As soon as I saw we were playing the disaster brothers in defence, I feared we were heading out of the competition.

Weird game as at times we looked quite good going forward but you cannot legislate for the sort of errors Badiashille & Disasi make and when you throw Enzo and Veiga into the mix who were equally bad, along with a nervy keeper, the result was only going one way. You cannot try and play out from the back with these players - they just aren't good enough and in the end we were lucky it wasn't more than 2-0.

Didn't see the match, saw the result. Looked for the lineup when I saw it I understood why. Not mad, we move on.

No loss is good but to take the positive this answers a lot of questions.

The reason Sanchez is still Number 1 is Jorgensen does not have any confidence at all.

Both Disasi & Badiashille should be sold ASAP. What a waste of Squad space they are.

Lavia HAS to start over Enzo at every opportunity he’s fit.

Aside from that the rest of the team appear to be adequate Squad roles.

Have to remember that this was a better Newcastle side than they fielded in the PL at the weekend and a much much much worse Chels team.

Veiga shouldn't be playing in midfield at all. Disasi & Badiashile are just awful, we will always concede with them in the team.

Somehow, I feel that the return of James has made Maresca make weird decisions and playing Veiga in the midfield is a consequence of this. He's rightfully playing James, one of the best RB in the world when fit, but that has led Maresca to move Gusto to the left in the first team, moving Cucurella to the left in the B team, which results in Veiga playing in midfield. It's like he doesn't want to play James - Cucurella in the first team, with Gusto and Veiga as the FBs in the B team, which would make more sense.

i don't agree with this resting players, players can play 2-3 games a week, Gusto should have started at RB, and Noni should have started at RW, IF Marasca is so obsessed with playing any of the three worst CB just play one and pair them with Veiga, playing the 3 stooges together in the conference league is ok because most of the teams are poor, but you wont get away with it against ANY PL team

Agree. We showed no respect to this competition and deservedly went out. City did not care about it, either, but at least they put a decent back line out there. Will always remember what Klopp once said - no matter how much of the starters you rest, the back line must stay together all the time as it keeps a solid base to the entire team. Ferguson used to do this, too.

I truly believe a back line of Gusto Colwill Veiga Cucurella with Cucurella inverting next to Enzo in midfield would have got us through in the end. Even Arsenal with all their injury problems and congested fixtures risked most of their starters away at a Championship side last night.

Simply put we did not give a single f**k about this competition and kind of looked like fools thinking those average defenders would have it easy away at one of the trickiest grounds in the Premier League.

What annoys me is that it gives the press ammunition when we lose without Palmer playing, calling us a one man team.

We had enough to beat Newcastle, but didn't pick the right XI capable of that.

And if we ever get into the CL we won't have the luxury of playing our "B" team as we are doing now in the conference league, the first teamers will have to get used to playing more games.

This outrage is too early. If we win Sunday no one will give a sh*t and if we finish in the Top 4 + Conference League come May this won't even be a memory.

I'm pretty mad at Maresca for yesterday for a variety of reasons, but its also the first time I feel that way and I think like you say he'll learn from it. He's learning on the job, and I'm overall encouraged by the start he's made
