Id play Kalou instead of Sheva , Essien at right back , leave Joey where he is and Bridge ahead of Ashley and Makka ahead of Mikel .

Hopefully the Bolton game wont throw up any injuries .

Anfield will be difficult , but its not the mecca is used to be .

Very important we dont let them dictate the first 20 mins , this is a fantastic opportunity for us to achieve a massive result and we need to limit their chances and not defend too deep .

Maka in for sure. Without question. Definitely Bridge over Cole. The Champion's League is Sheva's competition, but not at this form.. So I would start him I guess, but substitute for Kalou sooner than today, if he plays like this again. I agree about Essien for RB, he is massive in that position. I guess Ballack should be included back in the team... But I would be okay if Mikel was played, as long as Makelele doesn't lose his spot.

I'd give serious consideration to reverting to our old 4-3-3. Drop Shevchenko for a pacey winger - probably Kalou, but I'd pick Robben to start if he is available even knowing he will not have the fitness for 90 minutes. This is a situation taylor made for that system: The opposition will be coming at us needing goals, so the extra pace will enable us to better counterattack. We might have managed it tonight, but our usual starting lineup with the diamond doesn't catch team on the break very often. We were playing this 4-3-3 for the last 15 minutes, and I think there is a strong chance we'll start with it at Anfield.

It is a tight call between Makelele and Mikel. I think Mikel will get the start because he is better in the air. I think that will be significant for the 2nd leg. Essien and Ballack will both play (if fit).

For me:

				Cech
Essien Terry Carvalho Cole
			Mikel
   Ballack Lampard
Cole Robben (Kalou)
		  Drogba

I think that Sheva works really hard. Sure, he doesn't score loads of goals but he still contributes to the team by running all over the pitch and making space for Drogba and other players.

Kalou might feel more of a threat forward but I'd prefer to have him start on the bench and then throw him in sometime in the 2nd half.

Ferreira played well as RB and I wouldn't mind letting him play in the next game.

I think the entire teams felt solid against Pool so I'm not sure that I would make too many changes. Ballack might be back and Essien will return and I guess that we have to play atleast Essien. Putting someone like him on the bench is close to madness. But who to take out? Let's face it Essien is a midfielder and not a defender. He can play as RB but why waste him there? But if we will play him on the midfield then we have to take away Lampard, Cole, Maka or Mikel. Who wanna make that decision?

We could play 4-5-1 with Essien wide in midfield and Drogba alone up front. A bit more defencive style and that might be good playing at Anfield. But it still doesn't feel right.

As for playing Cole or Bridge I think it's a difficult choice. Cole was good enough against Pool and I'm not so keen on changing alot in the defence for a 2nd leg game.

So I have no clue how we should play or what players should be on the pitch. I'll leave that to JM. He knows what to do icon_wink.gif

Bench - Carlo, Boularouhz, Bridge, Ballack, Kalou, SWP, Sheva.

Based on today's performance, Ferreira and Mikel don't deserve to be dropped, and Essien must be back in. So I would drop Sheva (who was poor today) and push Joe Cole up front (but slightly behind) Drogs.

That still leaves us with some serious firepower on the bench if a goal is needed.

I wasn't suggesting dropping Sheva for effort or performance. Just picking somebody else with more speed who would be better suited to playing counterattacking football, which is what we'll be doing at Anfield unless we go 2-0 down. Lets face it, Sheva's pace hasn't exactly been causing nightmares for defenders this season.

Given the situation - Liverpool will be attacking because they must score two goals - I think speed, counterattack and our old 4-3-3 are the way to go. There will be space in behind them. Robben to start. He will not last 90 minutes, but he is more a threat on a counterattack than anyone.

Switch PF to Essien and Ballack in for Maka if he's not still injured. I think Mikel can handle the DM role.

I would like to see Chelsea in attacking formation at Anfield right from the start. If we get that one away goal we should be through. If liverpool does the miracle of scoring 3 goals against chelsea they deserve to win the whole league.

He runs all over the pitch alright but I could do that.

He has nothing in his locker but his legend in my opinion.

He looks heavy legged and over-anxious.

I suspect Mourinho will drop Joe in favour of Ballack but I would like to see them both play with Shevchenko in the stands.

I would go for:

Cech

Paulo - EDIT: ESSIEN!

JT

Riccy

A. Cole

MAKA

Lamps

Ballack

J Cole

Sheva

Drogba

1. Cashley offers little going for us going forward, and was infact, wasteful last night, but negated the threat of Stevie Me quite well.

2. Sheva will be more useful in possession than Kalou. I would bring the tricky little youngster on in the second half if needed.

3. Maka has to play in this one.

EDIT: BISON at RB.

Jesus, how could i forget him!

That's all very well, Elliot, but I'm glad I'm leaving the headache of picking Mikel and/or ESSIEN instead of any of those you mention.

There are now 6 (not even considering Diarra here) top central midfielders to 4 spots. drool.gif

EDIT: icon_lol.gif Yes, how could you forget him !

At times last night I was cringing any time Sheva went near the ball. He was terrible. I don't care how much running someone does, running alone does not contribute much to a team. It was like playing with 10 men for the large part and I think we could have another Kezman scenario here - one season and then bye bye.
