The Moos
Last thing I heard was that the first medical tests showed that Cole has an injury that might mean that he's out for the season. Apparently they'll make another medical exam on friday (not sure if it's today or next week, but I guess the latter). In other words, it looks like our only good winger is gone for a long time. If this doesn't make the club/Roman open their wallet to get another player nothing will.

Chippy
Cole blow for club and country as Lampard blasts Chelsea crybabies By NEIL ASHTON Last updated at 12:05 PM on 16th January 2009 Comments (8) Add to My Stories Joe Cole fears the knee injury he suffered at Southend could rule him out for two months and force him to miss vital club and international fixtures. The midfielder limped off after his knee buckled in Chelsea’s 4-1 FA Cup replay win at Roots Hall on Wednesday and had a scan at the club’s training ground yesterday. He is definitely out of tomorrow’s Barclays Premier League visit of Stoke and will have a further scan today if the swelling has subsided. The fear is that he sustained ligament damage, which would rule him out of the key Liverpool trip a fortnight on Sunday and make him a serious doubt for both legs of Chelsea’s Champions League clash with Juventus on February 25 and March 10, as well as England’s friendly in Spain on February 11. Lofty
Doesn't sound good at all. And still not even a hint of a new signing in the current transfer window.
Chippy
Doesn't sound good at all. And still not even a hint of a new signing in the current transfer window. When Joe pulled up it looked nasty and a little part of me thought it might actually have a positive effect by being the push Roman needed to bring someone in..still time but it is looking a unlikely. mad_mac
I know that we are not a one trick pony, but I really think the loss of Joey, and no imminent replcaement in our team or being rumoured to be coming in....I think we will struggle. Looke like it will be Kalou and Malouda out wide, or Deco in behind the front two! Not the best, but our only options?
evissy
If Cole indeed is out as long as two months and we still have no intention to look for new players(wingers) I would think Roman is looking to make some arrangement to leave the club. Otherwise it just would be stupid.
ethicalstrategy
Or it could be a chance to find out whether Sinclair, Stoch and Kakuta (or Kaku, as he should be known ;) ) are up to the job.
Ruh Buh Juh
With Joey Cole potentially out for the season, and no buy's looking to come in, how's about a loan of someone? Or bring up Stoch/Kakuta? Edited January 17, 2009 by Ruh Buh Juh
WoodmanBlue
i am with the stoch and kakuta option, let the youngsters have a chance
evissy
i am with the stoch and kakuta option, let the youngsters have a chance Me too but I just see Scolari using 'his brazilians' in odd positions before he considers those youngster. I hope I'm wrong.
PloKoon13
i am with the stoch and kakuta option, let the youngsters have a chance This seems blindingly obvious... but Scolari would still sooner play Belletti or Deco there...
kalpitv
Indeed, both of them are in the squad for today's game and Scolari did suggest that he intends to use them. Positive signs but i dont see this happening as stoke is no cakewalk and Scolari hardly uses his youth for more than 10 mins.

Nibs
This is terrible news. I know I'm biased but with no Joe, I really can't see us opening teams up. That's pretty much how it seems as I write this and we're 0-1 down to mighty Stoke. I fear our season is crumbling before our eyes.
Chippy
To be fair Kalou done more today than Joe has for a while and Stoch looks like he's at the right level to slot in (on that short showing) we might be ok.
Nibs
Yeah - IF we do start playing the likes of Stoch, Kaku and Di Santo then there is hope. But all the time we rely on the likes of Ballack & insist on playing with a defensive midfielder, then we've got no chance. But right now, I'm over the moon Brian!! (But still gutted for Joey) Edited January 17, 2009 by Nibs

(But still gutted for Joey) Agreed Nibs, I've said almost as many times as you on here that I wouldn't play a DM against side that are gonna have a main gameplan of containing us...I certainly wouldn't play one and Ballack. at least Stoch has given us a viable option and proved he's that even in that short time. they played like a proper group today and like the Southend game it's almost a good thing they went behind from that point of view. and as you say gutted for Joey. I agree to, i remember Grant playing SWP as central mid with two wingers, someone like him and Kalou is what we need in these kind of games. scottish_blue
Lets be honest, its a massive blow to lose joe. Such an important player, make things tick on the wings. However, this is the time for the bench warmers to prove they deserve to wear the blue....
