Posted March 31, 200916 yr http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/t...ted/7975700.stm We have them at the weekend at St James' Park... I think we can bank on not winning that one...
March 31, 200916 yr I don't think it is an April's Fool for 3 reasons: 1. It isn't April Fool's Day yet 2. It is being widely reported 3. Newcastle are a dumb enough club for it to be true. So taking point 3 on. There is a certain humour to the fact that Newcastle fans now have unequivocal evidence that Mike Ashley hasn't a bloody clue what he is doing however they can't use it against him as he is doing the very thing they have been desperate for him to do. Newcastle are in the bottom three of the table with 8 games to go and they appoint a man with no experience, with a brain the size of a two bob bit and with the charisma of Ned Flanders. If they get away with it and stay up then it is safe to say God does exist and he fancies Jackie Milburn.

Mmm, he's being unveiled tomorrow though, and it's from a high-up source in the club who might have been looking for a few hyucks. I still think that 'new manager' syndrome, and especially someone as emotionally attached to the club as Shearer (even if he is a cretin) might push them over the edge against us. Whether he keeps them up, however...
March 31, 200916 yr OK the fact that the unveiling is tomorrow could mean it is an elaborate prank but if it is then it is ill conceived. The Geordie fans are desperate for a bit of joy and if Mike Ashley thinks this is a giggle then he better be damn sure his home address is a well kept secret!!

I was talking to my friend who supports Newcastle, and he said that if it turns out to be a hoax on April 1st, Mike Ashley shouldn't expect to wake up on April 2nd.

April 1, 200916 yr Wow. I guess its been coming since the day he retired. Funny that it was reported so late in the day, though. Loz's assessment is pretty close to reality. On its face, a move like this is total lunacy. But if he can keep them up, the following might go from merely god-like to positively Keegan-esque. Ashley has done what they all wanted him to do. Does he still take the fall if they wind up going down? This is really a no win situation for him, but I guess his ownership of the club has been a no-win since King Kev walked out on them. And what if Shearer does manage to keep them up? The Geordies will never allow him to be replaced in the summer, no matter who is available. Anyone fancy a bid for Gutierrez if they go down?
April 1, 200916 yr Could someone remind me what we have against Shearer ? Always seemed a top player and a top professional to me.
April 1, 200916 yr a man with no experience, with a brain the size of a two bob bit and with the charisma of Ned Flanders. If they get away with it and stay up then it is safe to say God does exist and he fancies Jackie Milburn. haha :D Anyone fancy a bid for Gutierrez if they go down? gutierrez is f*cking awful. he just hits the ball and runs quickly after it. no skill, no vision and definitely no end product
April 1, 200916 yr ah come on, that's harsh. He's not CFC quality, but he is a good player, who has shown a great attitude and willingness to get stuck in, mixed with a good engine and some decent skills. How about if we swapped him for Ballack, would you like that? (joke!)

(joke!) perhaps a bit harsh but other than his pace he is a very average footballer. His pace is the only thing keeps him from being Championship quality Newcastle will be hoping to come straight back up from the Championship next season. They'll need better players than Ballack if they want to acheive it
April 1, 200916 yr Author How about a bid for Martins? He's very quick, still young and left-footed. That is if Newcastle haven't completely destroyed him...
April 1, 200916 yr How about a bid for Martins? He's very quick, still young and left-footed. That is if Newcastle haven't completely destroyed him... Babayaro say's he is like 30, played in the same youth team as him he does look closer to 30 than 23 (or whatever he is pretending to be )
April 1, 200916 yr Babayaro say's he is like 30, played in the same youth team as himhe does look closer to 30 than 23 (or whatever he is pretending to be ) Ashley should never have sacked Allerdyce. It's OK for the geordie legends returning, but it's never in the best interests of the club, only for the gratification of their deluded supporters. I think this is Keegan mark II

