Liam Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 I don't think the sending off changed anything. We were always going to concede it was just a matter of time. Cech 4 - I think we've just sold our best keeper. The problems we have at the moment definitely start here. When he was the best keeper in the world he had immense presence. He's totally lost that now. Flap, flap, flap. The opposition believe they can score against him and his defenders have lost all faith in him. Sad, as he was brilliant and seems like a top guy. Cole 5 - As looked ok most of the season but contributed nothing today apart from their second goal. Alex 8 - MOM (for us) The closest thing to Paul McGrath I've ever seen. For those of you don't know much about Big Paul he played like Alex did today every single game. Terry 6 - Sorry John you're my favourite ever Chelsea player but I think you should get back to playing and forget about the cameras. Bosingwa 4 - All four points for THAT kick. Hilarious. Ballack 3 - You big fairy. Get off your f**king toes. Looks as if your sole concern is avoiding anyone damaging your little pinky winkies. Lampard 7 - At least he tried to do the things we know he's good at. Mikel 4 - Has started the last 21 PL games apparently. Here's a question for his legion of fans - Would he start in any of our 3 main rivals' teams? I'll answer it for you. Would he f**k. Kalou 7 - Limited as he is he had a go. Malouda 2 - What is he for? Anelka 3 - If I had to pick someone to go into battle for me I'd pick John Inman ahead of our little French fancy. Scolari 3 - C'mon Phil. Put your arm around Drogba and tell him he's a great player. Then pick him every week. It's our only chance of a top four finish.
Ruh Buh Juh Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 Cech - 6 - Made some important saves from long range efforts. A. Cole - 6 - one of the better players on the field Alex - 8 - MOTM performance. Terry - 5 - below par. Bosingwa - 5 - I actually thought he played well until the kick. Ballack - 4 - worst performance in a Chelsea shirt. Mikel - 6 - Average. Lampard - 7 - played well until the disgrace. Kalou - 7 - played well Anelka - 4 - very poor. Malouda - 3 - worst player on the field.
bjd Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 Agree with everything youve said there Liam, apart from Boswinga who id rather not comment on tbh.
Chippy Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 Agree with most of Liams post except..flappy though he has become, for me Cech is still a better keep than Carlo Anelka and inman (see that John Inman, You lost a fight to him) Newman and Baddiel, or Liam to Anelka :D
blizeH Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 Agree with most of the above too, sorry, but Cech has completely lost it lately.
ethicalstrategy Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 Carlo has never been as good as Cech. I see his current uncertainty as more a function of the disorganised defence in front of him rather than the other way round. Not helped by the personnel changing from week to week.
Guest Sindre Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 Mikel 4 - Has started the last 21 PL games apparently. Here's a question for his legion of fans - Would he start in any of our 3 main rivals' teams? I'll answer it for you. Would he f**k. Oh my God! Thats probably the biggest piece of bullsh*t i have ever seen on this site. Mikel has been one of our players this season, and was our best midfielder by a country mile today. And would he start in Arsenal, Liverpool or Manchester United? Of course he would. Do you really not think that he would take Denilsons place at Arsenal? Mascheranos place at Liverpool? Bollocks!
PloKoon13 Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 I disagree with the comments on Cech. I still rate him as one of the best keepers in the league, if not the world. Was it not just a couple of weeks ago that Cech put in a superhuman performance to keep us in it against Everton? I don't think there's been a great deal Cech could have done about the goals we've conceded lately (especially since three-quarters of them have been from corners ¬___¬), and we can't exactly blame him for losing confidence considering how shocking our defensive performances have been lately. He's still my no.1, and he's been amongst our best players this season, imo.
blizeH Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 His positioning was all over the shop for the first goal, so I'd argue he cost us a point today. His confidence looks completely shot too in the past two seasons or so.
icecoolguy22 Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Bit of an over reaction about Cech, without him we would have lost the game long before the 89th minute. He is not at his best, but still better than Carlo, who is a great shoot stopper, but has little command of the 6 yard box. That is the main reason he hasnt played for ages, without slopping marking, we need the Big GK to come out and take the aerial ball, something Carlo not fond of. We just dont have the quality players like we used to have, and we have a clueless manager .
Mr Chelsea Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 malouda gets a score of 2 and 3, surley the zer0 button on your keyboards are broken he has got to be the most useless lazy inept footballer that has ever played football in this country

Personally, I think he should get rid of the hat. I'm sure he's been told to were it but I think it is a psychological symbol and he'd play better without it.
sexelk Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 cech - 7 had a very good game up until the 1st goal. terrible positioning bosingwa - 5 wasn't awful, wasan't good cole - 4 was ok but that 2nd goal... terry - 6 looked plainly average as he has done all season alex - 8 easily the best chelsea player lampard - 6 never settled mikel - 7 was steady as usual ballack - 0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 worst player in premiership. confirmed by that performance malouda 0 - 2nd worst player in premiership. confirmed by that performance. so lazy anelka - 5 did chase but had nothing to work with kalou - 7 only player willing to take someone on and have a go seriously ballack makes me cry

