I think you are letting your vendetta against the ownership blind your judgement Scott, this was 100% down to the poor management at Monaco who thought they could juggle the two deals.
City didn't play anybody, they had no idea Monaco would make such a hash of it. In fact WE played City, they paid well over the odds for Enzo and even had to add a few million to get a player nobody else wanted, including us. It's not as if they poached our best player, he was a very expensive ok midfielder, Rogers will more than make up for him.
We will survive easily until January with what we've got, and with the improvements we have already got I think we will be more competitive and certainly more enjoyable to watch than the last few seasons, and come January we will get who we want.

As some in here have said before, this board does like to gaslight the fans with good options that end up not being true. Watch them saying “we tried Alonso but he wanted Liverpool, so here’s Silva”.

When you think about it, this has to be the worst permanent appointment this club has ever made, right? The first manager I remember us having was Gullit and this is the worst in that time. Not just because of results because we've had people like AVB, Scolari or even Potter but they at least had some pedigree behind them where at the time we understood why they were appointed. Rosenior wasn't wanted by any of the fans, he had no managerial accomplishments to warrant the appointment, he's annoyed everyone with his LinkedIn spiel and on top of all of that the results have been terrible. If you could find the embodiment of everything that is wrong with the ownership it's Liam Rosenior. Just a BlueCo stooge who got the job because they wanted a puppet.
Nothing against him personally, he might be a nice guy but quite frankly I couldn't care less. Just get out of the club and take the board with you.

Given how little experience he'd had as a manager and the flaws of the squad he was given I thought Enzo did OK. Two trophies in his fist season and qualified for the CL.
This season though we looked worse and difficult to say if he would have been able to fix things if he stayed. Again, Marseca made his share of mistakes, but I genuinely believe no manager will be able to do significantly better with this assortment of players and the clowns in charge of this circus. We all knew the squad needs strengthening in key areas, instead they've just replaced average players with other average players. I just want his detractors to remember that when another manager comes in and has to deal with the same problems and struggle to resolve them. I think many will finally realize that you can only polish the turd so much until you realize it's never going to turn into a candy.
The whole thing is just a shocking example of gross incompetence and lack of accountability from the hierarchy.

After 29 games last season we had 48 points compared to Maresca's whopping 49 points this season.

So yes, that means the season was a lot harder last season. United, City, and Tottenham have absolutely blown it this season, and it's a perfect chance to get in the top 4 but we can't get out sh*t together.
And the football was 10x better despite the injury crises. I don't even know how you can sit here and defend Maresca, talk about how the players are sh*t, the injuries etc. When last season you were saying the total opposite when it came to Pochettino.

Jorgensen is not much of an improvement on Sanchez unfortunately. Any chance we can recall Kepa? 

And how many were chuffed we signed Cole Palmer on deadline day. Not many actually. A second choice player at City being a cut above the rest at Chelsea is only a stark reminder how poor our signings have been. 
And 115m for 45 games of Caicedo in the PL was quite the "proven" signing. The only highlight of Enzo's career here is the price tag we bought him for. We've spent almost a billion euros and you seem to count that as a massive success instead of looking at the quality of most of our signings. We need better players to compete at the very top. 
And weren't we in for Gvardiol last season and Isak and Olise this season ? Going hard for the quality players is just for show now. I'll be surprised if we end up signing the said "one of the best players in Serie A last season". We only sign those who fit into our "wage structure". 
The ridiculous thing about your reply is the way you turned this into more of a personal attack without even actually mentioning the 3 signings I mentioned in my post. We've signed plenty of "promising" young players. What will take us to the next level now are experienced quality players, not more young inexperienced players.

I genuinely want to get on the Maresca love boat and sail serenely into Portofino harbour with our multitude of Italian friends on here but, still early days and too many questions for me. 
1. Sanchez. And yet you want us to knock the ball about at the back?
2. What is a Mudryk? What does a Mudryk do? Why is a Mudryk on the pitch? Why is a Mudryk even on the bench.
3. Jackson over N'kunku everytime. Really? Please explain. One is a stone cold killer the other is Jackson.
4. Set piece defending. Can you make us much, much, much better. You've had a bit of time to work on it. Can do better.
5. Don't isolate players who are genuine assets like Chilwell and Carney. Bin players who aren't like....... Mudryk.
TBH I am partially there. Sarriball MK II was my worst nightmare and he certainly isn't that but still, for me lots of room for improvement.
 

I was/am certainly one of the doubters.
It's been much better than I expected so far, in particular we've been far more entertaining and not as stifled as I expected after having seen Leicester last season. The setup has been varied and he's shown himself to be adaptable, which was a huge problem for his Leicester side. He appears to be building on the work Pochettino did rather than sacrificing any progress to impose his own ideas. We're scoring goals and the players seem happy; we're not getting leaks about turmoil behind the scenes (apart from the owners briefing against each other I suppose). He's also happy to rotate and we haven't [yet] been seeing the deluge of muscle injuries which we've had since Lampard's first stint.
I would however express cautious optimism:
- We've had a fairly kind run of fixtures to start the season (Man City aside). If we consider Man City, Arsenal and Liverpool to be the likely top three, our rivals for fourth (I would count Villa, Tottenham, Man Utd, Newcastle) have all had harder games.
- Other than against West Ham and a dismal Wolves side we haven't really played that well. I think we have benefitted from structural issues in our opponents (although Maresca of course deserves credit for recognising and setting us up in a way to exploit that).
- Our defence (including the goalkeeper) has looked suspect in a way that better teams will exploit.
- The way he licks his lips before answering an interview question makes me think he's a bit demented.
 
That said, we are the top scorers in the league and two points off top which is a better position than I thought we'd be in after six games. I didn't think we'd be close to top four but we are currently in the running. Onwards and upwards!

It's quite clear that the owners are not stacking up the GK position to strengthen the first team. If it were then there was a much simpler way to go about it. We're stockpiling decent options in the hope that 2-3 of these become good and can be flipped for 40+ mill in the next couple of seasons. For the first team they are quite happy to have below average GKs who can do a job. It's evident that the aim for the owners is not to challenge for the league or the CL. For them it's about top 4 and the revenue that comes with it and the side business of trying to book profit by selling players. It's like they are trying to build 2 streams of income, i.e., money from the first team  and money from the sale of all the obscure signings who will likely never play for the club. 

He is better that Mudryk. That’s for sure. Problem is we still have Mudryk. 

Ofcourse. We panic and throw insane money at this like we did for Enzo Fernandez. All Napoli has to do is stand firm on their valuation. Egghead and co. will eventually panic and pay way over the top.

It takes a monumental effort to spend over a billion pounds in two years and still rely on Nico Jackson as your first choice striker. The worst part is that they've spent an insane amount of money on the players we absolutely have no use for.

I think the difference is Liverpool have identified a new young goal keeper with great potential and experience to replace Allison in a similar way to how we had Courtois ready to replace Cech.  Whereas our plan is to buy 9 goal keepers with little experience or completely average in quality in the hope one will magically turn out great.  With a high probability that we will end up buying another keeper next summer.
