When they took over the club really was under threat. It was operating under a license that would not have been renewed post 1/6 of that year. There wasn’t any money in bank accounts that had all been frozen indeed RA had to inject capital past his sanction date.

As for it not being under duress I think that is where so many haven’t worked through the consequences because it really was under threat and as for assets the club had effectively become an asset of HM Government who because of the anti RA rhetoric would have had no issues about allowing the club to be would up after all none of the proceeds of sale or indeed distribution from insolvency would have ended up in the public purse.

Boehly decided that he did not need three people at the club who had been so successful at running it — Bruce Buck, Marina Granovskaia and Petr Cech. Whether he got rid of them or they left of their own volition, at that point he has to surround himself with football people.

It will clearly take some time for Boehly to discover that it’s not as simple as he thought, that recruitment is not just about spending large amounts of money and that recruitment is also the most impor

As soon as it was bought the club wasn't under duress. Sanctions were lifted. The club was able to continue exactly as it was before sanctions. . Why not wait and take stock for a season ( like Roman did) before making changes ? Especially as those who support the new regime, and even the new owners now admit , they made " mistakes" in the first year.

We didn't need any " learning on the job" as if these billionaire owners were really spotty teenage apprentices on a work opportunities project where mistakes are inevitable but of no consequence because there are experienced managers overseeing everything.

If the Ukraine war, and the Salisbury poisonings hadn't happened, everyone would have been in uproar if Roman had suddenly sacked everyone, appointed himself SD, spent millions, said he was trying something " different" told us to be patient, while plunging the club way down the table .

The idea that the media called Abramovich 'incompetent' is just dumb.

Almost overnight we became the most hated club in England because of the new management's competence. We killed the media's "invincible" golden goose in the first season and Mourinho sealed the deal 12 months later. We were told we were boring, that we were "financially doping", and FFP and restrictions on loans were introduced because of us.

At no point did anyone call Chelsea incompetent, because they feared the exact opposite.

Really disappointing seeing the standard of fan choosing to support Chelsea in recent years dip so much. Overseas fans used to follow us because of a love for the club and culture, now we get the likes of you who picked a team on Fifa 24 and stuck with it. Such a shame.

When RA took over from Ken Bates in 2003 the club were a game away from administration, Ken Bates has always denied that but the EuroBond needed repaying that’s a fact.In addition the loan from MH was called in.

Hhhmmm. A game away from administration? That's a bold statement. Where did you get that information from?

KB has never, to the best of my knowledge, ever wavered from the assertion that the club were working on the bond being re-structured / re-financed. He was saying that before Roman even appeared on the scene.

So other than the made up one without a source "how chelsea ruined football" which of these are negative against Roman's ownership? This is just newspapers reporting the news of a takeover lmao

Please stop embarrassing yourself, you give the good American fans like Sconnie a bad rep.

We had 2 or 3 buyers/investors lined up before Roman if I remember correctly, Bernie Ecclestone from F1 had a group ready to throw loads of money at us for example.

A little fact finding mission as @Clown Lake either doesn't know what criticism and incompetency is or simply doesn't know how to open a web page.

Completely factual article, no criticism.

FSA looks into Chelsea takeover https://www.theguardian.com/football/2003/jul/24/newsstory.sport4#:~:text=FSA%20looks%20into%20Chelsea%20takeover

"the Financial Services Authority, revealed it was looking into the ownership of Chelsea Village after been tipped off that details of shareholdings before the takeover could have been wrong. the statement added that the takeover panel understood the enquiries were "unconnected to Chelsea Limited," the company set up by Abramovich to buy out chairman Ken Bates. There is no suggestion of wrongdoing by any parties involved in the takeover. "

Factual article about Ken Bates ownership, goes on to say it isn't about Roman.

The Abramovich effect pushes spending on players past £1 billion https://www.theguardian.com/football/2005/jun/08/newsstory.sport2

"Encouragingly, despite the large amount of money going abroad, the net amount of transfer expenditure redistributed by Premiership clubs to the Football League increased by £8m from £32m in 2002-03 to £40m the following season."

Another factual article, which just outlays our spending. Also 2 years after the take over so not relevent to the point that he was under criticism of incompetency straight away. We won 2 titles back to back lmao

English top flight feels Chelsea effect as money rolls in https://timesofmalta.com/article/english-top-flight-feels-chelsea-effect-as-money-rolls-in.87686

"Roman Abramovich's takeover of Chelsea has cost the Russian tycoon £300 million ($549.3 million) in two years and had a distorting effect on English soccer finances, according to consultants Deloitte and Touche. England's Premier League strengthened... The 2004-05 season saw the first tangible returns on Abramovich's investment as Chelsea lifted the League Cup before cantering to their first championship in half a century."