Mikel as a holding midfielder is not in Mascherano's league I am afraid to say. He is adding very little to our team at the moment. If we still had a stronger squad he would not get in the side. That said, he'd still be ahead of Ballack & Malouda. Edited February 2, 2009 by Nibs

bjd Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 some more ratings from football365. normally a site i despise (written by idiots , for idiots) but i think they are on the money here. Petr CechNot one of the ten or so saves Cech made over the ninety minutes was either difficult or convincing and he was found badly out of position for Torres' game-changing header. Simply not the goalkeeper he was - and he hasn't been ever since he made his return at Anfield in January 2007 after having his skull fractured. Rating: Three. Jose Bosingwa A three-match ban is inevitable for his ridiculous assault on Yossi Benayoun in the final minute. Outrage and incredulity should be shared equally between his 'tackle' and the match officials' inability to spot it. Incredible. Rating: Three. Alex Courtesy of a series of goal-saving blocks, Alex was destined for the man-of-the-match award until Torres beat him to Aurelio's cross. Alex should not berate himself unduly, however. The Spaniard's run was the act of a master poacher and no other player in blue did more than Alex to keep the Londoners in the game. Rating: Seven. John Terry Perhaps he ought not to have permitted to Torres run past him unchecked but, like Alex, Terry had hitherto not made a notable mistake over the previous 85 minutes. Put bluntly, the centre of Chelsea's defence was the least of their considerable inadequacies on Sunday. Rating: Six. Ashley Cole Having a reasonable match until his last-minute aberration. At least it wasn't a game-losing mistake like the one committed by his rival Wayne Bridge at Stoke. Remains the best English left-back in the league. Rating: Six. John Obi Mikel Given that his function is to protect and simplify, the number of passes that Mikel made which were either misplaced or placed a team-mate in danger was shocking. It's tempting to describe the youngster as the greatest footballing fraud since Gilberto Silva. Tempting and probably correct. Rating: Three. Michael Ballack How can there be talk of a new contract when Ballack's displays, especially on high-profile occasions, are so dismal? Lacking authority and energy, the German's non-performance at Anfield would be a talking point if only it wasn't what we have come to expect. Rating: Three. Frank Lampard The most energetic Chelsea performer until he was dismissed. And with him went any chance of the Blues actually offering a goalscoring threat. Rating: Six. Florent Malouda Dreadful. Again. Is Scolari willing yet to retract his claim in the summer that Malouda was wasted last season because he was played out of position? Selecting the Frenchman for a match of such importance was a terrible error by the Chelsea manager. Rating: Three. Salomon Kalou Kalou is a back-up player. He is not a first-choice pick in a side that can win the title. Andy Gray remarked in commentary that "one of Kalou's problems is that he is hit and miss." Correction: that is Kalou's problem. Rating: Three. Nicolas Anelka Starved of support and service, Anelka's presence on the pitch barely registered. The suspicion is that the sledgehammer approach of Didier Drogba may have been better suited to the game but, such was the negativity of Chelsea's approach game, it is doubtful that it would have made much of a difference. Rating: Three.
blizeH Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Is he the same keeper as he was three or four years ago? Definitely not. BUT to say his confidence is shot is nonsense.Personally, I think he should get rid of the hat. I'm sure he's been told to were it but I think it is a psychological symbol and he'd play better without it. I don't think it's nonsense at all. A fractured skull and, a few months later, a completely split open jaw/mouth will do that to you.
just Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Bit of an over reaction about Cech, without him we would have lost the game long before the 89th minute. He may not have the same consistency he had before the fractured skull, but there are still very few keepers I'd have in front of Cech. And as for the Tottenham keeper, he has never been in the same class as Cech.
Nibs Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Blimey. Every comment for every player there is pretty much spot on.

Surely no prize in football is worthy if his life can be threatened.
coco Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 C'mon Phil. Put your arm around Drogba and tell him he's a great player. Then pick him every week. It's our only chance of a top four finish. Then we are truely f**ked ! Did you forget to rate Drogba ?
Guest Sindre Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 No the biggest piece of bullsit i have ever seen on this site is someone saying Mikel would take Mascheranos place at Liverpool. Mascherano has been utterly crap for Liverpool this season and Mikel would have no problems with pushing him out of Liverpools team. I actually i did not vote for Mikel in the MOTM thread Nibs :D
Liam Posted February 2, 2009 Author Posted February 2, 2009 John Obi MikelGiven that his function is to protect and simplify, the number of passes that Mikel made which were either misplaced or placed a team-mate in danger was shocking. It's tempting to describe the youngster as the greatest footballing fraud since Gilberto Silva. Tempting and probably correct. Rating: Three. I am afraid this is how the outside world views our languid Nigerian. A bit harsh I feel but nonetheless streets away from how he is perceived on here. I don't visit any other Chelsea sites but perhaps someone could enlighten me as to whether he is revered like he is on here. For me it is quite simple - he does not impose himself on matches, rarely influences the outcome of a match and since he has come to the club he has played about 3 matches where I felt he was worthy of his place in a team with pretensions to winning trophies. Then we are truely f**ked ! Did you forget to rate Drogba ? He wasn't worthy of a rating Coco. Does 0 count as a rating? My point is that he needs to feel the team is built around him and that he is the first name on the sheet. Rather like Mourinho treated him. He's not getting those messages at the moment. He hasn't become a bad player overnight and when he is on his his game he is unplayable. I think we need that Drogba back and I think that is a challange for the management.
Guest Sindre Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 (edited) Mikel is leading to vote for player of the year on the norwegian Chelsea-site... In my opinion probably the best holding midfielder in the premiership. Already forgotten his brilliant match against Boro last week? Edited February 2, 2009 by Sindre
Nibs Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Mikel is leading to vote for player of the year on the norwegian Chelsea-site...In my opinion probably the best holding midfielder in the premiership. Already forgotten his brilliant match against Boro last week? What was there for him to do against Boro, who offered nothing in the way of any attacking threat? He was okay, but frankly I could have played against Boro in that role and looked "brilliant"!
