Posted August 14, 20204 yr Is kicking Barca's arse as badly as they did Chelsea's. Just not the team you want to see on the other side when the brackets come out. Edited August 15, 20204 yr by Mod Stark Moved to General Football Forum
August 14, 20204 yr This puts into context last week's game. We actually did well considering the team we had out there, especially before the two late goals. Gives me confidence we can actually have a good run at next year with a full team, every team bar Bayern are looking beatable.
August 14, 20204 yr There must have been a lot of pus**es in Barca throughout the years but the way Messi is walking down the pitch upsets me every time. Few moments today from certain angles of the camera, mostly on the level of the grass.... this man is so indifferent. Can't stand him. And don't start with the 'Ronaldo does the same thing' nonsense, Ronaldo is not playing on position that requires so much running and covering. Messi is just unbearable. August 15, 20204 yr Some score that one. 8-2 to Bayern... Not the most insightful comment I fully admit? Edited August 15, 20204 yr by erskblue

I get much Schadenfreude from Barcelona's defeat, and it cheered me up immensely comparing it to our defeat, at least it wasn't as bad. However, I fear you may be too optimistic, @Argo. Ours was still a bad defeat, or 2 defeats even (7-1 on aggregate), and it could have been much worse. We never even look like we could pull off a draw, let alone a win. And the other teams may look beatablbe, it's not necessarily by us. Hopefully we will sign 2 or 3 players more, and with Zyech and Werner they need to settle into the team. And if we won't sign more, we still have that dreadful defense. Our youngsters have gained experience, but they have not (yet?) become worldbeaters. So give it a few years, then I will share your sunny outlook. Then again, I even think we will be bullied in a friendly against Little Whingeing United, so I'm not the most optimistic person out there
August 15, 20204 yr Bayern will win the CL, and I've been of that position since I saw them smash us in the first leg in February. Barcelona are finished. They need a serious rebuild.
August 15, 20204 yr The brilliance of Messi has hidden how bad Barca are in recent years. They have wasted enormous amounts of money on failed transfers, basically every major transfer since the window when Suarez joined them in 2014 was a flop. As a result their squad has gotten older and older. They need Bartomeu to leave, they need a top level manager with authority to make changes, and they need to offload a lot of players.

We got toyed with by Bayern but we competed well with the two best teams after them (City and Liverpool) every time we faced them, if we bring those performances to a clash with current level PSG/Barca/Dortmund/Real/Juve I don't see it as an impossible job, quite the opposite. Bayern will take some beating though, in many ways I hope we get them in the group so if we go through, we're guarenteed to avoid the best three teams in the tournament in the last 16.

Should we get Bayern in the group, we can assume they will win it. Then we'd better have our act together before December to get 2nd spot, or else we really don't have to worry about who we'll draw next in the CL, only who we'll play on a Thursday.

August 15, 20204 yr Koeman and Pochettino are being linked to the Barca job. Poch might do well there, I could see him building a competitive side and think after some time out he may cast-out his preference for Real Madrid.

They need a serious rebuild. I have been saying it since the group stages after seeing them destroy every team they faced. When it was announced we would face them in the last 16, I said it doesn't get anymore difficult than that. This is why I didn't get too annoyed by how convincingly they beat us, I already knew how much better they were than us. I don't know why, but people had their eyes on Liverpool, City and Barcelona ahead of Bayern. The only way I see Bayern losing now is if they play below par and the opposition play the game of their lives against them. They have scored 39 goals in the Champions League this season so far, the record is 45. They could break that record without even having to play two legs in the Quarter Finals and Semi Finals.
