valim
PARIS (Reuters) - Chelsea's Nicolas Anelka is unhappy at being used as a winger by coach Avram Grant and wants to play centre forward next season. Anelka, who missed a penalty in the Champions League final shootout against Manchester United, was quoted by French sports daily L'Equipe on Friday as saying he was not interested in playing as a wide man. "When I came (to Chelsea), I was told I would play in a 4-4-2 system," Anelka said. "I didn't come here to play on the right or on the left. In England, I need to prove my worth as a centre forward." Anelka said he would make his case to the manager next season. "Up to now I didn't say anything because I was a new player coming from Bolton. But from next season I will no longer be a new player -- I will be a Chelsea player," he added. Anelka also said it had been difficult to come on as a late substitute in Wednesday's Champions League final and be asked to take part in the shootout. "I stayed 110 minutes on the bench and suddenly I was asked to play less than a minute after being sent to warm up," he said. "I don't know if it ever happened in a Champions League final, in a game so intense, that a player was sent on without having warmed up." Anelka said he declined the offer to take one of Chelsea's first five penalties.

Modueke
Right, I'm starting to follow the pattern of the week in the forum now. Is this a new game, how much can we slag off all of our strikers week?

heckel
I have to say, it occur to me that Anelka's substitution was, typically, handled appallingly. Still, as ever with the Frency contingent, the press just after a big loss may not be the most suitable medium for such complaints.

dkw
im not overly bothered by what anelka said, its the timing im not happy with. coming out with this days after losing the cup final shows him either as an utter moron or someone who wants a move. dont be surprised to see him leave the club in the near future. sounds to me like hes angling for a transfer already. Blue Sun Tzu
The guy's on £120,000 a week and he refuses to take a penalty? After the most heart-breaking of nights for Chelsea fans he sees fit to mouth off in the press the very next day? Get him out of our club. He ain't a Chelsea player. He never will be. The guy's a mercenary always has been. Only my blue coloured spectacles allowed me to - briefly - think or rather hope otherwise. I'm sick of these ungrateful, selfish, egotistical, disrespectful tossers. Let's hope the rumours surrounding a bid from Tottenham are true. I don't want to see him pull on a Chelsea shirt again. Blue Sun Tzu
Valim I think you are missing my point. This is in relation to his attitude. Compare and contrast his reaction to missing the penalty with that of JT. Is this the reaction of a man who gives a sh*t about Chelsea? No. And just in case anyone was left wondering he proves that he doesn't give a sh*t about the club and the fans by mouthing off to the press. I am sure there are many players who have their beef with the management, the tactics, not being in the first eleven. But they have the good grace to shut the f**k up after such a heart-breaking night.
dkw
wether he feels hes been wronged or not isnt the problem. its the fact he went crying to a french newspaper days after losing the biggest game of chelseas history. how in the hell he thought the fans wouldnt be bothered by that ill never know. hes made a massive pr mistake with this one. loz
Yet Belletti didn't seem to need a good half an hour to play himself into the game - he managed to step up and take a good penalty. Anelka is just trying to make excuses for the fact he missed the penalty rather than just accepting these things happen and trying to focus on putting it out of his mind. Never liked him, never wanted us to sign him and although I acknowledge his opportunities have been limited the chances he has have he hasn't done anything to persuade me otherwise. The majority of his career he has only stood out in average sides, so far he is looking to carry on that tradition. I wouldn't bat an eyelid if we moved him on in the summer as long as we don't do it on the cheap.
charierre
If he doesnt feel upto taking a pen after having been on the field 10 mins clearly he isnt the top class striker needed by a team at the top. A striker has to be prepared to take his chance be it the first kick or the last kick of a match. Fire him off to the spuds as make weight for Berbatov
Mr Chelsea
this mornings rumours saying he could be off rottenham with swp for £25 mil for the pair for me anelka as failed to impress when given the chance, so he's played out of position, he's a proffesional footballer and learn how to adapt kalou did
icecoolguy22
Anelka was a panic signing during January ( same can be said about that defender we signed ), due to the ANC and injury to Sheva. In my memory, Grant only played 442 when we were chasing games, so whats the point to buy a striker when there are already 3 strikers there fighting for 1 spot? I like to see him get a chance if we are going to play 442 next season, but I wont be missing anything if he goes.

Lofty
I can't say I ever had any strong feelings either way towards Anelka, but I did think that he would turn out to be a good signing for us. Obviously this hasn't been the case as yet. It doesn't look like he'll be going anywhere in a hurry, so hopefully next season we'll get to see the best of him.
