Tempting but unfortunately I won't be able to go.

Have you seen the latest RSEA badge? It's a cracker. I've ordered a few.

Yep, placed my order earlier today. This year’s badge is definitely one of the best.

Received the latest badge this morning. It's beautiful. Now have every badge from 2009 to 2021. Just missing those from 2007 and 2008. The earlier badges are like gold dust.

Sad news

Linfield FC records with sadness the passing of Sgt John McNaughton.

Johnny Jamison has paid the following tribute.

“ I was very sorry to learn of the passing of Chelsea Pensioner, Sgt. John McNaughton. John visited Windsor Park in 2011 for the Linfield v Rangers pre season friendly game. John and his friend and fellow Chelsea pensioner, the late Sam Cameron enjoyed their day immensely.

John was only 15 when he landed in Normandy on D Day in June 1944. His stories of great bravery and courage have been an inspiration to us all.

John always kept up to date with news of his beloved Glasgow Rangers and Linfield Football Clubs. He would check their results each week and follow their progress and take great delight in their winning 55 league titles each last season.

My thoughts and prayers go to John's Family, friends and comrades at the Royal Chelsea Hospital. God bless, my friend.”

The deepest sympathy of everyone at Linfield FC is extended to the family circle at this sad time.

Walter Smith: Former Rangers, Everton and Scotland manager dies at age 73 - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/56381264

A Rangers legend. R.I.P Sir Walter. Thank you for all the great memories. It's going to be an emotional night at Ibrox tomorrow when Rangers play Aberdeen.

So many great tributes from managers, fans, players etc to a footballing great. If I may add my own.

Back in the late eighties I was at Earl's Court Station on the way to a game at the Bridge. On the platform was Walter, he was on the way to the match. Took time to talk to Chelsea fans and the fans of who ever we were playing that day. So long ago, I can't remember the opposition. Says a lot about the man that he took time to speak to us.

If losing Walter wasn't bad, Rangers also lost one of its greatest strikers, Jimmy Millar today.

My post above.

Apologies, it is inaccurate that Jimmy Millar passed away. Apologies for posting that. I had read on a couple of social media groups that Jimmy had died. I should have checked more reliable sources.

There are suggestions going around about re-naming the Copland Road Stand the Walter Smith Stand. That would be a wonderful tribute.

It was lovely that Walter was able to see Rangers winning a 55th title.

So An impeccably observed minute's silence before the game but wouldn't expect anything else. On the 73rd minute a minute's applause for the great man. A 2-2 draw. A win would have been nice but given that the 'Gers were 2-0 after two soft goals I shouldn't grumble too much. Scrappy in places and not firing on all cylinders. Still top of the league.

I watched the game on Rangers TV which meant I didn't have to listen to the drivel from the likes of Andy Walker. And the host on Rangers TV is the lovely Emma Dodds.

This wonderful banner was displayed in the Broomloan Road Stand before the game. Class.

May be an image of crowd and stadium

A great result for Rangers today and six great goals including a hat-trick for Sakala. The pass from the Ulster Pirlo for Sakala's third was superb. Rangers first goal was a great strike from their captain and right-back James Tavernier. So that's three brilliant goals from right-backs this season. James second goal and Tavernier's are similar. Good weekend for Rangers with Hearts losing and Celtic drawing.

Apologies for the delay, I’ve had all sorts going on lately, but still think this tribute from Linfield is worth posting:

Sad news of passing of Rangers legend Walter Smith OBE

Linfield Football Club wishes to convey our deepest condolences to our friends at Rangers Football Club on the sad passing of their legendary former Manager Walter Smith OBE. Walter was someone who was held in the highest regard at Linfield and we would express our deepest sympathy to his family and to everyone at Rangers FC.

Linfield Chairman Roy McGivern stated:

"I was devastated to hear the news this morning of the sad passing of former Rangers Manager Walter Smith OBE. He was such a legendary figure at the club and someone who always offered a very warm welcome to myself and other club personnel who visited Ibrox Park. His passing will leave a huge void at Rangers and, on behalf of everyone at Linfield, I would pass on our deepest sympathy to Walter's family and to all our friends at Rangers FC."

Linfield manager David Healy added

“I’ve just heard the devastating news regarding Walter. I’m absolutely heart broken with the news of his sad passing.

I grew up idolising Walter and Rangers Football club from no age. To get the chance to not only play for the famous Glasgow Rangers but to have Walter as my manager is something now I can look back on with great pride. He was an incredible manager and an even better person with the aura of a true champion. Walter gave me my childhood dream and opportunity and I’ll be forever grateful.

A sad day for football and Rangers football club”.

Linfield Honorary Vice-President and former Vice-chairman Billy Kennedy also expressed his deep sadness at the passing of former Rangers manager Walter Smith OBE.

”Walter was not only a football icon, but an absolute gentleman and a man of the highest integrity.

I had the pleasure of meeting and chatting with him on my frequent visits to Ibrox Park for Rangers games over recent years where he was always accompanied by his loving wife Ethel. Walter was always the same - warm, self-effacing and with an expert knowledge of football. When Walter spoke on football, you listened.

When Rangers completed the 'Nine-In-a-Row' League triumph under Walter in the 1990s, I was sent to Glasgow by the News Letter to interview him in his office at Ibrox. It was a privilege of a newspaper assignment for me, as a Rangers fan, and I found Walter on that occasion straight forward, plain-speaking, with a love and an absolute passion for the great club he was managing.

My sincere condolences are extended to Walter's grieving family - wife Ethel and sons Steven and Neil, who I also got to know in his role with Rangers Media.”
