88m being quoted but we can make up for it in add ons and promise Torino a few loan deals with some of our youngsters. Maybe that'll do the trick. Hopefully Conte fancies him over Morata.

No thread is worth reading without your take, Davey. Personally, I think the news about the possible reconciliation between Costa and Conte are planted by the club to let Atletico know that we're in no rush and are willing to wait for the acceptable fee.

I agree on Belotti, by the way, I just have a good feeling about him, he's got the speed, physicality and looks a scrappy bar steward that seems the right fit for the league.

Nice one Davey but there's just one point that I cannot agree with you which is the Board sanctioning a purchase of a stellar name striker. Note that a formal bid was only lodged for Lukaku AFTER Man Utd lodged theirs and there were a good few months when they could have tied up everything instead of trying to wheel and deal to save a few more pennies and allow Utd to swoop in and close the deal.  If the Board were hesitant to commit 75 million pounds to buy their first choice striker, why would they pay a larger sum which is 87 million pounds to trigger Belotti's transfer release clause? Torino is adamant that belotti will not be sold for anything less than that and they are certainly under no financial pressure to sell.

I fear the likes of Batshuayi and Llronte will be leading the line come the charity shield match. We have usurped Arsenal as the penny pinching club.

Haven't really followed him, is he in the mold of a Suarez type striker ?

I think if you were to compare him to any top striker in the world today, it would definitely be Suarez. He's been compared a lot to Christian Vieri at Inter back in the day and I think those comparisons are bang on. Love everything about his game and his seems to be improving every season.

Here, watch this clip of his 2016/17 season. Gives you a decent idea of what he's like.
