Piazon moaning about the loan system

Featured Replies

While I have sympathy for our youngsters who get loaned out year after year, it is also up to them to make a big impact at another club to show why they deserve a chance at chelsea...Piazon has done very little from what I'm aware over the years so really can have no complaints, especially now where we clearly are starting to give youth a bit more of a role..slagging us off to the media is hardly going to improve his chances

Actually I agree with him and have a lot of sympathy for him. If you changed employer that often it would be difficult to settle, awkward to displace trusted employees, hard to know exactly what exactly expected of you, all the while having no chance to develop your own style...

Sounds sh*t to me.

Besides it clearly doesn't work, who was the last player to graduate this system? You can't have Cortois as he was already a full international and spent two years at one club.

Certainly not saying it's easy, but if you're not performing like Piazon, then you can't expect any favours...fact he is now at Fulham on loan says a lot..the loanees should see cause for hope now with Aina and Loftus-Cheek promoted from academy, after all his loans Chalobah is in our first team squad now, although yet to make a debut...Traore, while surprisingly sent on loan to Ajax, is clearly highly rated too

I understand his frustrations, don't understand why these sorts of players aren't just cut loose and sold on.

I can't see a development strategy in loaning someone to Holland, Germany and then Championship clubs.

Well hang on a sec, Piazon impressed in the same league and club that Traore did.

Everything he said is spot on too.

Just sell him.

It's that simple, we all know he isn't going to make it here so why continue the pointless loan saga. Same goes with the vast majority of the 38. Bring in some cash and spend it on a player who will make it.

If memory serves me right, he had a good few months at Vitesse and then disappeared...clearly been taking lessons from Oscar

He had a great first half of the season and a poor second half, it was a similar situation to Traore who had a poor first half and a great second half. Both had similar goals and assists too despite Traore playing 10+ more games.

Recent memory bias went against Piazon unfortunately, if things were reversed we would be talking about Piazon being a promising youth and Traore failing to live up to expectations.

This is telling us nothing that most of us don't already know - that our record of looking to bring through youth and choosing decent loan moves for them is frankly garbage.

The list of players out on loan is pretty embarrassing. That's not to say we aren't providing a service in keeping players in some kind of employment in the hope they eventually make it somewhere - it's just very unlikely to be at Chelsea. Very frustrating for all, none more so than the players themselves. I guess the reason the club keep loaning such players out time and again is two-fold. No other club is willing to shell out decent money on them and we are probably hoping they will continue to improve and then command a decent transfer fee at some point.

Does make you wonder if our poor record of progressing young players could hinder our chances of picking them up in the future? If I had a young teenage son who was being courted by club academy's I don't think I would go anywhere near Chelsea. That said money talks and you can imagine the youngsters and the parents alike seeing the pound note signs and hearing about the likes of RLC on obscene amounts of money before they got anywhere near the first team.

I am glad he has came out and said something, we need to give them a chance and not hold half the worlds youngsters without a plan to use any of them.

Maybe if the grumble had come from someone who deserves an opportunity I'd treat their opinion with a bit more respect...but in piazon's case, it just sounds like sour grapes

None of the kids have become a top level player and it's all Chelsea fault, they swear.

One day maybe someone will take a long hard look at themselves.

And given the staggering number of supposedly promising youngsters that we've churned through our system over the last decade, that really says something about either the quality of our scouting or the quality of our coaching.

Instead we've been churning out more and more PL quality players. Instead of only Carlton Cole there is Sinclair, Bertrand, Van Aanholt, Borini etc. so the quality has improved.

Churning out a constant stream of Chelsea level players is a pipe dream.

Bertrand should be our LB right now so i'll give you that, but but I can't help but wonder whether our scouts and coaches would be better served focusing on the development of the few who actually could make it, this entire system just seems pointless and is probably doing more harm than good to most of these young lads. I also struggle to believe we really make much if any profit out of this factory.

They system isn't really to help the players though, we all know because we cant compete with the revenue clubs like Arsenal, City, United and now Liverpool are bringing in with attendances we had to make our money elsewhere.

We did that by stock piling talent in the hope of selling for profit.

I wonder how much profit we've actually made though, sure we sell some of them on for a tidy profit, but a lot of them we end up releasing them for free. And it's not just the transfer fee, there's the wages, the signing on fee, agent's fee, coaching costs, medical costs, food, kits, transporting them around, and so on. Would be a good idea for a WAGNH article.

For the sake of argument the current Juventus squad only has 2 'club grown' players (Marchisio and a reserve GK). Most of the youth at United won't make it and will eventually will be moved on, etc etc.

Probably but at least United would have given them a fair crack at making it in their team.

.....well until this season anyway.

They did, but in doing so what did they achieve under Moyes and LVG? Some of their fans would argue 3 years of mediocrity? It's only now that they've spent money on proven quality that they look capable of challenging for the title once again.

I don't think you can blame any of that on the youth as they were often the standout players in an otherwise drab 3 year period.

My thoughts exactly. Did you ever seen how many youth players Jose has stated he has broken into first team squad. Some of the examples he said were a stretch, to be kind.
