Anybody got a second team you support not in a top division?

I think the MLS is a top division.

Don't know about anyone else ?

Jokes, jokes. Yes, it's the top division in the US. It was created as part of the deal to bring the 94 World Cup to the United States. It's the longest lived professional league in US history.

Was wondering about this . . . as an American I find it crazy how many teams there are who move up and down between leagues.  Leagues here are always pretty fixed at all levels.

Does anyone know someone or ever themselves played at the lower levels of the system?  The lower level leagues (I'm talking way below the National League) seem to be just teams where a bunch of guys from some small town or something got together and decided to play football together and their home ground is some local public park with a field.

I'm sort of curious as to how things work out at the bottom. . . If you are relegated out of one of these bottom leagues what happens to your team?  Do you just not get to play anymore?  Furthermore where do the new teams come from?  Do new teams essentially apply to be a part of their local league and replace some of the relegated teams.  Or is it just a case where no one really gets relegated anymore and they just take however many teams are interested in playing within a certain geographic area?

The lower or Non League System is big across Great Britain.

There can be a massive difference in playing standards and facilities in the same League or area.

It is often called Grass Roots Football. That is not in any way, meant to be a demeaning term. I have often enjoyed watching Non League games much more than games at the higher level.

The crowd ‘banter’ or ‘exchanges’  can at times be cutting ,but also it can be very funny😀

At at times I mean between the crowd and players on the field of play😀

I did see Russell Howard joke once that the point of a football game was that you could go to this game and shout whatever you wanted to at an adult and he couldn't do anything about it.

Carlisle Utd 1-0 Barrow.

Jon Mellish earned Carlisle victory over Barrow in the first Cumbrian derby to be played in the Football League for 56 years.

Mellish's neat headed finish midway through the first half put the hosts ahead and they held on after Aaron Hayden's moment of madness left them playing with 10 men for the final 35 minutes.

United took the lead when Gime Toure crossed for an unmarked Mellish to nod in his first goal of the season.

But 10 minutes into the second half Hayden was dismissed after he lashed a leg out at James Jones as the pair tangled as a corner delivery came in.

Barrow struggled to make the one-man advantage count as Carlisle defended well.

Their one real chance was spurned when Scott Quigley burst clean through only to have his powerful effort saved by Paul Farman.

Carlisle held on to make it two victories from two home games while Barrow continue to wait for a first victory since their return to the league ranks following a 46-year absence.

My local non-league team is Welling United and I try to go and see them a couple of times a season. On Saturday they played away at Slough Town and the score was 4-4. Sounds an incredible game.

Welling United has two great bars and there is an excellent micro-pub about 200 yards away.

We moved to Torquay, Devon last year and we’re hoping to get to watch a few Torquay United games this year. Obviously, due to COVID we haven’t been able to but am excited that Torquay are top of the league! 😃

Will always be Greenock Morton for me. The only other team I will have genuine delight when they win.

Ironically Morton have only played in Europe once, the ok’ Fairs Cup which coincidentally was against Chelsea.

De Twaalfde Man - Greenock Morton FC

Not a bad shout, I keep an eye on their results myself. 🍻

Thank you.

I’ve paid £12 to watch the game against Raith today. This should be interesting. Also the Renfrewshire Derby on Wednesday. It will be strange to see it on television with no fans.

I honestly love Cappielow. It’s such an old run down stadium with a magnificent charm and history. It’s excellent.

Used to walk to Cappielow as a youngster at times. Just a couple of miles from my home.

Mayos: All the best to Morton v St Mirren on Wed night.

I bet we get Carlisle away in the 3rd round when fans can’t go! It’s the old mans dream tie! Sod’s law and all. Probably get Portsmouth away in the 4th round and rob me of my favourite away day too.
