I tend to agree with Just on this but would add that Essien may well have made the list, had he not lost his touch of late, probably due to niggling injuries. I can think of few who can match his drive and power when he's firing on all cylinders.

Good point mate! Roma missed that sitter near the end with the defence all at sea. It should've been 1-1. They were really hanging on. What gets me is the Sky commentary. Tevez blasted a chance two yards wide (about all he did do in an attacking sense) and it was, "Oh yes! This is what he's all about, the sheer power etc etc". Sheva does exactly the same and he's a has-been. The same with Rooney. Okay, he took his chance well by hitting the shot early but anybody would think he's done a George Weah, run the length of the pitch and buried it, such was the gushing praise. He hits a lame shot along the ground from 18 yards and it was, "Ooh! He's getting in the mood, coming more into the game now." The guy is hugely overrated.

I think Cole may just have the edge defensively plus he's always had a handy knack for making last-ditch clearances off the line for his clubs and England. Clearly JM shackled him going forward and of course he has as much to offer as Bridge in that department. Don't forget he started his career as a striker and was converted to full-back (which may mean he was a cr*p striker but surely had more than the average defender's flair going forward). I think the only area where Bridge wins hands down is in his crossing ability, which is exceptional. He also has a better understanding with his team-mates.

No way Gullit has the required experience and standing to lead a top club that we have become since he left to major trophies. Forget about past managers or former players, just because they were popular at the time. We need a proven club manager with an adaptable ego. I know it's not feasible, Valerie. It's just that Gullit plays the sort of football I love. Allow me my fantasy!

Star, you talk a lot of sense. To be honest I've never been a huge Lamps fan but I have to eat my words and agree that we're a shadow of ourselves without his goal threat and passing. It was my hope that Mikel would step into his shoes and run the show but it was obviously asking too much of one so young and inexperienced. Essien, too, isn't a playmaker as such. He's sometimes like a ram-raider who goes charging into the fray, without looking to see where he's going, and smashing into a lingerie shop, when he intended to grab a flat-screen TV from Comet! (then looking suitably embarrassed) We look predictable and show poor movement off the ball, and certainly need the spark and goal threat that someone like Sinclair might provide. A young, fresh Sidwell is meant to be a box-to-box player but he ended up doing impressions of the Ray Wilkins crab. He played in fear, probably because Jose terrified him into acting like a programmed automaton..."Keep possession at all costs, even if that means passing the ball back 80 yards to your keeper". I'm grateful for the two titles and happy for this to be a season of rebuilding, as long as promising fringe players get blooded and we start to play a bit.

I take it you have never torn your thigh. I have and it's bloody agony! Took me 6 weeks before I could get into any kind of training again and that was with loads of physio, ultrasound treatment and drugs (although obviously I didn't have a team of elite physios giving me round-the-clock massage).
