Ancelotti - 'No More Signings'

Chelsea coach Carlo Ancelotti says he will not make any more new signings - and insists Deco and Ricardo Carvalho will not be sold to Inter Milan.

Former Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho wants both midfielder Deco and defender Carvalho but has been frustrated in his attempts to recruit the Portuguese duo.

Ancelotti said: "I don't want to take any more new players because the Chelsea squad is very competitive. Now we stay with the players I've got. I don't expect to make any more signings before the window shuts."

"I don't want to sell Carvalho and Deco. They are both important players."

Ancelotti was speaking ahead of Sunday's Community Shield clash with Premier League champions Manchester United at Wembley.

Mourinho wants both 31-year-olds, who played for him in Porto's Champions League triumph against Monaco in 2004, but claimed Chelsea were making it more difficult because he was involved.

Deco fell from favour after arriving at Chelsea in an £8m move from Barcelona in the summer of 2008 - and recently admitted he hoped to be reunited with Mourinho in Italy.

And Carvalho, a success at Stamford Bridge but restricted by injury to only 18 appearances last season, revealed recently that he wanted to leave Chelsea after four years.

Not sure what to make of it. Do you believe him ? Not sure if i do actually...

I have a feeling that he's more comfortable with the quality of squad than he first imagined.

After being knocked back by Pirlo, he's probably happy to get the best out of the likes of Deco, Mikel, and Joe Cole in central positions.

i look at this in two ways...on one hand, if that is it for the summer, we are clearly not going to be held to ransom even if they are a top player, which is a good thing...in the early years of roman we paid over the odds for so-so players...eg swp and got ripped off...cos of city and madrid, prices have gone silly again so the kind of player that will truly improve the squad ie ribery and villa are £40m plus...

however, it means that our ageing squad is ageing some more with little young talent to give it fresh impetus...therefore the rebuilding job is going to be even more expensive, or harder to do in future...I think we still have a good squad, but we offer very few surprises, apart from what ideas Ancelotti comes up with...the change in formation might work, but scolari changed tactics a little last year, but had nothing else once teams figured it out...we still miss that world class flair, that bit of magic on the wings or up front...the good thing is united, liverpool and arse have gone backwards so far in terms of their summer activity

not a bad thing, get rid of either pizz or shev and then just focus on training, fitness and tactics. This is the last year we are on to win the prem with this current squad, next year some players will be too old to mount a title charge. This is the year......i got a good feeling!

Agree with that Brit and think our signings are over as well. I mean Athletico will probably hold out for say 50 or even 60 for Aguero won't they & I can't see Roman paying that amount for him atm. I think we've done reasonably well relative to the other three & given what amounts City and Real have been spending.

I'm not convinced. Firstly this is what Pat Nevin has to say on the Official Site:

There may well be the need for a couple more signings before the transfer deadline because of the number of trophies the club will be aiming for this season. By Sunday evening I suspect Ancelotti may know precisely what he needs and by then he might also have won the first trophy of his tenure in his first game. If not then what he will have learned will be just as precious.

And secondly there is also no mention of Ancellotti declaring that there will be no more signings on the Official Site. He does say he doesn't want Carvalho or Deco to leave though:

We never talked to sell Carvalho and Deco. They are important players for Chelsea, because Carvalho is a very intelligent defender, and Deco has great quality that we need. They stay in Chelsea for this season,' he confirmed.

'We don't have this idea to sell players. If one player is not happy to stay with us he has to say, but now at the moment nobody asked to

im a bit perplexed by this. ive now read 3 different versions of this interview and only one of them has CA stating we wont be buying anymore. the other two dont even mention it. could this be our beloved media pissing around again?

Im taking it with a pinch of salt.

I mean, how many times have we heard managers, everywhere deny any knowledge of transfers only for a player to turn up a week later. Fergie did it only the other week. Mourinho lied about transfers every time, every time!

The club could well be playing it very cool, after all lets hope they have learned from the Robinho fiasco last year. Perhaps they dont want to put anything in jeopardy. Maybe...

Yes, I do hope we buy someone , but i wont be devastated if we dont - we still have a very strong squad - though as had already been said we really do need a player with that 'little extra' and we have done for some time now , since Robben left actually, just for those tight games.

But we have to be sensible and in that respect if it is going to be a 'marquee player' (oh how Buck must be regretting that) if you look at the market out there then it has to be Ribery or Aguero. Or if you work for The Daily Mail, both.

To be honest i cant see either of them coming and i certainly wouldn't want us to spunk 50 million on either or them.

BJD - where did your original quote come from?

Its everywhere mate. Look on newsnow. Got that from the BBC though.

EDIT - just checked the BBC site and they have removed the 'I don't expect to make any more signings before the window shuts' part. Its still on other sites though. 365 for example.

All very strange.

SSN stated that we wouldnt be making any new signings before the new season starts , doesnt say anything about the 2 weeks after till the window closes. I'd think we are now clearly holding our cards to our chest for if any potential signings become available....maybe Ath Madrid crash out of the champions league or the anticipated fire sale at Real Madrid if neither materialise so be it, we have a squad strong enough to compete but one that will need a great deal of money spending on it in the future.

This is what it actually says on the BBC, under a headline of Ancelotti says no more signings there's an actual quote:

Ancelotti said: "I don't want to take any more new players because the Chelsea squad is very competitive.

"I don't want to ..." doesn't exactly equate to "there will no more...". Wait and see,

The thing is, their players will be cup tied so thats no good to us. If we are going to sign Ageuro it will need to be before a week on Tuesday.

I agree that if we are not going to spend now, in a few years time megabucks is going to be needed to be spent if the plan is to be competitive at the very highest level for the foreseeable future.

Cant really look to youth can we ? We are always having players bigged up. But then they pretty much all go out on loan and that's their lot. Lets hope FDS and Stoch buck that trend, but im not hedging my bets.

I still reckon we are going to sign a "biggish" player.

I think we need to buy 1 big name as last few transfer seasons we havent really got that big name player.

Or like said aove in one of the posts, maybe summer signing is over because of inflated prices and then we will get someone in Jan.

Put me down as thinking this is a smokescreen.

I dont want to drag up gold ghosts of the past, but IMO the two things we were hurting for last year was a real, dynamic forward to rely on and a winger who could push malouda for a starting place on the left. Zhirkov fills the second one, but we missed out on Robinho, and I think a player like that would take us a long, long way.

But I dont think Roman is eager to spend another 40m+, or whatever amount it will take, to land that big fish. At this point, Aguero is the name on everyones lips, and according to Athletico even 50 wouldnt get him.

He said the above in a press conference, which was shown on Chelsea tv this evening. He was asked a question about further signings and gave a stock reply about being happy with the playeres he had blah blah blah.

My interpretation was that he was pushed into saying that, not wanting to unsettle the current squad, nor wanting to look like a twat if we subsequently fail to sign anyone.

So don't take it too literally is my view.

Come in Aguero!!

Could he be trying reverse psychology on AC Milan. They state Pirlo is staying to try and get us to up our offer. Carlo retaliates by saying "that's it, business all done" AC Milan go "oh sh*t we've f**ked that one. Better go grovelling back to them so we can offload Pirlo after all"
