Signing Conte with no CL football makes no difference. Chelsea is a big club, won plenty of trophies and in London. Not many managers would refuse the job and wages of Chelsea. If Chelsea was going to sell Hazard or Costa who could afford them. Real, Barca and PSG for Hazard, Real and Barca wouldn't buy him till they sell someone. Costa only wants to go to Madrid and Chelsea said no. One season without CL football don't make that much difference to players who are established, big wages etc. Chelsea beat West Ham and Palace to Michy. There not in the CL. It's a great signing and I want him in the first team but CL football made no difference there. CL football doesn't seem to matter as much with West Ham and Palace bidding big amounts, Liverpool too. Chelsea make plenty out of the loan deals and Financial Fair play has seem to of been relaxed. City spend way more than they should be. Chelsea signed the best PL player last year, great signing and will be superb. But how wanted are just rumours. Its clear Chelsea have needed defenders since last summer. Terry, Cahill and Ivanovic all in 30's. Dave always plays out of position and Zouma is injured and let's all hope he comes back the same player and better. Regarding defenders Chelsea should of had there targets sorted earlier, made there enquirys and if there's no agreement then move on. Don't let it rumble on for months till the last week then panic buy where clubs can put stupid money on a player. If you can't get your targets early then don't panic buy anyone who isn't going to improve the squad, if you know your targets are not coming then you can just look to improve the squad for the year. Then try again next transfer window. You have made CL football much more important than it really is, like it's an excuse.

I saw a totally different Luiz who was Chelsea's weakest link, where the opposition would know this and target him. Defensively he is poor. Offensively brilliant. In a 3 man defence it might work. Terry at 35 is still better than Luiz.

Still doesn't make sense. There's a complete difference between Terry and Luiz. Club legend who has given his body for the club. compared to Luiz who makes many mistakes over season.

That's if your football fan for one season. That doesn't make sense. Everyone knows JT is the best premier league defender ever. at the same time everyone knows Luiz can't defend for sh*t and the money Chelsea got for him had every Chelsea fan laughing. He might be a better defender now and more mature but that can't be judged in a French league which is won by Christmas.

Good post Sydney, what I found interesting was Mersons review of the game last Saturday. He said any team in the world would bring Fabregas on as one of your 3 subs. He also said the game was made for him to come on for. He gave his opinion that Fabregas would be leaving as others did on the show. My personal opinion is there is enough defence minded players to cover fabregas. It's like watching Ozil at Arsenal, very similar players and Fab can play Cam. Kante, Matic and Willian can easily cover Fabregas and with a new fullback and hopefully Dave at RB I think that makes the defence stronger. i know it's two years ago but was it against Burnley when Fabregas played that pass. His the only player in Chelseas squad capable of that and that was a stand up and applaud pass.

I just don't think you need 3 defensive minded midfielders who run a lot. Chelsea can easily have Matic and Kante sitting with Fabregas ahead. I know who I would rather have to break down a team. Burnley is one thing, the big teams are another. Chelsea won't have enough creativity in the majority of matches relying on just Hazard. Once Oscar went off against West Ham and Watford, Chelsea went on to win.

That's what I mean, I'm not really bothered how much Chelsea spend on a LB as long his a first team starter and Dave starts RB. I have been wanting natural fullbacks for years who can cross. Ivanovic is only good as a squad player now. Even when Ivanovic was playing well and scoring goals his crossing was still dreadful and frustrating, I wanted Luis playing then knowing Ivanovic was near the end of his career but Mourinho hardly changed the team. im not saying his a bad player or a bad signing, I just would be fed up of signing a 20m plus player to sit on the bench.

I would blame Pellegrini more for Toure than anything. He kept playing him in a midfield 2 when it was clear he don't like running or any defensive duties. Play him behind the forward and his lethal with two CMs behind. Abit like Fabregas. Real Madrid have 3 luxury players up front. You can even include Modric and Kroos isn't exactly bad. Barca have the 3 up front and then Iniesta. Arsenal play Carzola in a midfield 2. Now I don't think his any better than Fabregas in that position. Point is with Matic and Kante who is a beast and does the running of 2 you can easily accommodate Fabregas in your starting line up if you really wanted too.

So that's how we define a luxury player? One that doesn't run? Fabregas does actually run and covers defensively, just because he isn't an expert at is doesn't suddenly make him a poor player. Even Mikel isn't an expert at it and he never gets out of jog mode. City has Sterling, KDB, Silva and Nolito all going forward yesterday with just Fernandinho sitting.

Who knows? Luis is much better than Alonso and he sat on the bench. Also cost less.

Problem is 24-28m for a player who might end like Luis and warming the bench just to strengthen the squad is not great. It's not being negative but it's true. Luis left a year later. if his going to be a first team starter then it might end up great business. by the way I see 12m for a 32 yr old Williams as great business.

I prefer Bertrand