(joke!) i agree, i actually thnik hes a pretty decent player. puts in more effort than our current left winger. mind you, so does my 75 year old gran, and shes bed ridden.
April 1, 200916 yr Newcastle fans are like the majority of X factor entrants. They think that just because 'they want it so bad' and they're 'so passionate' about it then they deserve success. This is irrespective of factors such as 'having any talent', 'patience', 'hard work', 'having a plan' and 'vision'. The appointment of Shearer is on the face of it yet another stupid attempt by the NUFC board to keep on the right side of their fans, possibly the most inept bunch of supporters on God's earth. It is only marginally more intelligent than bringing Keegan back (another crowd-pleasing move) or Joe Kinnear. But not by much. I feel for Shearer because he has been a great professional and undoubtably does love the Toon. Unfortunately, he'll probably get about 3 matches before they start calling for his head. What Geordies should do is look back over the last 40 years and ask themselves what, taking into account different owners, managers and players etc, is the only common factor in such a massive lack of achievement. The answer is, of course, the fans themselves and their city. They seep failure from every pore and pass on a total lack of success genetically from generation to generation. Their streets and buildings are built on foundations of never getting anywhere whatsoever and their lives can be measured by a succession of disapointments interspersed here and there with little pockets of unfounded optimism. God bless them.
April 1, 200916 yr looks like wisey will be on his way now for sure...it was never going to work for him there...a very strange move...still easy money for him!
April 1, 200916 yr It's OK for the geordie legends returning, but it's never in the best interests of the club, only for the gratification of their deluded supporters. This is exactly why I'm bewildered by some supporters' desire to have someone like Zola returning as manager. Only if he has proved himself as as manager, got more than just a couple of years experience, then it would make sense to consider him. Managers should be selected on their track record, not on their status as playing legends.
April 1, 200916 yr He is in a no lose situation reeally, keep them up and he is a hero, take them down then it wasnt his fault, and I agree with all the comments about Newcastle fans. But.......... I think this is great for English football, another potential young English manager, ex-England captain, whether you love or loath him, he was excellent in interview (I mean really good, not so sure about his pundit role) and was a superb player. I like it, you could argue we should brinning young English managers throught he ranks, which is fair enough, but I certainly welcome more coming in to managerial roles, it can only be good for the future.
April 1, 200916 yr is he even qualified? http://www.thedailymash.co.uk/sport/sport-...s-200904011677/
April 1, 200916 yr I was half joking about Gutierrez, but I too think he is a good overall player. Certainly better than your giving him, sexelk. And if nothing else, then his penchant for running Man Utd ragged is worth the bid :D Bluenut is right. They werent very good under Allardyce, but to pull the trigger that quickly was not smart. I always thought Hitzfeld wouldve been a great appointment at Newcastle, but by getting King Kev he got himself into a world of trouble. Say its the dream scenario for Geordies, and Shearer coming keeps them up after some inspirational wins. Does that mean all is forgiven regarding Ashley?
April 1, 200916 yr currently newcastle are managed by chris hughton who has proved (many times) he is out of his depth and the fans are on his and the players backs. appointing shearer in the short term is not a bad move at first glance, because instantly the support will be there, and patience will be there, so whether he proves at all capable or not doesn't matter as it will be an improvement on hughton. from shearer's point of view he isn't tied down, if he fails then he can lay the blame on the people that managed before him, players he didn't buy etc. the only way this could be a bad thing is if the lift that the fans give is enough for newcastle to stay up, and the resulting clamour means shearer takes the job full time. there is a lot of debt there, his best player will leave for nothing in the summer... difficult to see how a good manager could build that club to match the ambition of the fans. and even if they stay up it is unlikely to be conclusive whether shearer is good or not, so next season, once the buzz has gone and he has to rely on his skills as a manager rather than his presence, he may have a hard time. edit: sorry, I forgot to do a rubbish joke: "I think it's great that more young managers are deciding to start from the championship and work their way up the ladder."