Another article from two years after the take over... Funnily it talks about how Roman's influence has helped strengthen the PL. NEXT.

Tax loophole may have bought Chelsea https://www.theguardian.com/football/2003/jul/09/newsstory.taxavoidance

"Sergei Stepashin, head of Russia's audit chamber, which oversees the acquisition and spending of government money, claims that Abramovich used the loophole to enable his oil company, Sibneft, to avoid paying its dues in 2001. He added that the move was entirely legal, but expressed displeasure at its use."

Russian government upset that Roman legally bought the club. What has this got to do with Chelsea or the ownerships incompetence?

Prospect Magazine essay “Roman Abramovich https://www.prospectmagazine.co.uk/essays/59159/roman-abramovich

"Since his mid-twenties, Abramovich has led a charmed life. Perhaps he has just been lucky. Yet it is also possible that he has a wisdom rare among the very successful - the sense of knowing where to stop. Tycoons such as Bill Gates and Rupert Murdoch continue working 18-hour days even when they have earned more money then they can possibly spend. Perhaps Abramovich is simply ahead of the game. Perhaps he really does want to spend more time with his family - and his pet football club. Is he clever, or just lucky? It is too soon to tell. As I write, he may be about to burst back on the scene as the greatest of all oligarchs, in a Kremlin-approved merger. But one thing seems certain. The trick that Abramovich has learned, and learned well, is that even in the realms of the super-tycoons, a little humility can go a long way."

A hit piece personal essay about Roman's life that goes on to admire the man.

Does anyone else have any idea how we will turn up this season under Enzo?

I'd love us to destroy palace and set our stall out for fast attacking football where almer just does his thing and others all chip in... Think the league is going to be vastly different this year...

Politely. The ‘criticism’ you’re alluding to in these articles is typical media fear-mongering about change to the status quo. Sir Roman saved football and the media hated it that their ‘darlings’ in Fergies Utd & Liverpool (who are beyond any criticism ever for the rest of eternity after certain events were reported on) were under threat. ‘Buying’ success is what’s being frowned upon because it was alien to this country (so long as you ignore Blackburn, Liverpool, Utd, Arsenal & Leeds failed attempt).

At no point is ‘incompetency’ or genuine ridicule being labelled at Sir Romans running of the club because there was nothing other than ‘Chelski’ ‘Dirty Money’ ‘Buying it’ to say.

Those labels were quite rightly levelled at Todd & Clearlake after the takeover due to absolutely decimating the structure of the most successful English club of the last 2 decades upon entering and then falling into obscurity almost immediately due to the repercussion's of those actions.

Will Todd’s plan work long term? I’m surprisingly open to it, I think his heart is in the right place and he’s learned his early lessons and even admitted to his own ‘mistakes’ early on. We’ve now got a clear approach as opposed to the early scattergunning and appear to be sticking to it.

You’re consistent badgering of one respected member (DKW) and also Ukraine Bolt is becoming a bit tedious now. Say something relevant or pipe down with the pathetic attempts at point scoring without ever answering.

The Tomkins Times (TTT) was created in 2009 by Paul Tomkins, originally intended to be just his own paywalled blog on Liverpool FC. The site was designed as a way for Paul to support himself financially due to being unable to do any other form of work due to chronic illness (having been diagnosed with M.E. in the 1990s), and with the income from writing books sporadic and limited. www.tomkinstimes.com/about/

From The Tomkins Times is a f**king fan blog by a Liverpool fans PMSL. Not only that but it was created in 2009, so once again not relevant.

f**king hell, i've met bricks that are more intelligent than you. Give up whilst you're behind.

Mate, go to the other forums you talk about if we're that unbearable.

You'd think every poster laughing at you every time you post would be enough of a realisation to see that you're the problem.

This entire debacle on this thread is because you clearly weren't a Chelsea fan back then and tried to lie about something you can't remember. You were rightfully called out about it by MULTIPLE posters, and now you're embarrassed and lashing out. There's no need to be upset, just take a breather and log back on when you've calmed down and we'll all happily accept your apology and move on.

Have a good weekend bud.
