Who is the better full back?

It is an ongoing debate so lets put it to a vote. Try and vote on this purely on ability and not on any personal feelings about Cole. Also vote purely on them being a left back and try and not go down the route of 'Bridge could be a good left sided midfielder' as Chelsea are clearly not going to play him there.

I know it isn't really as simple as that because you can argue that Bridge is better suted to some games than others (and likewise Cole) but just for the sake of discussion vote on which of the two you would take as your left back if that vote meant he was to be left back for every game we played irrespective of opposition.

Tough one, on current form it's Bridge, but overall defending I'd go for Cole, just by an edge.

There is room for both to play together going by what I seen of Malouda so far, Bridge could play ahead of Cole.

Bridge offers more when going forward and as I think they're pretty even when it comes to defending, I think Bridge is the better player.

I would vote Bridge every time icon_wink.gif

I don't feel Cashley gives us anything more than Bridge offers, although it's good having the pair to keep the squad strength in times when one's missing.

That said, I have no time for Cashley & if left tomorrow, I wouldn't shed a tear...

A very difficult choice. Cole is a better defender, I'm sure of that. Bridge is much better going forward. I'd obviously try to keep hold of both and play them as appropriate. All round though I would say Bridge is better. His attacking skills are much better than Cole whilst his defending is only a little behind Cole.

Can't vote in this one because I really can't split them. I've tried but I don't believe you could fit a rizla paper between the two in terms of overall ability, and I've said this from the day we brought Cashley.

As such, we never needed to buy Cashley.

Bridge everytime. And the fact that Cole is a total tosspot can't be discounted as it effects the overall karma of the team.

As defenders they both have significant flaws, Bridge's positioning and Cole's ridiculous tackling especially, but Cole, really, offers nothing going forward. If I could only choose from these two I'd go for Bridge.

Both are annoyingly one footed but I would go for Cole as he is better defensively and thats the most important issue for a defender obviously, plus whenever Bridge goes forward its always head down and run which is quite frustrating.

not much in it on ability but on form Bridge at the moment looks better,

I also think Bridge seems to put more heart into his performances for us and feel he looves the club,

I always feel Ash does well against Ronaldo and would play him against UTD though.

if one had to go, I would rather keep Wayne.

I voted bridge, but let me explain:

it's only because he's better.

he was better when cash was still at arsenal, and he remains better now. right now, and 8:06, he's better.

tomorrow, he'll be better, and in 2 years he'll be better.

I know Loz said "don't say horses for courses" but I am going to completely disregard what he said and say "horses for courses". I think both have a role at Chelsea.

By the way, I voted Ashley Cole, not because I think his better, but because I think everyone else is going to vote Bridge and I think the gap won't be reflective of the the difference in quality between the two.

I agree with just - there's really not that much between them.

I think that Cole cops a lot of unwarranted flak as he is ex-Arsenal, is a bit of a w***ker off field, and a lot of Chelsea fans rightly or wrongly feel that his controversial transfer was damaged our reputation and/or overly strengthened the Arse.

However, in an ideal world, he should be judged on his on-field performances only - which in truth have been good, but not great.

But, the same can be said for Bridge. I think that Bridge plays really well and an overlapping, crossing fullback supporting the attack. However, he always looks a bit shaky in defence - dare I say it, shakier than Cole (who can rely on his pace to get him out of trouble).

In reality, there is plenty of room in the squad for two quality left-backs when we have to play 50+ games in a season - especially as both players have had injury problems over the last few years, and there has been several times when neither of them have been available.
