I genuinely believe we will hold on to fourth, maybe even sneak up on the rails of Spuds and nick third ::ChELSeAFaN:: But the title is a pipe dream ??

As long as it's mathematically possible, I'll keep a bit of hope we can hit a run of form and end the year as champions! It's going to be extremely hard for us now though.

The highest we can get mathematically is 89 points. So at the very most we can only afford to drop 9 points realistically, if we are going to be anywhere near. The way we're playing it would have to be one hell of a turnaround...

I would be more confident if we were consistent and able to put the teams away that on paper should be 3 points, ala, Wigan, Fulham, Villa etc these are the dropped points that have damaged our title hopes, unless the other teams above us go into the tank I just can't see this group of players being able to do it....still we have about 10 days to to buy one or two players that might help the cause but it will still be a tough uphill battle....I think the board gave AVB a top four finish as his one and only target this year and we just might be able to do that providing both Arsenal and Liverpool continue to fail..

I think sooner or later we are going to put up a good run and our rivals are going to falter. The only problem is we have more than one rivals to catch up this season and all of them faltering simultaneously is probabilistically a black swan event.

We had to overtake 4 last season. We took down 3, then that United game happened.

Theoretically we are not out of the title race but the head says yes we are, tbh thought we would struggle this year as the bringing in a new coach and a large nucleus of players that IMO are not good enough was always going to make it difficult for the title win.
If we can see the dead wood away and some new fresh talent in (hopefully this transfer window but not looking like it) then i'll be happy with a Champions league slot.
Blank canvas for next year with players present and new that the coach believes are good enough for his team not the debris and fallout from the previous managers failings to move them on.

Of course there were 4 teams ahead of us at this time last season but realistically there was only one team that was ever going to win the title, United, and we had to fight just them. This season there are at least three who could win it, maybe more.
